Take out the unnecessary fanservice and you got yourself a great anime
12 November 2011
Wow, this was a fun series. This is why I like comics such as Blackest Night and movies such as Shaun of the Dead(I know it's a spoof, but still)they leave you on the edge of your seat, but your having a fun time. The characters are well developed. My favorite characters have to be Takashi, Rei, and Kohta. My least favorite characters has to be Saya and Shizuka. Saya seems like a spoiled brat, but over time she developeds and I start to like her a little more, but Shizuka comes off as the stereotypical blonde who is dumb and is just their for hert looks. (I don't know how she became a nurse in the first place) Some complaints I have with the series is some things that we never get to know. Like will they get to see their parents alive, did Saya's parents make it out alive, what caused this zombie outbreak, etc. And don't get me started on the fanservice. Dear God, sometimes the fanservice just got in the way of the story. Like if something bad happen, the mood would be ruined by pointless. Really, you have a good story, why use fanservice? From some sources I heard that the artists draws hentai, so I shouldn't be surprised. Overall this would've been great, if only it had more episodes and NOT A lot OF FANSERVICE!! As I said in my review on Ikki Tosen I don't mind fanservice as long as its not in your face and doesn't get in the way of the story.

Batman: Year One (2011 Video)

Mainly focuses on Gordan than Batman
12 November 2011
Now I'll be honest I didn't read Frank Miller's Batman: Year One. So I really wish I read the comic before I saw the movie, but then again I did it with All-Star Superman and I liked it. Overall this one pretty god. The animation is good, the story is great. Not to sound like a Bat-fanboy( I'm more of a Green Lantern one), but why does this focus more on Lt. Gordan than Batman? Someone tell me, does the comic also focuses on Gordan than Batman? And Catwoman really was just there. I mean she really didn't serve any purpose in the film. Is she also in the Year One comic as well? Overall its not as great Under the Red Hood, but it is a good story and I do admit I did like Gordan, and what he was going through. Overall, if your a die hard Batman fan who really wants to see Batman this really isn't for you.

Yeah...this doesn't hold out
10 November 2011
Hey, remember when you were a kid and you liked something, but as you got older you realized its not as great as you remember? Well this is the situation with me. Wow, this really bad. That's all I gotta say. I mean except for Storm Shadow, all the villains were just silly especially Cobra Commander. Yes, even more ridiculous than the 80s cartoon version. The Joes were okay, except for Beachhead. I mean my God he was horrible. In the original cartoon, Beachhead was a tough as nails soldier who was angered very easily, this version sounds like some surfer dude. Overall what can I say that no one else said. Its just bad a bad incarnation of GI JOE.

Marmaduke (2010)
Someone put this dog to sleep
19 October 2011
I really didn't want to watch this movie, but my little sister forced me to watch, and we agreed that if 30 minutes into this movie it sucks then I can leave. As you expect I left at the 30 minute mark. Wow, this movie was just awful. How can you take a comic strip like Marmaduke and turn it into this piece of crap!? Really Hollywood? Were you this desperate? You mix the whole outsider teenage movie with a talking animal movie, both that been done to death. Add a many pop culture references and unlikeable characters? I mean why Marmaduke? A newspaper comic strip with one panel where it's just a great dane who just does stupid things, but in a cute in funny way. This is neither funny or cute. Its a piece of dog crap. (Pund intended) And I'm from Pennyslvania so this is also insults our state dog.

One of the most overrated of the Godzilla franchise
29 August 2011
I'm sorry, but people give this film to much credit. While its not the best or the worst, its okay. For me I don't see why. For me this is another way for Japan of saying we are still angry about World War II since the Americans are bad actors and seem stupid (The reference to Steven Spielberg and Terminator was just pointless) And the aliens from the future are Caucasian who want to destroy Japan. And I've seen both the English and Japanese versions and the English version is just bad.

Now despite my complaints I have good things to say about the movie. Such as the fight scenes between Godzilla vs King Ghidorah are just awesome. But to be honest I like the original King Ghidorah better than the Heisei version. And the music is just great. I know in all my reviews of Japanese monster movies I always compliment Akira Ifukube for his music and here its great as ever. I actually like Mecha-King Ghidorah in this. It was awesome and it did something new with King Ghidorah. Overall this movie wasn't bad, but I think this movie is overrated with Godzilla fans.

It grows on you and its for kids
18 August 2011
You know when I first saw this show, I thought it sucked. I thought Marvel jumped the shark again. But as time went by I started to like it and I realize its for kids. When I see a kid getting into comics thanks to the cartoons, it puts a smile on my face, hoping I see new comic book readers and its great that kids can recognize these characters. Heck, my four year old nephew and his cousin love the show so much. I love that they actually use underrated characters like Falcon,Silver Surfer, and Ms.Marvel as main characters in the show, but to be honest its not as great as Batman: Brave and the Bold, while being campy and aiming toward kids, it actually does the comics justice, this really doesen't. But I don't mind.

Overall it may not be for you, but it's for kids and you know this was used to market the toyline. So yeah you may not like this show because fart and booger jokes, but hey this came out when I was kid I would've loved it.

Varan (1958)

I realize why Varan isn't that popular among kaiju fans
15 August 2011
Before I saw this movie, I was very interested in Varan. The monster seemed kinda cool and I realized he wasn't that popular among monster fans and I wondered why Toho didn't used him more. After watching the movie I see why. This movie was just boring, I mean the characters were just shallow, and it really didn't do much for me. This is really not one of Ishiro Honda's best films, however its not his worst. But as I said its just boring. Other than gliding, Varan isn't really an interesting monster and I wished they used him more in other Toho films, but I see why they didn't. The only good thing is that Akira Ifukube once again is great as the composer. The music in this is great and the music was actually used in future Godzilla films. Overall while I think the monster shouldn't been forgotten, this movie is very forgettable.

A great telling of the Green Lantern Corps
14 August 2011
I love the Green Lantern Corps. When I read the comics I see a great space adventure, that get me excited although they need to get better artist for the books. This does a great job doing that. It explains the Green Lantern Corps history. We see the six different Lantern's stories to the audience and to one of my favorite Green Lantern, Arisia Rrab. While I think this could've been a sequel to Green Lantern: First Flight, it works well as it's own film. The animation is great and like I said I do like the stories. This was very great, and I hope to see more Green Lantern animated movies. In fact this was actually better than the live action Green Lantern movie. But I must say, although I disagree with DC editor Dan Didio, but I agree with him on how the Sinestro Corps War should get it's own movie and I agree.

The reason why I love Captain America
14 August 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Next to Spider-Man, Captain America is my favorite character in Marvel comics. At fist I had low expectations, but I was shocked. This movie reminded me on why I love Captain America so much. The character is as iconic as Superman. Someone you can look up to. He was once the little guy, now being the big guy standing up for the little guy. He's willing to sacrifice his life in order to save millions and that is why I love Captain America.

This movie did a great job of development Steve Rogers. At first I was suspicious about Bucky and Cap being childhood friends since Bucky was between 16-19 in the comics, but here it works because when he falls of the train and we assume he's dead, you feel Steve's pain. Hayley Atwell is great as Peggy Carter. We see that she is willing to fight and can kick some butt. Tommy Lee Jones is hilarious as Col. Phillips. I'm glad they added the Howling Commandos, they were just awesome. Hugo Weaving did a great job as Red Skull and didn't tell much about his origin. I know some people complain about that, but remember the Joker from the Dark Knight when they didn't tell much about his origin and made him more interesting.

Overall this was a great movie. This beats the 1990 film by a longshot and I cannot wait for the Avengers movie. In closing this review here's the Captain America theme song.

"When Captain America throws his mighty shield. Let all those who choose to oppose his shield must yield. If he's led to a fight and duel is due then the red and the white and the blue will come true. When Captain America throws might shield"!!

Awesome!
5 August 2011
I love Plastic Man. He's a fun superhero. And when I saw this TV pilot, I began to love the character even more. What I heard Johnny Test was chosen over this. I really wish cartoon network would choose this instead of Johnny Test because this was just awesome! Plastic Man can be interesting concept for a cartoon. And his rouges gallery isn't not well known, both to the general public and comic book fans so you can just make one up. Overall this was great. This was very funny and I couldn't stop laughing until the end. I really wish this became a series, because this could've put Plastic Man into the general public and made a popular superhero like Superman and Batman. Tom Kenny is amazing as Plastic Man it's a good thing they kept him in Batman: Brave and the bold.

One of the greatest crossovers ever.
5 August 2011
As a kid I always wondered what it would be like if there was a fight between Godzilla and King Kong. After watching this I got my answer. This was very fun. Now to be honest, unlike most people in the US I saw the Japanese version and I never saw the English version yet. But after hearing about the English version I'm glad I saw the Japanese version first. I love the comedy in this film from both the monsters and humans. Ichiro Arishima is hilarious as the television boss. The fight between Kong and Godzilla on Mt. Fuji was great. It was both funny and amazing. The music done by Akira Ifukube was awesome as usually. Now this film needs to be remade. It's going to be King Kong vs Godzilla's 50th anniversary and it's ashame that won't ever happen.

Adventure time!
5 August 2011
At first I thought this show was going to suck and when I saw the first episode I thought it did. But I gave the show another chance and I began to like it and now its one of my favorite shows. The show is very creative and funny. I really like the friendship between Finn and Jake. Thy have funny characters such as Lumpy Space Princess and the Ice King. I know a lot of people who like this show from little kids to adults. Heck on Sunday dinners my family watch the show together.\ Like I said I thought this show sucked at first, and you might've thought the same thing, but you may lighten up to the show and like it as well. Overall this a very fun show and I hope it goes on.

The true TMNT cartoon
3 August 2011
I love the teenage mutant ninja turtles. This is the cartoon that got me into the turtles. Now before we start I like the 1987 version of the turtles. They were a lot of fun especially in Season 1,2,3,6, and 7. But it seems outdated by today's standards. Now this series is based off the Mirage comics and does them justice. Most of the episodes are based stories from the comics and also show characters from them as well, while adding some new characters. While this show is based off the Mirage comics, the show has things from the 1987 cartoon such as the multi color headbands.

While the fans of the 1987 cartoon say that this show is not like the 1987 cartoon. I got news for them. It's not suppose to. I say the same thing to the fans of Batman: the Animated Series. It's suppose to be different. Imagine if every cartoon remake had the same formula as the original. It would be boring. And you couldn't tell the difference. Now on to the review. The show has good character development, stories and animation. I would say this is the best TMNT cartoon to date.

In Search of Steve Ditko (2007 TV Movie)
8/10
Inspiration for future comic book artist.
1 August 2011
I am a big Steve Ditko fan. I love his work. I was first introduced to Steve Ditko's work when the Philadelphia Inquirer gave out old Spider-man comics. Along with Spider-man, I love most of his creation. I love the Question, I love the Creeper,I love Dr. Strange and I love Hawk and Dove. I think that this documentary was very interesting. While they tried to interview Ditko, we learn that he tends to cut himself from the outside world. Doesn't do interviews and is rarely seen. Which is really sad, because it would be nice to hear his side on Spider-man's creation and at times it sounds like he can be a jerk. One of my major complaints is that they did not mention Captain Atom and Blue Beetle II. Those were major Steve Ditko characters and like the Question was the inspiration to Rorschach. Captain Atom and Blue Beetle II were inspirations to other Watchmen characters like Dr. Manhattan and Nite Owl II. Overall this is a pretty good documentary and I would recommend it to both comic book and non comic book fans.

Focuses more on fanservice than story.
31 July 2011
Alright I'm gonna say this, but this show is not that good. The story is just stupid and it keeps showing us unnecessary fanservice. You can't go five minutes without seeing breast bouncing or panty shots. It gets annoying. As for the story in the kanto region of Japan seven high schools are fighting for territory. Each school carries a jewel called the magatama which contains the essence of the Three Kingdoms to decide the schools fate. I'll let you decide how stupid that plot is. The characters are unlikable and while the animation is great, it's wasted by drawing fanservice. Now maybe this is not for me. For me I don't mind fanservice as long it's not in your face and it doesn't get in the way of the story. But if your into fanservice in anime instead of story I guess I can recommend this to you.

Dragon Ball (1995–2003)
10/10
A fun series
29 July 2011
Now I am a big fan of the Dragon Ball series. Like most people in North America I saw Dragon Ball Z first, however Dragon Ball is actually a little better than Dragon Ball Z.This is a modern adaptation of Journey to the West. Now I like DBZ, but Dragon Ball have very fun stories that we barely saw in Dragon Ball. While DBZ was more action, Dragon Ball was more about the comedy. Like in DBZ you saw a lot of violent scenes, with Dragon Ball they were more perverted. Now this is a classic in anime history such as Astro Boy or Robotech. I love this series, it has fun stories and characters. Now the review I've posted may sound like I don't like DBZ, but I love DBZ. It's what got me into Dragon Ball. Overall this is an awesome series and it should be remastered like Dragon Ball Z Kai.

This show shoud've stayed on the air.
28 July 2011
I actually liked the show before it got canceled. I thought it was funny and I my friends at school thought it was funny as well. It's directed by the guy who does super jail. So if you like super jail then you might've liked this show. Pretty much this show was insane. You couldn't go one minute without a robot either burning, melting, or shredding. I hate to be Bender if he visited that place. From what I heard it had low foreign appeal and they had a short budget so they had to cancel. Which is ashame because this show had potential and I would've love to see more. I would've loved to see more adventures with Thrasher and Blastus as they try to survive Insanus, but oh well. Despite being 10 episodes it was a pretty good show.

Sergeant Keroro (2004–2011)

Kero,Kero,Kero
26 July 2011
In sixth grade I was a big anime fan, but I grew out of it and moved back to comic books. While I'm slowly regaining my interest in anime again, while balancing my love for American comics, I go for the not-so well know franchises. Either they are underrated or they do have a big fan base, but not as big as the heavy hitters such as Naruto or Bleach. And I'll be reviewing Sgt.Frog. Now I love both the anime and the manga although I think the manga is superior then again that's me.

Me personally my favorite two characters have to be Dororo and Koyuki. They are fun, interesting, and they are freakin ninjas! I love the other characters such as Angol Mois, Kululu, Tamama, Momoka, and many more. I think one of the strongest points that this show has is its pop culture references. Yes I am a sucker for pop culture references, if they are done right. And this show is spot on with it. They made fun of DBZ, Gundams, Street Fighter, and many more. You have to see it to understand it. I really can't much in words. All have to say is you might like it and I actually recommend the English dub.

G.I. Joe: The Movie (1987 Video)
6/10
Cobra lalalalalalalala
25 July 2011
Like Transformers G1 I never grew up with the classic GI JOE series, luckily my uncle who grew up with the series introduced me to the classic GI JOE episodes. After watching all the GI JOE episodes online(season 1 was better) I decided to check out the movie they had. While not as great as the Transformers movie this was pretty good. I can't say much but this mainly could've been one of the five-pat mini series that the show would usually do. I mean other than the opening theme, they use music from the show and the animation is pretty much the same as the show. Nothing wrong with that, but look at the Transformers movie it had better animation, a great soundtrack and to be honest better characters.

I feel sorry for Cobra Commander in this film. I just do. He's been the great leader of COBRA, now reduced to a slithering snake. I really didn't like the idea of Cobra-La and Cobra Commander and Serpentor's origin. The leader of Cobra-La implanted the idea to Dr. Mindbender? In the show they made pretty clear that they wanted a new leader to lead COBRA all because Cobra Commander was doing a bad job. It just doesn't make any sense. While a lot of people may think that Lt. Falcon was like Hot Rod from the Transformers movie, but I see no resemblance other than the fact they're young. Hot Rod was young, but also kind, energetic, and grew into the role of leader.

Lt. Falcon was suppose to be like that after Duke, supposedly died, but the idea was scrapped because of the death of Optimus Prime in the Transformers movie. So instead have Falcon as a bit of a jerk. I just realized I have more complaints than positive things to say. I do like the action, but it's pretty much the same action we see in the show, It's good to see characters from the show, like Roadblock, Beachhead and Sgt. Slaughter. And I do love Serpentor's famous "COBRA LALALALALALALA"!! Overall this movie could've been a regular episode of GI JOE

The movie that got me hooked on transformers franchise
25 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Now I'm a third generation transformers fan. So I grew up with the Unicron trilogy and the live action movies. After my disappointment of Revenge of the Fallen, my uncle who grew up with the original series showed me the Transformers movie of his generation. And all I have to say after watching it was "wow". This movie got me back into Transformers and I it made me stayed attached to the entire franchise. This movie is awesome! The action is awesome, the character are awesome, and the music is awesome! Vince DiCola who also did the music for Rocky IV, does a wonderful job with the music in this movie. While some the songs such as Dare and Dare to be stupid may sound outdated now, but for me it works well in this movie and it still works well for this generation.

My only complaint is that they had to kill off characters that a lot people loved which was the biggest fault in season 3, bur I still love Season 3 of transformers G1. Anyway the scene I love the most is with the decepticons when they are trying to decide who should be leader, when Megatron turns into Galvatron, and Starscream's coronation. Orson Welles a great job with Unicron, however many sources say he didn't care about the part, which is sad because this was his last role and he should've seen his performance. The saddest scene has to be when Optimus Prime dies, bu I must say there should've been more autobots in the room who were in season 1 and 2 or maybe they died as well in the battle of autobot city. Well I pretty much said a lot of things about this movie and I really wish a lot live action movie adaptations would do this. Make it a cartoon instead of live action, but add your own stories.

Green Lantern (2011)
7/10
Why the hate?
22 July 2011
Now I am a big Green Lantern fan. And I actually had low expectations to this film. When I saw reviews for this my expectations were lowered and when I finally saw the film, I liked it. It's not as great as the Dark Knight, but it doesn't have to be. It's WAY better than other DC live action movies such as, Jonah Hex,Steel,The Spirit,Superman IV, and Catwoman. Despite me liking it, I still have some problems with the film.

One of my problems being Parallax as the main villain, both we his design and him being in the movie in general. Parallax is a bug-like entity in the comics that possess people when they become afraid. Here it's done, but I think it was done to early and Hector Hammond shouldn't have been the one. And why is Parallax attacking Earth instead of the entire universe? Second I have the same problem with this movie as I do with the first transformers movie and that is too much humans, not enough aliens. One of the reasons why I love the Green Lantern comics is because I love seeing the aliens in the Green Lantern Corps. They are very impressive to see in the movie and I wished they focused more on Hal Jordan adapting into the Corps. Speaking of which while I admit I kinda liked Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, I still think he was miscast.

Reynolds fits more for Guy Gardner than Hal Jordan. Blake Lively while hot she really didn't have anything to contribute as Carol Ferris and I wish they might've developed her character maybe if they make a sequel she'll become Star Sapphire. Now I really wished that Sinestro would be the main villain. Mark Strong gave an awesome performance and it would've been the next Heath Ledger's Joker if they gave him more screen time. I really wished that they show Sinestro's fall from grace. Where he becomes a renegade Green Lantern and tries to take over the universe and the final battle would be Sinestro vs Hal.

Now for the good parts. The special effects are awesome! And as I said earlier the aliens look impressive and I wish they spent more time on Oa than Earth. Tomar-re,Kilowog,Abin Sur and Sinestro all their actors do a wonderful job and I know I keep repeating myself, but I really wish they had more screen time. I actually thought the comedy was pretty good. And I did like the final battle between Hal and Parallax. Overall despite my complaints this is a very fun movie. It has good action and I actually got into the story. I don't know why critics hate this movie. I'm guessing because of Thor they were expecting more. Still if your a fan of comics I say check it out.

The show that got me into comics
18 July 2011
This is the first superhero cartoon I ever watched and I will always remember it. As I mentioned in my Justice League review when I was a kid I was into superheroes. This is what got me into. This was the reason I am a comic book fan. It introduced me not just to Spider-man,Mary Jane, Aunt May and other characters, but it introduced me to Spider-Man's rogues gallery. Villains such as Doc Ock,Mysterio,Shocker,Rhino, and the Green Goblin would be part of my childhood. When my friends and I would play Spider-man I would always be the villains and since no one else wanted to be the villain I had to pretend I was all of them and it was fun! The show also did a good job of introducing other superheroes like Blade,Dr.Strange, and the Punisher. Overall this is a classic. Even though I was only a baby when show was still going on, I saw re runs of the show which was a big impact on my childhood. And made me into the person and I am to say. All I have to say is with power comes great responsibility.

I'm glad I'm a fan of DC comics
14 July 2011
I am a big fan of DC comics. I love their characters. I love Superman, Batman,Wonder Woman,Green Lantern, etc. Now as a comic book fan, I am pleased with this and I can show this to people who are not comic book fans. I'm surrounded by people who are not comic book fans, who think Marvel is better than DC. Which pisses me off to no end. I'm not dissing Marvel, I just hate how the general public thinks of it.

With this we get the history of DC comics. Where it started with one title to franchises. We get to see how Superman and Batman became part of the pop culture. We see how comics evolved. We get to see how comic books came into other media such as movies and cartoons. I know a lot people have this complaint, but they skip over major events such Crisis on Infinite Earths and Zero Hour and the New Teen Titans comics were also a big part of DC comics history since it was one of the most popular comics of the 1980s.

Overall some things are not mentioned, but then again most comic book documentaries are like that. I could show this to people who aren't comic book fans or Marvel fanboys, is that without DC comics, we wouldn't have the first Superman movie, we wouldn't have Christopher Nolan's Batman films and without DC we wouldn't have companies such as Marvel,Image,Darkhorse and many more.

Henry's Amazing Animals (1996–2000)
9/10
I used to love this show and I still love it!
14 July 2011
When I was a kid, along with superheroes I was very interested in animals. One day at my local library, I saw this video about Henry's Amazing Animals. From then on I fell in love with the show. I watched not all, but most of the episodes. The relationship between Henry and the Narrator was very good and funny at times especially Henry's reports. Another of my favorite were the cartoons that they showed for only a few seconds. Seeing it again just brought back a lot of Nostalgia, and made me want to go back to that time to my childhood. Problem is for some reason it's very rare on the internet and it's not on DVD yet which is a shame. I pray that this will get a DVD release so I can re watch all the episodes.

Justice League (2001–2004)
9/10
I am happy I was around when this show came out
4 July 2011
As a five year old kid, I was just getting into superheroes.DC Cartoons such as Baman: the Animated series, Superman, and Batman Beyond, and a few episodes of the Super Friends were a big part of my childhood, but the one that would be remembered the most is the Justice League cartoon. What can I say about this series? It got me into the DC universe. Characters such as Green Lantern, the Flash and Martian Manhunter would go on to be my favorite in the mainstream DC comics and introduced me to characters who made guest appearances such as Metamorpho, the Green Lantern Corps, and the Amazons.

Even for a kid, I could understand the plots and were very smart. My favorite episode actually has to be "Legends" when they go to a parallel Earth which has the Justice Guild of America, no doubt a homage to the Golden Age Justice Society of America. I have plenty of more episodes I like, but they would take up most of this review.

Now here's the part about JLU. To be honest I lost interest maybe because there was too many characters, not enough didn't get any development. Now looking at it in a more mature view, while some of the characters didn't get enough development, it did help me get into superheroes like Green Arrow and the Question.

I really love Season 2 of JLU which just kept me at the edge of my seat and made me wanting to see more of it. Overall JL/JLU are great cartoons, they were dark, fun, and amusing at times. All I can say is that I am happy I was around the shows came out and I wish I could go back in time as a kid.
