Cold Mountain (2003)
Stayed in my mind for days after.
Cold Mountain is truely haunting. The acting is impeccable. Renee Zellweger was unexplainably brilliant as Ruby Thewes. She completely stole the show as the loud and seemingly emotionless drifter. Nicole, as always, was brilliant, but I couldnt help but feel that Renee totally overpowered her.
The film was extraordinary with a great script. I was reduced to tears on more than one occasion, the film moved me immensley. From each heart breaking letter that Ada (Nicole Kidman) sent to Inman (Jude Law) to each step Inman took to get home to his love. The ending wasn't 'typical Hollywood' and was one of the most powerful ending's I have seen in a film for a long time.
I would highly reccomend this film to every one who has ever been love and every one who wants to know just how important family and friends are. This film will be one that lingers in my mind for years to come.
Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001)
Beautiful.
Extremely touching. Amelie tells the story of a girl who lives in Paris, she decides to make people's lives better and happier after discovering a box left by a little boy in the 1940's in her room.
The story is incredible and beautifully acted. The plot is incredibly romantic and elegant. Amelie's decision to put happiness into other's lives is inspiring, especially because of the way she does it. I thouroughly enjoyed this film and it left a lingering and inspirational message in my mind.
Sophie's Choice (1982)
Haunting
Wow! I am still in absolute shock from this film. Meryl Streep delivers a magnificent performance, with a flawless Polish accent. Kevin Kline and Peter Macnichol are terrific and together the three of them make a highly enjoyable film. The 'choice' Sophie has to make is shattering, a beautifully acted and unforgettable scene. Meryl Streep won the best actress Oscar for her portrayal of the nazi camp survivor, this was richly deserved. The film was incredible with a great score and many moving emotional scenes. The emotions of the characthers, especially Sophie, are incredibly beliveable and bought to life. All 3 of the main performances are haunting and memorable. A must see.
Highly reccomended. 10/10
Jeepers Creepers 2 (2003)
So bad, it was funny.
For starters this had absolutely no plot, i just didnt understand the point of it at all. I found myself laughing more than feeling scared, my friends and me thought it was hilarious. The dialogue was corny and the scenes were so repetitive. I also found it was on too long and because there was no characther development, i didnt care if the characthers were eaten/killed. Overall i was very dissapointed, though i thought the first one was okay and i expected more from the second, it just didnt deliver. See it if you like stupid, pointless and un-scary movies. 0/10
Shrek (2001)
Simply Marvellous!
Ohmigod! Shrek is amazing! I am not usually a big fan of films like this but i thought Shrek was superb. The animation was excellent-opening up a new generation of dazzling special effects. The film was light, funny and a great remake of a classic cinderella type story. One of the best animated feature films ever made! 10/10
Adaptation. (2002)
Amazing!
Adaptation is a fantastic movie that had me gripped from beginning to end. Meryl Streep is as ever brilliant and Nicholas Cage and Chris Cooper are superb. The film is funny, interesting, unusual and great all at once. Definatly one of the best films of 2002 and in my top ten for sure.
Death Becomes Her (1992)
Absolutely Fantastico!
I saw this film when i was about 9, since then i have been hooked on it! Its hilarious and cool. Meryl Streep, is superb and funny and knows how to light up the screen. This is definatly one of my favourite films of all time and very good if you want a laugh. Death Becomes Her has great special effects and is an excellent 'black comedy'.
The Deer Hunter (1978)
Powerful, Moving, Well-Acted, but too long
I am 14 and decided to watch The Deer Hunter about a week ago, mainly because i think Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro are great, but also because of all the hype built up around it. The Wedding scene was far too long, and it took a while to get to the point but when it did, boy was it powerful! It was very dramatic and the superb acting from Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken made me feel like i was there. Meryl Streep was amazing in the small role she had, but i do feel that Robert De Niro deserved an Oscar for his role. The film overall was very moving and strong but just far too long. 8/10
