Grown Ups (I) (2010)

Disappointing
17 July 2011
I absolutely love a lot of the actors/actresses in this movie so I originally was very excited to see it. I mean, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, Maya Rudolph, Steve Buscemi?? Sounds like comic gold! Nay. There was no plot & the one liners were just constant and 99.8% completely unfunny (we get it, you like to razz each other). It was almost like some of the actors even forgot how to act for this movie! I laughed a few times but pretty much spent the entire feeling like this level of comedy was insulting my intelligence. I expected more.

My kids though did think the movie was amazing so if you are between the ages of 6-14, you might enjoy this.

Not for everyone but not bad

I am a mother of a young daughter so naturally, this movie was a big deal. Because I knew that young girls love to scream when they get together, we did not go and see it in the theatre... I could only imagine the insanity. At home we watched the movie and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I do find it a rather inspiring story about a little boy who dreamt a big dream and actually had the drive to accomplish it.

Here's my beef: The reviews of other viewers. Here's some of the most common complaints about the movie:

1.) He's overly confident

  • Yup, he is sometimes but stop and be honest for a minute. If you were the hottest thing and making millions while you sleep, wouldn't it get to your head a bit? I mean, come on.

2.)He's not talented

  • He made it big via youtube. Obviously there was something there otherwise he would've just been like the millions of other people on youtube that live forever in obscurity.

3.) His music sucks

  • He is a tween/teen pop singer. If you don't like that style of music, you probably won't like this movie. You also wouldn't have like a movie about N'sync 10 years ago either.

Bottomline, this movie is not for everyone. I thought it wasn't too bad. It's important to remember several things: He's just a kid; He's a popstar; this is a music documentary which are traditional not that good and shallow. Don't try to read to deep into this movie and accept it for what it is & you might enjoy it
