Terminator Genisys (2015)
Awesome movie!
WELL! WHO better to ruin John Connor than Who himself? And what a sinister plot- a Kamikaze terminator! Some have stated that killing Kyle and Sarah automatically deletes John Connor but that's the whole idea-kill three birds with one stone.
The first thing I noticed about this movie was how it related well to the first two, whilst introducing a timeline change that branched off in another direction AND it didn't take itself too seriously, which is where 3 and 4 fell down. The humour and anecdotes stirred a chuckle in me while the action and FX just entertained. Speaking of FX, it was like watching a James Cameron original with today's technology injected into the formula along with a seamless digital recreation of the young Arnie T800's face. Who needs REAL actors anyway, when you have THAT level of sophistication and detail? Ohhh Did I say that? woops.
I fully applaud Alan Taylor's work here along with the script writers and all involved. WELL DONE!
The Philadelphia Experiment (2012)
A fine piece of utter crap
This is up there with the BEST of them. The best of CRAP that is...it looks like it was written by a 13 year old schoolboy and the editing isn't much better. The actors involved in this must've been damned hard up for cash because their talents are totally wasted on this poor excuse for entertainment.
I'm not going to spoil it because there is nothing to spoil. The studio did a fine job of that all by themselves.
Just don't waste your time. Watch a soapie or go out and hire an old 50's scifi. I'm sure they had a thing called continuity and good editing back then. It seems to be a dying art these days.
Love (2011)
I only give it 5 for EFFORT
I realise it's LOW budget but I just CAN'T suspend belief THAT much! I love scifi but it has to at LEAST show me a bit of realism. Hey maybe they'll have artificial gravity by 2039 without spinning the space station
.. Maybe they WILL use 1960's pressure suits instead of space suits
who knows???
Some of you have drawn parallels with 2001 or Moon or Solaris (either one) If anyone has seen the old Russian version of Solaris, you may appreciate "Love" but the Russians did a damned fine job with what they had!
Moon was brilliant, twisted and realistic unlike Love in which The script was confusing and don't tell me it's Art and I should understand it. I got it halfway through. The rest was just dribble really. Give me a realistic looking space station without gravity or just spin the damned thing! The war scenes were well done- should've stuck with that and left it to the young soldier to venture into the crashed ship by himself, finding what the astronaut did at the end of the movie. It would've made for a much more interesting film with different parts of the ship pertaining to different eras of human history from the past to the future. Maybe it had been up there since before our knowledge of human history and we had to start over, stuffed up again and that was our legacy which crashed in the desert.....
Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011)
I enjoyed it BUT....
I saw this in 3D against my better judgement, but my mates just HAD to.... I was and they were, VERY disappointed with the 3d effect in this movie. I've read some say that 3d is in its infancy...it's NOT. I watched a movie at Universal Studios in the U.S. back in 97. It was a Terminator 3D extravaganza and WOW! Everything lept out of the screen and felt as if you were THERE. You could almost touch things that "flew" out of the screen. Not so with this movie. the 3d was subtle at best and looked as if it were done in post production. WHY couldn't we have bits of megabot flying out into the audience, exploding above our heads???? etc etc
THAT would've made the movie much more exciting.
Not to say there was not enough action...I felt at times there was TOO much and not enough dialogue or meaning behind it.The main character runs around shouting "We gotta MOVE" all the time and sometimes his lines are totally detached from the scene...meaningless. As for the skirt...JEEZ gimme a BREAK! BOTOX on steroids! uggghhh She couldn't act her way of a paper bag either.
I LOVED the CGI. That's what had me spellbound the whole time. The movie itself lacked something and I think maybe Spielberg might've stuck his finger in the pie a little TOO much this time. FAR TOO MUCH shmaltsy Yankee friggin slowmo hero crap and "we are the greatest". I nearly throw up every time I see that crap in a movie. And the ending...YAAAAAWWWWNNNN If I ever see another US flag waving behind the cast I'm gonna run screaming down the aisle and jump through the screen!!!
Mostly, it didn't make sense. Most of the main characters would've been dead halfway through if it were real but let's face it...it's a comic book.
Apart from that I enjoyed it ;)
Red Faction: Origins (2011)
Uggghhh
WHY BOTHER???? Did the game designers pay for this to be made? LOW budget...dreadful acting. Predictable plot. It's not even a B grader...it's a D! NOTHING like the game. A good movie makes you feel as if you are there and engages the viewer in the story. Mars was totally unbelievable. CGI was totally unbelievable.
"Jake"...WHY are they always Jake? ONE MAN....ONE SHIP...ONE WORLD! Only HE can save them! Will he find his long lost sister? Will he live to see his father die? There's really not much else I can say about this dreadful piece of crap. I would just be typing for the sake of it,so I won't go on anymore.
