Grind (2003)
My nephew made me take him
Wow - I never thought I'd catch up on the much needed sleep I needed as a new mother. I was babysitting my favorite nephew last week and he begged me to take him to this film because his parents refused to sit through it. He is 10. Well, about twenty minutes into this film, I was fast asleep and when I woke up at then end, my nephew was asleep too. Wow - I would recommend all insomniacs go see grind - it's sure to put you to sleep.
Secondhand Lions (2003)
Beautifully acted
Second Hand Lions was a well acted film with some incredible talent involved. I think the story had some weak points, but in all fairness, how many films don't? I would recommend this one as a video/dvd rental - do not waste your hard earned cash for a movie ticket, popcorn and dinner - certainly not worth it unless you sneak in your own food.
Gigli (2003)
Okay, I had to see for myself
I finally had to see this film for myself. Was it just getting a bad rap because of all they hype around the Ben & Jen show? Well - someone must have painted a really good picture to the two stars to get them to sign up for this piece of trash. Knowing they are represented by the same people, (we'll see for how much longer) I can only imagine how they snowed these two, who in my opinion usually choose good projects...I am at a loss for words. This was about 2 hours of my life I will never get back...OUGH!
Suckers (1999)
Remember Stir Crazy???
Okay - this film starts out really funny, really shocking and really makes you think about what goes on at car dealerships behind closed doors. I have heard most of it is true, but in the last half hour they take a turn and have some gang drug deal infiltrate the car dealership that really makes the term "Hollywood Ending" come to mind. They should not have done that - it completely ruined a great film. Almost reminds you of Stir Crazy going into a prison Rodeo at the end...whatever!
A Sight for Sore Eyes (2004)
BACK TO GOOD OLD FEEL GOOD'S
Well, someone finally decided to make a 'realistic' film again in the independent/short world. It seems to me that ever since Pulp Fiction's success in the late nineties, everyone with no budget and a camera have been aiming for the shocking, obscure or plain-right left of center because it's a mindless way to get attention. I am a huge fan, (or at least was) of short and independent films until everything being made focused on some form of abuse, sexual confusion or drug related issues. In A Sight For Sore Eyes, I am happy to say they have done none of that. It's a back-to-the-basics love story of two people that come together from worlds apart. I don't want to give too much away, but there are some beautiful angles that were taken with this picture that kept you interested all the way through. I hope to find more simple films like this coming down the pike, cause sometimes they really touch your heart. BRAVO!
Bret Michaels: Raine (2003)
So, I'm a little bias...
I used to know the guys who made this video, (Brett and Shane) and when I saw it on VH1 the other day, I was truly touched. I just had a baby myself and to see the way they made such a dedication without being too sappy was a beautiful thing. Congratulations and keep up the great work. PS - I miss you!
