Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver (2024)
What's wrong with people?!
I absolutely loved both part 1 & 2, they were brilliant! I am very confused on the bad ratings, I am wondering if these are obsessed Star Wars fans that can't accept or appreciate some similar but different type of story that they have to cut this one down to saying it is awful?! Really?! These movies were so good, story original, action excellent and heartfelt. Was better than majority of the Disney made Star Wars, but maybe that's what all the hate is, not being able to appreciate it for what it is. I love Star Wars, but was able to enjoy these in a different way! Watch it and don't listen to all the hate!
The Gentlemen (2024)
Better then the Movie!
I absolutely lover this series, it was entertaining from start to finish, every episode just keeps you hooked. It is a show with everything in it, witty comedy, disturbing parts, extreme violence and sometimes, they are all in one scene. I saw the movie when it came out, and I enjoyed it, however I remember being a little disappointed by the end of the movie, just couldn't place my finger on what I felt was missing. Now this series, it was brilliant, gets you hooked easily, acting as very good, the 2 leads were tremendous, (Theo James-Divergent series & Kaya Scodelario-Maze Runner series). And how can one not love the irony of Giancarlo Esposito playing a meth king pin... AGAIN like in Breaking Bad and even running shady side scams to position himself on top as a drug lord. That alone is worth the admission, I love Guy Ritchie style of movie telling. The one thing this show in my opinion did NOT do, is have a bunch of filler parts to get you to the hour of each episode, the story telling all tied in and was relevant to the story. Compared to all the Star Wars & Marvel shows flying out on Disney that is half filler and not really relevant.
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
NOT a masterpiece
This movie was just plain awful!! I feel the people that rated this a 10 just want to feel they are superior over others by sounding they were able to get from this terrible movie something so much more then what it was. Now, this was visually good, colour sequences were nice, musical score was good, however 2.5 hours for all that is insanely boring and just plain torture at times! At the 1 hour 10 minute mark, you have a scene of the astronaut go out into space, then for 6 and a half minutes there is just what can only be described as the sound of a pressure cooker whistling constantly! After 3 minutes of this I almost wanted to poke sharp instruments into my ears to stop that sound from making my brain feel like was about to explode! The movie is just filled with endless silence, or repetitive sounds that for the most part were just annoying after 10 to 15 seconds, funny enough, some of these irritating sounds caused my dogs to react and start looking around and have to leave the area. Dialogue is very minimal through entire movie, instead this movie is just filled with instrumental musical score in all the spots not in silence or with annoying sounds.
Then the plot is not really clear, besides a computer named Hal being evil all for the mission, which at that point it turns on the 2 astronauts, not sure if the attempt was to be comedic, or just ended up being like that, but Hal starts to tell the astronaut he is better now, and to please talk to him, (at least it cracked a smile from me).
One of the worst movies I have ever saw, and frustrating that is so highly rated and so many people spewing out comments of how brilliant of a movie this is! Then that lightshow moment late in the movie, I get it was 1969, but c'mon, I felt I was in a lava lamp at some point!.
This should of been an old Twilight Zone episode from the 1950's, 20 minutes would probably of been enough to get the point across of this treaded 2.5 hours masterflop!
Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
Amazing and Mind Blowing
This movie was truly amazing! Not sure why the hate or dislike for this movie by many. From the moment I saw the trailer, the first thing I said "this looks like a Star Wars based movie", and sure enough, I find out that Zack Snyder did write this movie originally as a Star Wars Story, however it was not used, so then he took it back and re-created his own thing. Well what you get is this great feel like your watching a sort of distance story to Star Wars similar universe, and it hits it out of the park! Since Disney took over the Star Wars franchise, they started great with Rogue One & Force Awakens, however after that in my opinion this movie Rebel Moon is better then all the other actual Star Wars based movies and TV shows that have been released. That being said, don't think this is just some knock off to trying to be Star Wars, it is very different and original story, the similarities fall more in visuals like creatures, many alien races, androids or some terms used, many paying homage to the classic, however maintaining it's own path. Can't wait for Part 2 to be released in April 2024.
Clickbait (2021)
A Great Mystery Suspense, that just loses a little at the end
I felt this was such a strong and captivating story, mystery and suspense throughout the series, then it kind of lost a little on the final episode. Overall, I really enjoyed this series, it had good suspense and mystery, constantly having you guessing and thinking you have figured it out with many twists and turns along the way to at times leave you a little shocked. Where this lost much of it's quality for me, was the kid going to the house and the old couple taking him to kill him and that entire final scenes on the farm/trailer. From the moment the kid knocks on the couples door and all that happened following, was to outrageous at that point.
I know many had an issue with the husband after escaping going to confront the older lady, and yes, obviously that isn't completely realistic, however think about it from his end, he was kidnapped and held with threatening of being killed, and when he figured out was nothing to do with him and was let go, he felt he had gone through the worse he would face. Why would he be worried or think going to a lady around 60 years old, (who only created a fake dating account), however had not harmed anyone physically, why would he be concerned to to go confront this lady. In actual fact, that scene added to the shock and twist and kind of sadness of the entire story, as her husband just reacts in a split moment, and with the 1 blow kills him, I was ok with that scene.
I felt that teen boy heading over to what at that point he figured was the person responsible for killing his father, that was completely dumb. Then them taking the kid was more stupidity, I mean at the point a teenager has figured out you are responsible for killing his father, killing him is not going to fix or help to get away with original murder! I hate that typical Hollywood approach that a person figures it all out, goes to confront the killers and then a long dragged out "going to kill you now for figuring it out" and before it happens someone comes to save the day, been done too many times and it is boring and stupid, that ruined a very good overall story.
The other large part many did not like, was the actual final reveal of who was behind it all, and I understand the entire idea some 60 year old woman was bored and did all this, yes, that maybe a stretch, however that to me was what gave it an original concept and provided quite a shock value. The other part of this reveal I actually really loved, was the moment you realize 2 people died over basically a women who was lonely, and the snowball effect that it rolled into, it was so simple, however so sad too, plus unique and never seen before, so that I actually liked.
This is definitely a very worth view, as it keeps you invested into the mystery and difficult not to just keep watching to find out more, felt this did that very well, and most important, provided great entertainment value.
Blonde (2022)
What a huge disappointment
The trailer had me so excited to see this movie, then first 15 minutes of Norma Jean as a child were great and showed very good promise. At about the 45 minute mark was when getting so conflicted, because artistic look and feel of the movie and the black & white to colour jumps were well done. Ana as Marilyn was very good, (I did however catch a couple times where you did hear a tiny bit of her real accent), however for the most part she was great.
The story was where this movie was extremely terrible. I will admit at the start I believed this was more of a biopic, but knowing this is fictional was even worse. Because in the end all this movie was really about was showing an extremely sad and pathetic life that Marilyn lived from start to finish over a long drawn 3 hour snore fest with sex in between to keep your attention.
This maybe the biggest disappointment of a movie I have experienced with all the hype behind it.
As many have already said, sadly this just tarnishes an amazing icon because so many will watch this crap and will actually believe this was her life.
Resident Evil (2022)
Not so bad
I have never played any RE video game, so no clue on any of those storylines anyways. However have watched every movie including the animated ones, and enjoyed all of them, (some more then others), generally all good and enjoyable.
Now this series, I got hooked and watched it all in one sitting, and thought it was entertaining from start to finish. I loved the timeline jumping from 2036 to 2022, (and few in between too), that kept the flow better for me.
If you are someone wanting or expecting some connection of this to stories from the video games or movies, as you already read, this doesn't go there, so maybe best to skip this. If you are a little more open and just want to enjoy a drama with zombies and some gore/violence with a decent storyline that does enough to entertain you, then this does that.
The basics of the storyline is here, T-virus infection, zombies, Raccoon City and Umbrella Corp evil empire that always out to screw everyone. Then add a heroine that maybe not Mila level, but she is not a warrior but more a scientist that kicks ass, then yes there is teen drama in all the 2022 flashback scenes, but they are fine and help the story move overall.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Why the hate?!
This movie was so much better then was actually expecting because of all the negativity around it.
At first may seem confusing and odd, however with time it all starts to make sense, give it a chance. Very creative return to an amazing original trilogy that actually is not a retelling however an addition to it. Also, the main purpose of this movie in all honesty is a love story, and what I found about this movie was that it really sealed that love story from the other 3 movies. Great movie, no idea why so much hate over it, was actually a perfect end to the original trilogy.
The D'Amelio Show (2021)
Try watching entire first episode before reviewing
Ok, so I don't actually think this show is a 10 out of 10, that is just due to so much hate, not sure why?! I would probably say this is more like 6 out of 10 overall, however the truth on the Mental Health aspect as a result of social fame and the importance of bringing light to this important subject overall is the key to this show, too many youth suffer with mental issues and not because of fame, however just general social media, so this is truly the importance of this show!!
Watch the entire first episode to the end before rating and bashing, because if your able to watch the results of the awful hate directed at the sister and the breakdown and mental health issues as a result, after seeing that, if you still feel this is a 1 out of 10, then you probably have never known or know anyone with mental health issues!
Hey, after watching entire 1st episode if still not for you, no problem, shut it off and watch something else, However oddly this show can be helpful for youth suffering from mental health! What did the Kardiashians teach us? NOTHING!! At least this has some benefits.
Grown·ish (2018)
Too many are missing the point of this Show!!
Ok, first thing, this is NOT Black-ish!! All these people giving a 1 star because; not like Black-ish, not PG like Black-ish, too much drugs & sex, not family show, not for kids!!
This is not supposed to be a family show similar to Black-ish, this is a spin-off of Zoey going to college, so yes not going to be a family show!
So much hate on Zoey and her character in this, she is spoiled and blah blah, well kind of the point partially, I mean in a way she is like her father Dre in Black-ish, because it is all about him. If you watch past 3 or 4 episodes you do get addicted to the characters and invested in it.
However what makes this show great is taking real situations of this age of youth today, (between 14 to 25), with the social media and uses these things, (but exaggerates them for comedic effect). I have teenage daughters, and either witnesses things or they tell me drama/issues going on, then I watch Grown-ish, and there it is on TV, the similar situations, issues they told me about, just more dramatic for effect on the show!
The other element of the show is the heart felt topics or relevant issues this touches on is excellent too, sometimes with humour other times serious.
I rated this a 10, not because I honestly feel this is a 10, I would give it a solid 7 to 8 stars max, the 10 was just for all the hate of 1 star, I mean a 1 star is for a terrible show, and this is not close to that.
Snowpiercer (2020)
Season 1 is 9/10, Season 2 is 2/10
Season 1 was very good, interesting story, good excitement and unique story line, that really paints a sad look at real life and the levels of class, and the rich compared to the common people. Overall season 1 was enjoyable and worth the time, solid 9 out of 10.
However Season 2, started ok, but skyrocketed down quick, majority of reviews point out how terrible season 2 was, I was annoyed & frustrated watching the episodes, the Sean Bean character of Wilfred was just extremely irritating. As an actor, I like his work, but this character just got on my nerves and besides being an ultimate bad guy part, most was over the top and didn't have any substance to overall story. I wish there was no season 2, because at least having enjoyed season 1, but disappointed the series canceled and got nothing more, would of honestly been better then watching the 9 over the top awful episodes! I did say 9, because there was 1 excellent episode that came from season 2, it was the entire episode of Melanie (Jennifer Connelly) on the remote outpost, entire episode just her, that showed just how important she is to the show success, as that was another common theme from many reviews that Jennifer Connelly was highlight of show and why season 2 awful having her gone for most of it.
13 Reasons Why (2017)
Season 1 Perfect 10
Season 1 was amazing, so good it touched on very real circumstances with teens, couldn't of been better. Actress who played Hannah was tremendous, all actors were great in Season 1. My rating of 10 was for season 1 only. Then season 2 came, it was not bad, I would say it was a 6 out of 10. Unfortunately they decided that wasn't enough, Season 3 was most a 3 out of 10, that season was awful because it tried to paint a rapist as "a decent guy" with feeling and a gentleman all of a sudden, that to me was extremely depressing, the only highlight was Bryce died. I thought that was bad but then season 4 happened! That was 1 out of 10, it was so terrible, story, acting all bad. But then it got worse, everyone's characters suddenly changed, Zack became a drunk and gave up on everything, Clay all of a sudden got split personality and doing things had no idea, Alex all of sudden discovers he's gay and hitting on all different guys, Jessica well she becomes best friends with Ani who she knows was in relationship with her rapist, madly in love with Justin the boyfriend who allowed her to be raped, oh and sleeping with another guy just to make sure he doesn't find out stuff they did! Tyler, well he becomes a police informant to get guns off the street?! Season 4 is so terrible that when Justin died I was happy thinking it was over, but then another hour left of everyone all happy and the perfect ending with everyone driving off into the sunset! But the best of season 4 had to be the guy who Monty beat up in season 3 because didn't want anyone to know he was gay, and the base of season 4 was him getting vengeance for Monty to prove he didn't kill Bryce, and in the end, he gives up because he loves Alex and doesn't want to turn him in. This season was so messed up from start to finish and I only stuck it out because of respect of season 1, felt should just finish it, but it wasn't easy to watch it. Worse part of all these is people will remember this crap at end and forget how amazing season 1 truly was due to bad taste from the rest!
Yip Man 2 (2010)
First half good, second half bad
So this movie continues from the first IP Man movie, which by the way is truly a tremendous movie, excellent fight sequences and semi-bio on the legend. Let's move on to this 2nd instalment, it starts well, Ip Man trying to establish a school in Hong Kong. The fighting in the first half was good, story was good, (the market fight with machetes did go too far), but still an enjoyable first half of the movie. Then all of a sudden the movie decided to turn into Rocky IV, like exactly! So the big bad British boxer called Twister, (or Russian Drago for the Rocky fans), he fights an exhibition fight versus Master Hung, (or you can call him Appolo Creed). Creed is getting beaten and Rocky, sorry Ip Man is about to throw in the towel to stop the fight, but Master Hung/Creed doesn't allow him to do it. Wonder what happened next? "If he dies, he dies" I really thought that would be said for sure, but that was in Rocky not in this very different movie called Ip Man 2: Rocky Returns. So anyways Ip "Rocky" Man challenges Twister Drago to a fight, they fight, Rocky The Ip Man is getting beat up, looks like he's going to lose, oh no!! "He's NOT a machine", Ip Man beats him, then Ip Man gives a speech to the crowd who are half Brits, half Chinese, and guess what, all the Brits are cheering at the end because of the moving speech... exactly like Rocky did to change Russians to cheer for him! I didn't want to watch a cheap rip off version of Rocky IV, so I would give this film a 6 out of 10 for first half, and a 1 out of 10 for second half of movie!!
Mallrats (1995)
How is this rated so high?!
Ok, so I finally only saw this movie 25 years later, and I didn't hate it, but I didn't have any moments watching this that I really laughed. In my opinion Kevin Smith has some funny decent movies, but then on flip side has some others that are just not enjoyable or maybe just have certain audience's for those. I actually loved Dogma and Jay & Silent Bob, both dumb comedies, but I found them fun, then Mallrats, Chasing Amy & Jersey Girl were awful. Now I need to watch Clerks, hopefully will enjoy that one.
#BlackAF (2020)
One of the funniest shows I have ever watched
This show has me laughing non stop! I am a middle age white guy, and find this to be a hilarious show. I personally never watched Curb Your Enthusiasm with Larry David, however this seems to be a similar approach. Creator of great things stars in a purely adult comedy sitcom. Judging from the ratings and reviews, people love it 9 or 10, or hate it 1 or 2, not many middle of the road. I guess not for everyone, I like the "documentary" style, lots of the comedy is over the top in regards to parenting it's too funny to me, hopefully this has more seasons for me to enjoy.
Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982)
Not a teen comedy
So I missed this big hit back in the 80's, finally saw it almost 40 years later, and waited for the comedy to come, but it never really did. It had great 80's music, a bunch of at the time new famous actors who went on to many great things. I always thought this was a teen sex comedy type movie along the line of Private School, Party Animal or Hardbodies and other similar type, however unfortunately Fast Time never came close to those type of movies. Comedy practically not existent, nudity was in comparison to others was minor. It wasn't a bad movie overall, it was just more drama with a light side. It was also odd that was basically underage girls having sex, Phoebe saying she had sex at 13 years old, and now 15 and in sexual relationship with older guy, Aly is 15 and has a1 night stand with a 26 year old, then the 2nd time has sex gets pregnant. Then going for an abortion at 15?! However I think the "it" factor of this movie that made it classic was Phoebe Cates swimsuit slow motion walk out and showing boobs. She was 18, never did nudity again, and that scene is the iconic scene that every guy knows about, I never saw the movie until now, but had seen that scene or pictures of that for many years. It is a movie for an 80's kid appreciate for nostalgia reasons or maybe saw it back then which at the time might of given me a different perspective, unfortunately at this point didn't do much for me, however glad I saw it finally.
Anna (2019)
Great Movie from start to finish
This movie is amazing from start to finish , the jumping scenes throughout the movie just adds to the great story, Luc Besson is brilliant in his work. Ignore all the haters, if you want a great sexy thrill ride of a movie, this will not disappoint. If you are the kind of person that allows some minor details to completely ruin a movie, especially an action movie which, from what I can tell, in the last 40 years, action packed movies are usually filled with non realistic scenes, stunts, and or minor period piece errors, but that is not the reason anyone is watching them! This is a great spy KGB vs CIA old school fun with a female lead kicking ass. I am tired of people always pointing out how not realistic a woman being able to do stuff like that, it's a MOVIE and the point is to take you away and entertain! Watch it, a fun ride.
Crawl (2019)
Why so much hate?
Ok, so for starters, out swimming an alligator is not realistic, we get it, but if your going to go by realistic elements in most movies, might as well only watch very slow dramas. This movie was entertaining, fun and suspenseful. The 2 leads were good, plot is simple enough but moves along with lots of alligator moments.
In regards to all the comments about the 2 leads getting attacked numerous times by alligators and getting away, again we get it, not realistic, but that is to grow the tension and make you believe the leads may not survive. Plus the entire true theme of this movie was the father/daughter relationship, the fact they are both stubborn but never give up, and their relationship has kind of suffered due to this, and this explains the drive they have especially once they are both together and need each other to push through.
This is an entertaining movie with tension and some gore too, if you are critical of small things in a movie, then probably not a movie for you, if you want to be entertained for 1.5 hours and not have to think too much this will do it.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Why so much hate?
As many have pointed out, nothing will EVER compare to the original trilogy. Plus for many who watched them in their younger years, the impact made in watching those movies at younger age also has huge impact on the way you look upon them too. Regardless the original can never be compared to. The prequel trilogy had its approach to explain all that led to the movies so many loved, and they did a good job and they were well done. The only flaw in the prequel was Jar-Jar being used too much, but as much as that was a slight annoyance, it didn't ruin the overall experience and they were fun enjoyable trilogy.
Here is the truth to it all, even though the recent trilogy obviously connects to the original trilogy with characters, the truth of the matter is, these are truly more of a new trilogy and new direction of telling of the story, so in a way all the original Luke Skywalker story line told in episode 4, 5 & 6 had a start & finish. So in episodes 7, 8 & 9, the story still has Luke within the story, however he isn't the main focus of this trilogy. Think back to the prequel trilogy, who was that entire trilogy about? It wasn't really about Anikan Skywalker, but it was more about Obi-wan Kenobi showing his journey through all 3 prequels as he was the focus and biggest character in all 3 of those movies. What happens when you go to episode 4, Obi-wan (old Ben), is a small part and it was all about Luke now. Well this new trilogy basically did the exact thing, Luke had been reduced to small character and now was about Rei and all the new characters. If you watch these 3 new movies as more of a new direction of stories and still including old characters to connect together, then you are able to enjoy these movies much better. This final episode 9: Rise of Skywalker closes off this trilogy with connection to the original trilogy with lots of nostalgic visuals, (or voices), and at the end you have a very exciting and enjoyable trilogy new series. Are there flaws, yes there are, but a big part is because of the constant comparison and/or expectations everyone has! Just enjoy these for what they are and understand nothing could EVER come close to getting the same feeling majority of people got when they saw the original Star Wars Trilogy and nothing will ever be able to match that! "Luke, I am your father" can never come close to matching the feelings you had at that moment if you watched it for the first time, so instead of trying to capture something that can NEVER be recaptured again, best to enjoy these new set for what they are.
L.A.'s Finest (2019)
Fast Moving with many twists & turns
Not sure if many of these bad reviews are based on watching episode 1 only, as it appears so. As you watch each episode, more twists and history is revealed, and the pace of the show is great as not dragging on and on. Also no idea why people say the writing is awful, when there is so much back stories that branch off and all come full circle to tie in together. Definitely do not judge on first episode, give it a chance, and will get you hooked. It is a Bad Boys brought to TV with female leads, and I love that. Gabrielle & Jessica are stunning and add some humour with some action, and don't go looking for Emmy Nominations and you will get a kick from this show.
