Bend It Like Beckham (2002)
Knightley gets the crown
This movie rocked hard! After seeing Pirates of the Caribbean, I wondered how Keira Knightley would furthur emerge. Well, Bend it Like Beckham is the answer. Her character, Jules, reminded me alot of me. I was always a tomboy who loved sports and hated long hair and nice clothes. I felt as if Jules and I coencided. although the others did well aussi, Keira Knightley gets the crown for performance.
Chicago (2002)
Good Musical Work
Richard Gere. Catherine Zeta-Jones. Renee Zellweger? I at first didn't believe that Chicago was going to be a musical after hearing these names of pure actors. Acting, meaning they act, not sing. I was happily mistaken. They all did a great job, acted their roles well, and could (whatta ya know) sing. It was good, but I think this movie is going 2 be at a tough competition with Moulin Rouge.
This Time Around (2003)
Morality at full-blast
If anything, this teaches you a moral, or two, really. 1. Nerds in High School can be the coolest thing on the planet as adults. 2. Don't get mad, get even. This is a cute family movie, but if you're not really into the whole "the moral of the story is" thing, skip it. But otherwise, see it. It's not bad at all.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
Awesome!
Johnny Depp never ceases to amaze me. Edward Scissorhands to What's Eating Gilbert Grape to POTC. His role of Jack Sparrow is entertaining alone, but he adds a spark of real Johnny Deppness to the character. It's good seeing Orlando Bloom in a movie where he has a larger role. He proves he can handle different types of roles really well (and I must say I think he really improved since Fellowship of the Ring). Keira Knightley shines again after seeing her in Hole and the Princess of Thieves, she's really matured acting wise and made a drastic change for the better. The plot was really cute, and they didn't sugarcoat this film like they do most other Disney movies. I'm really impressed.
Galaxy Quest (1999)
Cute
This movie was pretty cute but I can't say it's one of my favorites. Think of Star Trek as strong coffee and Galaxy Quest as coffee with all that sugar and cream added. It could have been a good basic sci-fi movie, but the comedy did add a little entertainment, even if it was a little over the top. It was basically the 2 Allens (Alans) who impressed me, Tim Allen and Alan Rickman. They made a great opposing pair, despite their different personalites. All in all, a good movie, but it didn't need everything it had.
Election (1999)
Yup...this is MTV all right
I thought this was not a good movie. A few parts are good but what's with the beesting and the several sex scenes? I've seen alot of good and bad movies in the 18 years of my life, and I must say I wasn't impressed at all. This definately fits into the bad movie category.
The Wonderful World of Disney: Oliver Twist (1997)
Dickens Would Be Proud
Seriously, he would. There have been SEVERAL remakes of Oliver Twist, including the popular musical "Oliver," but I'd have to say this is the best one of all of them. The young kids do memorable performances, as do the adults. This is perhaps one of my all-time favorite movies.
My Girl (1991)
Laugh and Cry Movie
This movie will make you laugh. This movie will make you cry...I know I sound cheesy, but seriously, this movie balances out funny and dramatic perfectly. I really liked it, even though it really isn't in my genre. Anna Chlumsky did such a memorable job, as did Mackuly Culkin, Jamie Lee Curtis, and (my main man) Dan Akyroyd. Congradulations, guys. Well done.
Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987)
Candy at his Finest
I love John Candy. No matter what he's in, no matter how bad the script, he manages to pull something together and make it really awesome. And Planes, Trains, and Automobiles was no different. Steve Martin was awesome too, and I think this was one of his better ones (I didn't particularly like Sgt. Bilko or Father of the Bride that much). I don't think I'd like the movie if they weren't in it, but I might. I dunno.
