Discover the Gift (I) (2010)
a gift in itself
25 July 2011
I'm often cynical when it comes to these kind of movies, but this one quickly changed my mind just like 15 minutes in. It felt really genuine and the lessons it attempts to teach are truly deep. Watching it gave me that feeling of having butterflies in my stomach. I felt really bubbly because all of a sudden I was so hopeful about what my future could hold. On top of it I also got this sense of relief because I was finally able to let go of so many grudges that I had been holding on to. Its not quite so much a movie you see but a movie you experience. And unless you take a couple of hours to enjoy the experience, let go and let the lessons sink in, its quite impossible for you to understand what you're missing out on.

Surprisingly good!!!
27 May 2011
Midnight movie, the killer cut, was really a lot better than I expected. I liked the first one and I usually hate when there are remakes or sequels of a movie because I always feel like they just end up ruining it and like they should have just let the original one be. However, I actually found the killer cut to be a lot better. The first 30 minutes go by rather slow but after that 30 minute mark the movie manages to keep you on your toes. I really enjoyed that the movie didn't follow the typical clichés, and instead managed to keep a unique sense of originality. The movie doesn't fulfill your expectations and I mean this in a good way. What you may expect to happen doesn't, and the ones you may expect to live or die don't. In slasher films one can always expect the people wandering alone to die, but in this movie anyone anywhere can become the victim, it doesn't matter if your in a room with 10 people or not, anyone in this film at any time is susceptible to falling prey to this psychotic killer. I highly enjoyed this because it constantly kept me guessing and surprising me along the way. For a low budget slasher movie I was really surprised at how good it was, and felt completely satisfied with it at the end. So if you want a scary, gory, and thought provoking movie filled with surprises, go watch this film!!!

Viva Riva! (2010)

A ruthless thriller!!
24 May 2011
A total action packed thriller with ruthless violence and exotic sex scenes! It follows the story of Riva, a charismatic young man who stole fuel from a gangster, his chase for Nora, a vibrant woman who is already dating another gangster, and a gangster's chase for Riva to try and get his money back. The movie successfully portrays the levels of violence people in the Congo can reach when stuck in a country ravished by poverty, corruption and hopelessness. It shows how the violent lust for money and power can lead to your doom. As we see in the end all the gangsters chase for money leads them nowhere but to their dead end. When the young boy pretends he is driving away with the money at the very end I got the feeling that it was supposed to symbolize that history repeats itself and that money is an evil tool that can take over anyone's life, even a young boys. Its an in your face look at the extreme brutal reality in the Congo, that makes you think and keeps you on your toes!

Bride Flight (2008)

Touching and Mesmerizing!!
24 May 2011
Bride Flight is an absolutely beautiful movie that serves as a window into the lives of 4 people, and the connections between them after they met and bonded on a plane to a new start in New Zealand. Its a romantic drama that takes it beyond just the romance shared between two of the characters and makes it about the relationships these four people have with each other throughout their lives. It goes beyond a love story and makes it a story about life, the relationships we have with the people around us, the choices we make, and the regrets and satisfactions that come from those choices after we've lived out our lives and reached old age. I'm not really into chick flick love stories, but the fact that it is more about life in general and the outcomes from our choices made the movie a lot more relevant to me. The four principle characters are absolutely fantastic! Their acting is superb and each one of them makes you fall in love with them in their own unique way. The ending is emotionally touching as the three women look back at the man that changed all their lives in a way they never thought possible, and ride away together reminiscing on the lives they've lived, and their relationships together. It's absolutely touching and beautiful!

How to Live Forever
12 May 2011
I personally really enjoyed this documentary. I feel like people that have disliked it have missed the actual message of the movie. I don't think its supposed to answer our questions about how to actually live forever, as much as its supposed to answer our questions about the best ways to live. If we figure out how to live right (mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically) and living to the fullest by doing the things we love, we may end up figuring out how to live as long as we can. I think he tries to show us that if we lead happy lives, our lives will thank us with extra time and longevity. He does an excellent job at combining both the non physical things we can do (i.e. spiritually, emotionally) with the physical things like nutrition and cosmetic. Although handling a touchy subject he manages a smooth unfolding with lighthearted humor.
