Convicting a Murderer (2023)
The missing pieces
Have greatly enjoyed this documentary through the first four episodes. If you're not a fan of Candace that's ok. She only provides minor commentary here and there. What's more interesting is hearing from those in Steven's family...there's a lot that was cut out of Netflix's interpretation. So it's good to see full context on some aspects of the case. If you want to be well rounded on this story this is a real must watch so you can at least say you've heard both sides. I can already say that I have a much better understanding of how cars are crushed, Avery's history towards women, and the insane behavior of this family. Do yourself a favor and watch this series.

A return to what worked in seasons past
This episode actually made me laugh out loud. Something that's been a rarity in season 9 - even those with Joe. Obviously Covid made it harder to film, but this episode was a return to the similar humor that worked in seasons 1-8. I still don't get the random guest star...they add absolutely nothing and feels like an admission that they don't think the three of them can carry an episode.

The best so far without Joe
I've been giving pretty harsh reviews of IJ since Joe left - and over the last two seasons too. This one was a big improvement though. The presentation bit helps as that's one of their best. Not sure why we need a random celebrity each episode though. They add pretty much nothing.

Bits take too long
Ever since season 8 or so the bits have been played out too long. Feels like the viewer gets robbed of a third challenge each episode. And it's become less and less impromptu and more scripted where the guys can hide behind playing a character. Joe Gatto leaving didn't kill this show...it was already dying before he left. It feels like The Office in a way. Seasons 2-7 were amazing - some of the best on television. We're all so invested that we have to watch the rest of the episodes but we're constantly let down. Sad to see.
