Blood Shot (2002)
I had fun with this film and hope to see more work by Dietrich Johnston in the future.
Synopsis : Blood Shot is a quirky Action / Horror / Comedy about a Vampire who works for the United States Government; CIA: Vampire Division. A tough Cop pursues, determined to rid the world of this evil blood sucker.
When the Vampire is sent on a mission to annihilate a terrorist cell in Los Angeles, he must convince the Cop to join him in the fight against the greater evil; a warehouse full of terrorist scum.
Overview : A mixture of styles from BLADE to INNOCENT BLOOD with a little bit of American Pride thrown in. *Atmosphere - The setup for this movie got the point across : a cop versus the bad guys. A chain smoking detective debriefing an agent will let you know not to mess with these guys. You think they are all very serious until one attempts the name of the terrorist. 2 minutes later he is done
*Pace - A bit jumpy at the very beginning. I felt I was watching a trailer for the first few minutes then it finally kicks in with a smooth story. Definitely a movie for those that enjoy an action packed horror movie.
*Cast/Characters - Was nice to see actors with talent and that didn't have any difficulty in front of the camera. Michael Bailey Smith did a remarkable job as the vampire, I definitely wouldn't want to run into HIM in a dark alleyway! *F/X - A few impressive explosions and bad guys flying through the air, blood being splashed on the walls and the cop and vampire dueling it out.
Jekyll's Final Thoughts I have to be honest and say I am not a fan of movie shorts - only because I always want MORE MORE MORE! I had fun with this film and hope to see more work by Dietrich Johnston in the future.
Sleepless Nights (2022)
If you like Vampire type things, you should probably look for this and rent it before you buy
If you are into "Buffy" or "Angel" or any of the bad guy vs. good guy vampire type shows, you are sure to get a kick out of this movie. The theme we seem to have going in this movie is the guy turned vampire but wants to do good instead of bad. Eventually, Kaitlin Moore (Played by: Jacqueline Anderson) from the "good team" gets a soft spot for Christian Grey; the good Vampire (played by: Matthew Thomas) always keeping him one step ahead of the NCA and ends up wanting to become a vampire after finding out about her health situation.
The Special effects are kind of fun, and the setting is mostly dark, dim lit, or just plain night, for obvious reasons. There are things that will make you cringe, laugh, and roll your eyes. However there is not much in the way of dead silence, there is always "effect music" in the background which always helps.
If you like Vampire type things, you should probably look for this and rent it before you buy. 4 out of 5 stars from Igor.
Biohazardous (2001)
If a jaded adult horror fan and innocent beginning young fan can both enjoy it, i'm going to have to say that YOU will too!!
I actually had a hard time remembering that this IS an indie film - better than indie and yet still not 'major' production house - Biohazardous delivers a fun time with a punch... a bloody gorey punch that's bound for your veins!
Excellent sound effects and smooth dialogue helps the clear, steady picture work it's magic and make you forget it's indie... The music was well done and very appropriate per scene, albeit it was a bit too quiet on occasion and could have used some background music. The acting was most definately above average for indie films and some of these young stars just may be headed for bigger things. And finally, the story. Innovative with a familiar ring. Part 'the stand' and part 'night of the living dead' but all twisted around in it's own path.
The closeup of the eyeball on the scientist as he dies, the reference to Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and the backstory were wonderful elements. But perhaps the most surprising of all [and i mean this in the best way] was the fact that i enjoyed it immensely - and it was a gore fest in the truest sense of the word. I normally don't like the gore but found myself both amused and entertained.
And to make matters worse, i let the 6 year old watch it not knowing exactly how gory it would get - and he LOVED it! I try covering his eyes while the zombies are tearing the flesh off the newly dead and he's pushing me away saying 'wow', 'wicked', and my favorite 'that was just sick' with a big cheesy grin...
If a jaded adult horror fan and innocent beginning young fan can both enjoy it, i'm going to have to say that YOU will too!! Rating? Without a doubt 4 stars - it's not in theaters, so you might want to hunt down a copy asap for the collection, especially if you are a gorehound or zombie lover!

Killer Me (2001)
VERY well done, and not your typical serial killer film. This is very cleansing to the palate.
Premise:" Killer Me is a mysterious, unsettling film that gets inside your head with a gritty, first person feel recalling low-budget shockers like Peter Bogdonovich's Targets and Michael Powell's Peeping Tom. "
This film is a refreshing change to the popularly done serial killer films. What you see is what you get. It's not in your face, it's not forced, it is a nice, refreshing travel through a serial killers day to day life.
Joe is a serial killer that is triggered by violence. Living in a not so nice area makes Joe's killing sprees an avid event. But what is different about this film, is that Joe HAS a conscious. You get the feeling that he doesn't really like what it is he does. And you just have to like that when he tried to kill a couple of people, Murphy and his laws come into play, and all attempts are ceased.
Anna comes into Joe's life by way of a college class they are in together. Things slowly unfold and he begins to have feelings for her with the "you remind me of my mother" factor.
If you are looking for gore, nudity,or soft porn, don't watch this movie. This movie has taste and class. I wouldn't be surprised if they showed this film on IFC some day. VERY well done, and not your typical serial killer film. This is very cleansing to the palate.

Near Dark (1987)
Near Dark is near dead
-- This 1987 Vamp movie, states that it is a classic on the cover box, and perhaps it is. But this reviewer doesn't think so. First off the plot line, story arch whatever you want to call it doesn't really mesh all together. Jesse ( Lance Henrickson) and his clan go from bar to bar, killing people and stealing cars. Add in Caleb and his refusal to kill and you have would a good storyline. It just doesn't all come out as well as I think it could have. Though there are good moments, like how each member has their own way of attracting their prey. But their are bad, and I mean bad moments, such as a blood transfusion being the cure to vampirism. Um.. No, that simply goes against the principals of all vamp. movies. The body is dead, just pumping some blood back into it isn't going to bring you back to life-- see what I mean it is moments like that, that just grind against the good parts. The production looks mostly stylized and why it never really gets to the point of being creepy, or ominous-- you can tell it really tries to get there. The acting is very good, Bill Paxton gives a crazed performance as only he can do. And the rest of the cast hold their own. The special effects are typical Vamp movie effects, Karo-syrup blood and sun-light burnt skin. But one irritating thing, at no point do the Vamp's ever have fangs, they bite people, but no fangs?? Another moment that just grinded my nerves like nails against chalkboard.
-- Let's face it, there is only a couple of good vamp movies, Dracula, The Lost Boys, and Interview with a Vampire. to name a few. The rest are nuts, trying to recreate the vampire rules every time, some things can kill them, some things can't. It begins to become overwhelming. Unfortunately Near Dark falls into the bad category. At no point were the vamps, scary or even sexy in that shirtless Lestat ( Queen of the Dammed) way.
Aquanoids (2003)
Pretty decent for an Indie flick
I think this movie was well done, keeping in mind this is a Indie/ B-type movie. The acting was pretty good for the most part, and there was some gore. The nudity was thrown in for good measure I believe, but all in all it was a decent creature flick. If you like b-movies, creature flicks and Indie films, I suggest giving this movie a watch.
