Narrows (2013)
Action packed thriller
I was introduced to Thomas' work with Darkest Case series and really fell in love with his style and vision for storytelling. It was later that learned that this show, Narrows, came first. This show is a little different as it draws more on the action rather than drama but it does so in a tasteful way. The fight choreography is very raw and paired up with the camera work it helps to sell the premise on very modest budget. The characters are cool and dialogue is snappy which makes the series fun to watch. There is more to come from Spotlight Frick as this series is not over yet. I look forward to see what else is in store for the protagonist, Trace, in next season of Narrows. On the side note, I really like the crossover of seeing various actors from Thomas' Darkest Case series which is also very much worth checking out!
Darkest Case (2014)
Crime Drama on budget
It's easy to criticize the small budget stuff without knowing how much actual work and passion goes into the project. Thomas Frick's Darkest Case is a fantastic web series that focuses on the storytelling. The characters are great and pull you in for a good mystery thriller. One of best parts for me personally is that the show matures and grows stronger as it goes further along. A lot of series can start out strong and fizzle out fast but that's not the case here. It is great to see the filmmakers grow and expand their knowledge over the years and this series is a perfect study of that. As an amateur filmmaker I often overlook the small mistakes and look at the bigger picture. I would love to see something like this on a bigger budget because there is a lot of promise in Frick's acting as well as his storytelling as a filmmaker. Keep up the good work.
The Christmas Ride (2020)
Different Kind of Christmas Movie
I think the realism of story is what makes it so interesting. Not everyone is having same type of Christmas morning as often shown in many Christmas movies. It's more darker and upsetting in a way. There are some great heartwarming moments but this is a drama film and a different type of Christmas film.
Eat the Rainbow (2019)
Saw a screening at TBUFF in Tampa
I just saw the screening of this amazing short film at TBUFF in Tampa. It was one of my favorites! Very well made. From writing to production design to just about anything. It's so freaking funny, the whole audience was bursting in laughter. I am very glad I got a chance to see this on the big screen. The film got nominated and won award at the TBUFF 2019.
