Thousand Fangs (2021– )

It could have been a good movie instead.

The premise is cool and very predator themed with a team going into the jungle to take out a target. I wont go into the story as I don't want to give spoilers but all in all it's pretty solid. The problem is it turns from an action series into long drawn out scenes that involve walking around in caves, jungle and abandoned buildings. These scenes at first are useful to build tension and jump scares are well placed and not over used but after a few episodes it becomes obvious that it's just padding to stretch out the run time. There are no answers to anything along the way so by the last few episodes I really didn't care what was going to happen because I suspected there weren't going to be any real answers. It could have easily been edited down to a long but action filled movie. It's worth a watch but be ready to skip a whole bunch of boring bits.

Shields up manbabies on the port bow

This new version of Trek pretty much ticks all my boxes. It has strong characters, tight stand alone episodes and goes where no person has gone before. It does walk the fine line of "woke" but Star Trek has always engaged modern issues and values so that's to be expected and I don't feel it's out of place.

I read plenty of reviews saying where's the men so lets break that down. The captain, science officer, doctor and engineer are all male, that's not an inconsiderable amount of main cast. I do feel the lesbian sexual relationship of the first officer and security officer was thrown in our faces way to early as a virtue signal but whatever. Lastly the navigator/pilot is there to placate the androgynous crowd but them/they pull it off well.

All Star Trek series have had a rocky start and needed to find footing including the original so I keep my fingers crossed things will only improve on what I see as a good foundation. The fact that it's holding a 8/10 rating even with the storm of negative reviews says a lot as people tend to review more commonly when they dislike something. Hopefully the series only gets better the grumpy self entitled crowd will eventually be won over.

Utter garbage

Warning: Spoilers
I'm just going to leave this review as a few random notes I took while watching it Unlikeable characters that talk to themselves.

30 minutes in and nothing of substance has happened, which is often the case when a movie starts with a short out of context action scene.

Failed jump scares a plenty.

45 minutes and I'm skipping.

A mixture of bad acting and overacting.

Idiot son wants dad to die.

1 hour in and I just want everyone to die and at this point the stories start to overlap.

Michael Rooker might be able to save the movie...nope he's dead.

The old trope of hey I have a grenade drop your weapons is painful to watch.

Zombies? Shoot them in the head ffs!!!

Why aren't the two vapid dumb blonds dead yet!!!

Oh god no don't give them a redemption arc.

Please let it be over.

Not as bad as most video game movies
29 September 2021
So it gets a 5 straight out of the gate, the biggest score I give to a movie I find myself skipping through. The jokes are meh and the script is predictable. I have been an avid gamer since Space Invaders hit corner stores and I'll tell you the plot holes are deep and wide. That just leaves the CGI action and it just didn't do enough for me. Ironically I had to play a video game and watch this on a side monitor to fill my attention meter.

Edit - I went back and dropped the score to 4 because on contemplation I couldn't remember one laugh out loud moment.

Who could this drivel possibly appeal to?

The guidelines for IMDb state that a minimum of 10 lines of text must be used for each review and thats thats a real task in this case, considering there is nothing at all redeeming in this travesty of puppetry. I've seen a lot of movies in my time but this has got to be in my top 5 worst ever films, whatever you do don't ever under any circumstances pay money to see this. Don't even buy it for your mother in-law out of spite, as the creators don't deserve another chance to rob the people of this planet of their time and money.

So lets get down to why it was so bad. The puppets are action figures and Barbie dolls which can be great ala "Robot Chicken" style stop motion animation but not when you just move them around and film them from the waist up. The script was so bad that even big name actors couldn't make it work, it was simply unfunny, uninteresting and overall a complete waste of life.

This title has been compared to the film "Team America" which sits proudly on my shelf at home, but the only thing they have in common is that they both have puppets. Im actually ashamed that I watched this film and I will struggle to erase it from my mind.
