Never saw anything like it.
7 July 2013
Warning: Spoilers
After watching as many movies as I did, you kinda feel like there isn't much else out there that can surprise you. Boy, was I wrong. Without going into any spoilers or too much detail, this is a truly unique movie, and because of that, it might not be for everyone.

Extreme violence, spectacular cinematography, not much dialogue or monologue for that matter, and a painfully slow pace. But at the end, me and a friend of mine, we went out with big smiles on our faces.

The other ~9 people in the theater, didn't. So you get the point, I hope. It's nothing like Drive, other than the similar visual style.

It's slow, at time extremely confusing, with loads of Freudian theories like the Oedipus complex, etc. Don't watch the movie expecting cliché action or story development, because you will be thoroughly disappointed.

Go see the movie if you want a visual treat, like Refn's work, and don't mind some of the most realistic death and torture scenes I have ever seen.

I did not expect this.
10 April 2012
First of, let me say that, this review comes from a guy that has seen 30 minutes of the first and original American Pie like, 7-8 years ago, and the rewatched the whole movie a few days ago. So, basically, I knew the characters at a minimal amount before watching ''The Reunion''.

I'll try and make this as short and as sweet as possible. I gave it a 10. Why? Because it's simply fantastic. I pretty much have a good opinion on the first original movie, so I expected something very similar to that, but I got more then I could've wanted. It's fresh, it's original, it's brutal in some points (in a good way), and all the original characters return, which is, after seeing those guys 13 years ago in the first part (that I watched a few days ago again) get together on the big screen after all that time, is really amazing and heart warming.

Really, and honestly, go and see it. It's fantastic. Again, I'm not the biggest fan ever, and I have pretty high and specific taste in comedy (as it is my favorite genre) and am considered the Finch by my group of friends - even I gave this movie a 10/10. No flaws at all. Absolutely none.

Safe House (2012)
9/10
I did not expect it to be this good.
9 February 2012
I'll be honest. When I saw the trailer, I was madly excited. It looked fantastic. But then, after a while, I remembered, that the main point of a trailer is to do just that. Hype the film, while revealing literally all the main plot scenes and parts. I didn't know if it was the case with 'Safe House', since, hey, it's Denzel Washington. That man doesn't just do any role.

I just got back from the movie theater, and am I glad that I was wrong. The movie is fantastic, electrifying. Do know that I don't just 'get off' on any action flick. In most cases, I just watch and forget. This was actually, fantastic. I don't have a single bad word to say about it, the way it was directed, acted or anything else. Everything was simply fantastic.

I realize my words sound absurd, and the score looks the same, but it really is worth it. I didn't see an action movie this well written, and this well acted in a really, really long time. Of course, by the end of the movie, any experienced watcher will figure out the ending by himself, but even though you 'get it', it's still extremely fun to sit through and see how the pieces connect.

I really hate long reviews, so I'm trying to make this one as short and sweet as possible. Lastly, have in mind that not one cast member failed his role. Ryan was fantastic, even better then I could've imagined (a nice showing of his acting skills after Green Lantern and Change-Up), and Denzel, what to say that hasn't been already said about that man's acting. Phenomenal doesn't cut it.

Go and see it. It's much better then anything else thats currently 'showing'.

A masterpiece, and stupid at the same time.
24 December 2011
I didn't have this much mixed emotions for a film in a long, long time. The film blew my mind. I will divide it in two parts. As the film lasts two hours in total, let's divide it in an hour each.

The first hour is a masterpiece. Such good acting, dialog, scenery, the director, Mark Pellington, has truly made a masterpiece. I did not see such good ''camerawork'' in a long time. The actors, could have not acted better. I was stunned by the chemistry between them. It truly is, if you don't mind the theme of the story, a fantastic 'drive' through the first hour. The soundtrack, was also stunning as well. For the first part of the movie, had it not have changed through the second part, it would have been an 11/10. By the virtuosity of the complete package, a flawless portion of the film, with amazing realistic relations and events.

After things go wrong, in more ways then one, the movie kinda goes on another road. Not that it's a bad road, but the execution was bad. A story, that I could not completely believe, kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. To end it all like they did, was in my opinion, a bad way, and the film simply goes downhill.

Why the incredibly high score then? Because it was beautiful. It was stunning, and as others pointed out, not for the emotionally weak or those who live in a glass house, not involved with real life problems and tragedies we all endure during our daily lives. To put it in overused terms, it's simply epic, and emotionally draining.

A gem.

Probably the worst Rowan Atkinson has done so far.
16 September 2011
Before I start writing my thoughts about the movie, do have in mind that I am a enormous fan of Rowan's work. He truly is a comic genius, and still, hasn't lost his touch.

As for the film, it's the worst movie I've seen so far this year. I had NO expectations. I loved the first one from 2002/2003, when it came out, thinking - if it would be only half as good as the original, it would be worth it. I was wrong.

The target audience are children, under 10 or so. Anyone else, older than that, won't even chuckle. I know. I wasn't the only one in the cinema over 10. The kids behind me were having a blast, screaming out at the top of their lungs.

There is nothing original. The story is shallow, uninteresting, and badly written. The cast of supporting actors is shameful, none of them give an performance worth of noticing. It's a real shame the actors who portrayed Agent Boff in the first part wasn't here. Probably with a reason.

The best parts, the most laughable, are the ones in the trailer. That's it. Not one scene more. By the end of the movie, you will be looking at your watch, asking yourself 'how much more until it ends'.

Rowan Atkinson still hasn't lost his touch though, and was a real pleasure to look at while he was doing what he does best. Sadly, his performance wasn't enough for this movie to even be enjoyable.

I advise not to watch it. I honestly don't, even though I honestly never have any expectations from any movie. If you have children, they'll love it though.

Hall Pass (2011)
10/10
The movie delivers what it's supposed to - comedy.
20 March 2011
I never really expected much from Hall Pass, since the Farrelly brothers kinda lost their touch in the years back, but this is pure gold. After a long day, this is the perfect way to end it. The perfect way to kill time.

It's fast paced, every scene is filled with something funny. I don't remember laughing as much as I did tonight. (at a movie) The story is great, it develops perfectly, it's original, and the actors are perfect for their respective roles.

It's everything you should get from a comedy movie. It blows Due Date; Little Fockers; and other comedies from a few months back by far.

Rango (2011)
7/10
Not as good as I hoped.
20 March 2011
The whole movie is unnatural. There are some great parts, the voice acting is great, and the graphics are mind blowing, but it just doesn't cut it. The movie is extremely slow-paced. At times, I, and everyone else almost went to sleep. Some characters just aren't fit.

The story itself, for the most part, is not engaging, and fun. In movies like these, there should be a WOW factor present, like in Kung Fu Panda for an example, but there isn't one in Rango.

I didn't really like it. My friend was amazed.

So, it's a lot up to the viewer. It's not something that can appeal to any viewer. But, if you have time to kill, then I guess this will do just fine.

Jaw-dropping.
2 March 2011
While a 10 seems a bit over the top, a 9 seems underrated. I went to see the movie, but with low expectations. I left the cinema amazed, intrigued, and with a smile on my face. This is an amazing movie, with an Inception vibe to it (even though there is no connection). The acting is great, the shooting locations are great as well, and the story, the story is jaw-dropping.

It actually makes you wonder, could it be true. The whole idea of men in suits who control your destiny, in such a cool way is a perfect fit for a film. The best thing, there is not time wasted on fillers and not-important things. It's 100% action and brain storming.

Go and see the movie, you will be amazed. As it always turns out, the movie will get mediocre reviews, due to the Inception vibe, but it has nothing in common.

There wasn't an empty space in the theater.
28 February 2011
People often throw the word ''brilliant'' around, like it's nothing. Truth is, we rarely see a movie that deserves that in front of it's tittle. This one does. This one, really does. While I for one, know, that there is no-one who will actually read this, but getting things off the chest is always good.

It's been years since I've seen such good acting. Such witty humor, incorporated at just the right time. The movie... ugh. It's hard to describe. Some will love, some will hate it, but, deep inside, it's not the best movie in 2010, it's one of the best movies in years. I wont go that far as saying in the decade Do yourself a favor. Watch this masterpiece. If not, you will be doing a great disservice to yourself.
