Project Blue Book (2019)
Great series with some flaws
Project Blue Book is a well done ten episode series with excellent acting and several thought provoking plots intertwined. However, you will need to be very forgiving of the sound man who loves to triple the volume in an attempt to keep his viewers alert. Unfortunately, his only accomplishment is bringing anger to this well done series. Still, it is easy to binge-watch this (with your sound control in hand). I vote 7 but it is a 9 with some sound repair.
Bad Samaritan (2018)
Excellent thriller.
Bad Samaritan should leave all viewers on the edge of their chair in many scenes. I'm not a horror film lover and hesitated to watch this because of the low 6.3 IMDB review. I have to disagree with this low rating as reflected by my vote of 10. The acting and plot were very convincing and it was all believable.
Congratulations to Director Dean Devlin and Writer Brandon Boyce for hitting the nail on the head. As always, David Tennant and Robert Sheehan do a superb job of entertaining. This movie is the type that is not easily forgotten. Two thumbs up!
Blue Planet II (2017)
Good Animation
I'm one of David Attenborough's greatest fans. His six decades plus of experience in bringing nature into our homes is overwhelming. However, this documentary series is stretching the limit on animation. Yes, it saves great sums of money to dub every scene with what might really happen in the wild, but I'd much rather stay closer to reality.
Sorry, David. I can't give this more than a 2, despite the excellent message. Nature documentaries should be real.
Mother! (2017)
Waste of Your Time
The acting in this movie is so good that you will force yourself to keep watching, optimistic that a plot will ultimately disclose itself. By the conclusion, however, you realize that two hours of your life is gone without purpose.
There is little reality in this plot-less gathering of great actors. It must be very frustrating for actors to engage themselves in such a movie. I give "Mother" a 2 rating at best, despite the superb acting effort.
Midnight, Texas (2017)
Dying is near impossible
I'm a fan of futuristic shows with a little mystic and magic, but when someone stands in front of a spray of machine guns and doesn't die, then all bets are off. This show is nearly in the league of Chinese films where two Samurai jump 50 feet into the sky and fist fight for 10 seconds. If you can forgive the undying, then this series might be for you?
Young Sheldon (2017)
Let's change Sheldon's name to Jerry
We have two paths for appraisal here. In the context of leading into "The Big Bang Theory" it would rate a 6, but let's change Sheldon's name to Jerry and disconnect the series from Big Bang Theory, then that 6 would become an 8. The overshadowing Sheldon Cooper of the future leaves huge footprints for this series to follow, but "Young Sheldon" is well done and there are many good chuckles, despite Iain Armitage's youthful acting.
I'm hoping Iain can accept this challenge and become even better as he lives the life of a genius in future episodes. I would give "Young Sheldon" an 8 and am hoping for a future 9.
