Rings (2017)
"Whatever you are leave him alone"- Julia
After debating on whether or not I actually wanted to see the film. I saw it and to my dismay it wasn't that bad, but nor was it good. But the filmmakers at least tried. Although some may complain about another reboot, it exist.
For those who saw the first 3 minutes and thought the movie was going to be bad I can tell you that that part was the worst part of the movie and the most over the top. Actually Any time you see Samara it goes over the top which in my opinion hurts the film but if you can get over that and it scares you go for it!
While its fun to see Samara on the big screen again scaring people it was not fun to see her in a new story line where they just misused her in my opinion.
This film in my opinion falls flat and is very confusing as to what is going on as far as the reason people are using her in an experiment for, and the stake for the main character are not high enough her goal is clear throughout the movie but the motivation is not. The new concept in this film was weird I wont spoil it. Also I remember watching the first movie a lot when i was younger. When was the stipulation added that if you make someone else watch the movie then you will beat Samara. And could you see her before you watched the video tape?
One thing that i thought was cool but also didn't work was the second half of the film was just exactly like the first ring structure wise with the use of someone helping them and then trying to hurt the main character Brian Cox- Vincent d'onofrio.
If you like jump scares then you will be scared of this film. The main characters arch was pretty cool, but again the film tries to put its on spin on the franchise to make more sequels but in my opinion tries to make Samara/ The Ring into a different type of horror film.
Overall the film tried and it wasn't too bad as i though it would be although i wish it was better. If you are looking forward to this film enjoy, if your not don't watch it cause you probably wont like it, whatever mindset you have going into the film will probably have already made up your mind before you even sit down.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016)
The Trinity of all B*tches- Dr. Alexander Isaacs
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter
Just finished watching this film in an advanced screening for Gamestop pro costumers. First off let me say i am a huge fan of the games and I like the film series. I know there is no comparison between the two besides the mention of a few characters.
After waiting 5 years to see the last installment after RE: Retribution I thought this last would have potential of reviving the series. But what was I thinking it came out in January and most of know what that means for most films. Going in, I thought this film was going to be a fun ride and i'm sure it will be for those who love these films no matter what. But for me it just didn't quiet hi the mark for a final chapter for a series. I was hoping that at least the tone of those film was going to be different from the rest of the films like the first RE film.
Lets start with the Good- Alice story arch finishes... Some what. Seeing Milla and Paul W. Anderson play a younger Alice/Red Queen. Seeing Ali Lauter back in action, as well as the up and coming star Ruby Rose.
The Bad- Shaky cam throughout the film, bad CGI, But dialogue but if you like the previous films dialogue i'm sure you won't mind. Throughout the movie my friend and I would laugh, because of the awkward dialogue that was shared between characters. The plot is muddled and confusing. I feel like Anderson tried to do what Brian Singer did with X men: Days of Future Past and fix every little plot hole, but he failed. Once again characters where thrown out the window with no explanation. I don't want to spoil it so i wont say who...
The Ugly- If this film is truly the way this franchise is going to end i will deeply disappointed and i'm sure you will too. Most of the people in the screening were. This film felt very much like RE Afterlife, so if you don't like that one you probably wont like this one. This film tried hard to channel the tone of the first film with the obsessive jump scares and once again going through the hive but it already feels overdone once you get to the end. Once again written by Paul W. S. Anderson
Overall the film really did at its core try to make something out of the final chapter I wont say much cause i don't want to spoil anything but i would recommend waiting for red-box unless you really enjoy the series or want to see an action/ horror film for fun.
Overall it was kinda enjoyable but disappointing. 5/10
Wild 'N Out: Tyga/Scott Disick (2016)
"No Tygas RARRR!!"
This was a great way to start off another season of Wild N out. The cast and crew did another good job at producing a great show and making everyone in the audience laugh.
The only thing that was weird to me was the inclusion of Scott Disick, but he was only there for a little while. And tyga didn't really do much he wasn't that funny too me, but the rest of his crew filled in for his unfunnynest- i know not a word.
Games played were R& Beef, So fly, pick up lines, and of course the freestyle battle.
Overall a decent episode.
The Purge: Election Year (2016)
"I want my Candy!" - School Girl
This movie was way over the top and a good conclusion to the Purge trilogy. There were moments in the movie were I thought the actors were pushing and action too crazy though.
I wish the intro scene with the guy talking in the chair somehow came up again later, because i thought that the scene had some importance. The whole time watching I was waiting for the scene to be scene again, or at least some explanation to it.
I really liked Joe Dixon played by Wykelti Williamson, he was great with the humor in the film. Frank Grillo delivered another solid performance as the protector of senator Charlie Roan in this movie. The narrative of this movie is really great visually. I think the script was okay, their weren't too many clichéd lines. The twist with the involvement of the government officials was really interesting and made this addition memorable.
My one complaint though not a big one was the School girl wanting to kill Joe Dixon just because she didn't get candy. This choice in writing did not make the choice to purge good enough in my opinion, but what they heck. The Candy girl scenes to me seemed like something miley cyrus would make if she directed a horror film.
The church scene made me a little uncomfortable. It was weird. The priest was creepy looking. And i don't understand his involvement other than looks, and his actions towards the end.
The movie definitely will satisfy Purge fans. Any comments please, help. I want to start reviewing movies.
X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)
"The third one is always the worst"- Jean Grey
In this case, It was not the worst one in my opinion. The film was really solid and I thought that it was good. While it was not in my opinion better than DOFP it still had a great story and lots of cool sequences.
I am glad that they did not go overboard with this one like they did in The Last Stand. I think most people that like x-men well still think that it was a decent movie. Unless they just don't like the superhero thing. All the new actor and actress'd did a great job. There were though some parts in the movie that i thought should have gone by faster. Like some of the shots where a hero does something cool and we see him or her stand in glory is getting old and may have been over used in this film in my opinion. I liked the inclusion of history and the scenes with erik are my favorite.
Micheal Fassbender stole the show for me again. As well as the new Scott and Jean Grey they did a marvelous job.
There were some continuity issues that i saw with Storm but, whatever. Ill accept her accent for now. I do wish that i saw more from Olivia Munn's character, i felt like she was just there.
I also wish they set up or fixed the passing of getting all the four horseman together.
In this case the third one was not the worst, but it was still a great addition to the X- Men universe.
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
"Like Pymm always said Never Trust a Stark."
This is my first review so please be kind. Solid film
I just recently saw CA:CW and i will say that it was a pretty solid film as far as Superhero movies go. While i think that this movie was good cinematicly it did not bring anything really new for me. The first half of the film was the usually superhero formula of kicking but. I do like how the make everything tie all together making the avengers look like they were a danger to society, better than BvS with Superman. (Sorry i do not mean to compare the two, i know i sensitive people are with both fan bases. Though i will say there were a lot of similarities) The acting was great, I thought the inclusion of Ant- man and Spider man was a little weak, but it was great to see them. I did think spider man was a little bit annoying though. What was missing for me is the stakes were not high, there needed to be something that was lost but, i will buy what they did with the film anyway. The film really got my attention when the third act took place. No Spoilers.
Acting was great as usual, the shaky cam sucked when they were fighting. Spider mans aunt was weird, cause she was attractive, but hey its something new. It was also weird that Cap got with Peggy's niece. I guess i he likes to keep it in the family. And i wish the inclusion of the bad guy was a little stronger, i was confused and who was who cause they all kind of had similar characteristics. I know that marvel and superhero fans will love this movie and consider it great as they will, whatever film marvel releases, but it was not the best marvel movie. It also didn't really feel like a Cap movie, it felt like a miniature avengers movie.
