House of the Dragon (2022)
Lacks wit or humor of GOT, totally dark and dreary
I will concede production values are good. But the characters are all too serious. What made GOT interesting for me was the mix of characters - good and bad, serious and funny and ridiculous. This show needs a Tyrion, Varys, Little Finger, Bronn or the marvellous Diana Rigg as Olenna Tyrell, among others, to bring out the sarcastic side of the plot. Hopefully that will come. PS: this edit comes after the second episode. I've lowered the rating from 6 to 4 because it was more stolid and even less witty than the first, if that was even possible. A definite bummer.
Street Food: Latin America (2020)
Not really about street food
I like the show, but much of it isn't about what I would call street food. Most of the featured cooks have small restaurants or fixed stalls in permanent locations.
The Big Bang (2010)
Poor Raymond Chandler
It seems no one has ever read a Raymond Chandler or seen one of his films, because this is a remake (without any credit to Chandler) of his book "Farewell, My Lovely". And it's not a good remake either. The mix of 1930's attempt at dialog and action doesn't always feel right in a modern setting. It can feel forced. And, it you are a Chandler fan, who is the originator of this genre, it doesn't live up to the master. Also, if you are familiar with "Farewell, My Lovely" (or the best film version "Murder, My Sweet" with an amazing Dick Powell in a career changing role for him) then there really isn't any surprise in the plot either. All in all it's a bit of a disappointment, even if I try to appreciated the attempt, and Bandera isn't that bad as a Philip Marlowe substitute.
