Dcera (2019)
Beautiful story of love
All the little hurts and slights of life build throughout our relationships. Beautifully animated with what I assume is paper mache. Silence is the real killer here.
A Wrinkle in Time (2018)
Confused by reviews - I enjoyed it.
Saw "A Wrinkle in Time" on Saturday and enjoyed the movie very much. I was in a theatre FILLED with families and the children were quiet and engaged throughout.
As a lifelong fan of the Madeleine L'Engle series, there were some things missing from the movie that disappointed me. But overall it is a pretty good adaptation.
Yes, there might be a little too much clunky CGI but I thought all of the acting was very good. Meg was very good, with all of her wonderful faults. Charles Wallace was not as developed as I would have liked, but knowing the story, that was OK. (One of those missing scenes where Meg confronts her father and all the ways they try to break CW away from the IT should have been in there...)
I will admit that would actually give the movie a 7 or so, but I rated it higher because I fear that MANY of the reviews are racially motivated and thereby bringing the overall score down. This makes me very sad, especially considering the theme and point of the book and film.

Comanche (1956)
For acting less wooden, watch a cigar store indian!
This movie was dreadful from start to finish. From the score to the hokey storyline to the AWFUL acting and portrayals of everyone in the film. The only way my husband and I could watch this film was to give it the MST3000 treatment. And we had lots of fun, but at the movie's expense.
We laughed out loud at the ridiculous singing that underscores several points in the film.
We guffawed at the fact that they kept passing the same bit of scenery over and over.
We could not understand why the Indian chief spoke English with no accent, but couldn't seem to put his words in the right order.
But our favorite part was waiting for the Scalper guy to repeat what someone had just said, but rephrase it as a question. "Wanna know what I think about (insert previous line here)?"
Dreadful.
