OMG: Oh My God! (2012)
A movie Bollywood can be proud of
"I am God, so I can do miracles, but just because I do miracles, that does not make me God"~OMG Oh My God
This is a movie on a topic that is very debatable. The acting by everyone was done well, but Paresh Rawal excelled and gave one of his most convincing performances ever. Akshay Kumar who is my favorite actor had a minor role in this movie and did a good job with what was given to him. The music of the movie was outstanding. Melodious music is rarely seen in Bollywood today (the Kumar Sanu era and before). This music was not only melodious, but it had meaningful lyrics as well. Now down to the topic.
The movie is about a man who issues a case against God for causing an earthquake that destroyed his shop. At first I thought he would just find evidence to why God is bad, but what really happens is something that I did not expect. The movie explains how people pray to God only when there is a need to do it or how they bargain with God. However, God is not interested in any of that. He just wants people to be true believers. True believers do not consist of those that partake in such activities where they pour milk down a stone and waste it or give donations to temples for good wishes. It is hard to explain how great of a movie this is. To really understand how great of a movie this is, I urge you to go watch it. The movie can really change your outlook on religious beliefs.
"Be free from fear. Be fearless and have faith in the divine."~OMG Oh My God
Rowdy Rathore (2012)
The Rowdy Khiladi is back with a bang!
Wow, what is there to say about this movie? It is simply too good. The performances on screen were great and the fresh chemistry between Akshay and Sonakshi were good. This movie has been declared the first Blockbuster of 2012 and not even that it had the highest opening ever for a non-holiday weekend! Just imagine how it would be if it was a holiday weekend!
After a long hiatus of 7 years, Akshay Kumar the original Khiladi and action superstar has returned to do what he does best on screen once more. After the success of several remakes from the South, why not Akshay? Akshay gave one of his best performances of his life in this movie. The one liners and the masaladaar action was great. Akshay Kumar proves that he can still do action and that too better than any of the other actors in Bollywood.
The music from this movie was splendid. What stood out the most was Chamak Challo Chel Chabeeli because it marked the return of Kumar Sanu who gave one too many melodies in the 90's. If only he had more than a verse for the song!
The casting was great! One thing I can appreciate about the movie is the fresh villain casting. Prakash Raj is a great actor, but seeing him as villain in every south remake is kind of a bore. For example: Wanted, Singham, etc... The little girl was cute and adorable. The scenes she had was done full justice too.
The story line was fantastic. It is sad that the double role was short lived, but I must say Akshay did a marvelous job handling both characters, especially Shiva's. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Shiva do action in a comical way and saying his dialogues in such manner too. Vikram Rathore was good too, however, he deserved more screen time or some time with his daughter at the least.
Overall: This movie was mind-blowing! You will definitely enjoy this movie. Do go watch it, it will entertain you to the fullest and is definitely a paisa vasool film.
Desi Boyz (2011)
Awesome wholesome entertainer about reality!
What an amazing film with killer songs. The chemistry between Akshay and John were significant. No doubt Garam Masala was a full out an out comedy where Akshay stole the show, DB was a bit more serious. This film deserves better then what it got, but either way this was far superior to Ra.One. I would like to add that the scene where Akshay was smart talking the White professor in the classroom was brilliant. It was like an add on to his dialogue in Namastey London! It was too good. Worth at the most a one time watch for Akshay haters and this can go down as one of the most underrated film of 2011! The rating of this film is not justified, but none the less this film did well. Do NOT LISTEN TO BAD REVIEWS! Wonderful film for the family.
Ra.One (2011)
SRK feels insecure.
If I could, I would give this 0. this movie is utter garbage. We all know the first 3D movie that was introduced was by Shrish Kunder for Joker starring Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha, but scheduling issues led for this to be released after. SRK must of been insecure and got Ra. One out first. IF SRK waited, this could of been a good movie. Technology is nice and all, but nothing beats real action. All the best to Akshay for Joker 3D! As for this movie, do not see in theatres. Its worthless and a headache. The music must be sensational because of Akon, but it will blow over soon enough. Nothing special. The promos should of been better, so we weren't misled. Anyhow, if you are die hard fans of this actor that claims to be "King Khan", then go see it. Otherwise, side step it.
Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani (2002)
It could of been so much more.
Akshay Kumar and Sunny Deol are the only reasons this movie got a 6 in my view. I am an Akshay fanatic as well. The story line was legit. I feel that if they got rid of a few characters and songs, then the movie would of been a superhit. The person who played the bad guy, I have never seen in a movie before or after. Personally, I think Sunny Deol should of been the bad guy because he has never been a villain and the fact he is a one man army, it would of made this intense. Akshay should of been the brother of Sonu Nigam. And then the rest of the characters should of been moved up. This would of been a treat for the audiences too because we would of seen the He-man and Khiladi against each other. We have seen Akshay and Ajay fight and Akshay and Sunil, but Akshay and Sunny would of been really nice since they are the two main action superstars in modern bollywood!
One less character would not hurt. Oh and Aditya Pancholi should of been replaced with Shah Rukh Khan. SRK would of played the role a lot better and to see him in a different genre then romance would of been pleasant. The music was great, but too many songs. "Roop Salona Tera", "Jaaneman Tu Khoob Hai" were splendid. The other songs were just annoying minus the one between Manisha and the villain. 6/10 for this movie what could of been a so much more!
Thank You (2011)
Laugh Riot!
This was simply a great movie with marvelous comedy. Irfan Khan stole the show and Akshay Kumar was mind blowing. Bobby Deol did a nice job and so did Sunil Shetty. "Main Kisna Hoon" was one of the funny parts of this movie. Also, Munni and Sheila have been bumped with Razia. The song Razia was amazing. People who like comedies will enjoy this. Akshay came back from his bad comedy in "TMK" with "Thank You" as well as Aneez Bazmee coming back from "No Problem". The actresses did well in their parts, Celina Jaitely and Rimi Sen did well. Sonam Kapoor looked beautiful. This was very well done. Personally 10/10. Most people who do not like comedies would rate it as 6/10 (average).
Patiala House (2011)
There should never be an unfulfilled dream.
This is a movie about dreams that has a strong message throughout the whole movie. It does not disappoint for a second. Everyone has dreams that they want to fulfill, but there are always obstacles nonetheless. Gattu, too faces these obstacles.
The story: Gattu is an amazing fast bowler who in his days could get the wicket faster than you can say "wicket". He could not fulfill his career opportunities due to his dad. Ek adhoore sapna re gaya. Watch this movie to see how the story unveils.
Casting: Males: Akshay Kumar is the show stealer. He made every scene worth the while. The tears were genuine as if it was his story and that was heart warming. Rishi Kapoor was a delight to see as Akshay's father. He did an outstanding job as the strict "my way or no way" dad. Armaan Kirmani did justice to the role as the brother. In the beginning scenes where his wife tells him not to help Gattu because one servant is enough, the look Akshay and Armaan gave each other was perfect and genuine. The typical reaction to a real life situation.
Females: Dimple Kapadia's role as the mother was heart melting. The scenes with Gattu were simply amazing. Gattu/Mom hospital scene was one of the show stealers. Anushka Sharma was simply great with the enthusiastic friend.
The others: The rest of the family lost all respect for Gattu for not speaking against their father. I found that a bit annoying. Gattu had only one option, they needed to understand that. When they respected them, it was only after he played again. The family came off as selfish. But that is expected from a strict dad run family.
Music: The album is amazing. Laung De Lashkara and Kyun Main Jagoon stand out the most, while the picturing of Rola Pe Gaya was simply brilliant where they go from a modern generation to that of the older generation, showing the major gap and differences. The differences sadly show how things will never be the same, but still a great song.
This movie can be watched over and over. It was simply amazing. This can surely be added to Akshay Kumars amazing movies that will never get old.
Overall: 10/10
Deewangee (2002)
This deserves a sequel.
This movie was one of Ajay's best performances ever. I do not watch American films, so I do not care about Primal Fear. And as the Darr part, Ajay raised SRK's performance tremendously. Ajay was convincing through his eyes. Akshaye played a convincing lawyer, one of his better roles. Urmila was OK as the actress. The side characters were pretty decent as well. The court room scenes were amazing and well planned out. However, the end of this movie was a total let down to me. A movie like this needs a sequel. The song was sung as a random person walked by covering their face, no one knowing if it was Ajay or not. The movie was a spectacular. One of the best thrillers in Indian cinema. I would suggest this movie to any one who is interested in a good movie.
