Asur: Welcome to Your Dark Side (2020)
Entertaining... but irritating screenplay and characters and flawed writing!
After reading Scoop Whoop's recommendation and 9.3 on IMDB, I subscribed to Voot with high expectations and soon I realized during the 1st 10 minutes that it doesn't deserve a 9.
The most irritating characters are one of the protaganist (Nikhil) and his wife and his ex-girlfriend. He is supposed to be super intelligent, and God he is so dumb. And actually everyone is so dumb, even Arshad Warsi and they don't even know where to look for to solve crimes. Script is flawed. The characters are not believable. The make-up is unbelievable. They tried to make laughs by caricature jokes and characters, but nothing worked and nothing was genuine. It was a very short story, but the writers filled with stuff that adds nothing to the plot or to entertainment. It was just slow for no good reason, no emotion, there is potential depth in the concept, but not in the script. Pathetic acting of everyone, and even Arshad Warsi didn't have any charm in this. We get to see the same side kick character as in every other web series. But even he ain't funny or graceful.
I could binge watch only because of the partial lock down in my city..but I lost my patience in the final episode, it's boring and slow and I had to watch it in 2x.
I might have given it a 6. But minus 1/2 for the over-expectations it promoted and minus 1/2 for still sticking to caricature jokes and characters in these modern days of web series. But at the end of the day if you don't have nothing to do and just kill your time, you can still watch it, as it's gripping.
Poorna (2017)
I watched it for Poorna and Rahul Bose and not disappointed
Dinesh Prakash has already given an accurate review of the movie and shared excellent points.
My first interaction with the movie was it's trailer of course and by knowing that a poor tribal girl reached such feet and from a place around a 100kms from where I live, excited me to watch the movie. Also the trailer was good. Then, I saw Rahul's interview on Jaby Koay's Channel. It was then, I came to know about Rahul and his inspiration behind the movie, his passion and his philosophies about work and life. He seems to be a genuine, humane, concerned and passionate man to me. I have become his fan immediately and added all his movies to my IMDb watch list.
And about the film, it was good for two reasons: because the story is great and inspirational, the story telling is simple and genuine. Possibly due to it's low budget, there were not much intensive action shots of the mountaineering. But, the movie is nevertheless, complete without all that. And I think, the action shots might only extend the run time by another 15-20 minute and then the real emotion may get diluted in the audience.
Coming to technical aspects from an audience point of view:
Music: Very subtle and good
Cinematography: Every scene is exactly like what it's in the real world. Generally, the places we see outside in the real world, when seen in movies, we find some change in it and are not really convincing. But in this movie, I don't know why, each scene is exactly the way it appears in the real world.
Screenplay: No experiments done. Basic and decent story telling.
Overall, I think the film might not be so great speaking artistically or technically. But, it has got an accurate depiction of the real world and that's very interesting and convincing to an audience like me.
I wish Rahul Bose to keep making such good films. And Poorna and Anand Kumar to keep going and to have bright future.
D for Dopidi (2013)
A very good entertaining but far underrated movie
I am glad Tollywood has found another good writer and director - Siraj Kalla. I don't know anything about him before, but his direction is no way like a rookie. He is almost sitting next to the top directors in my opinion.
And the movie will give you exactly what you are expecting - a crime comedy and less thriller. I found more pluses than minuses.
Plus Points:
1. The plot was very well executed. And while watching, I found it completely reasonable and didn't find any senseless or illogical scenes or the script itself. On zooming you may find some loopholes, but is very much unnecessary.
2. Performances of all the actors (even the smallest role) - you will not be disappointed or bored with any actor/actress in the movie.
3. Screenplay - Perfect screenplay and I felt almost like watching a big film.
4. Dialogues - The dialogues feel natural and also there is humor in almost every dialogue. If you like the scripting style of Venkatadri Express, Gunderjari Gallanthayinde etc., you will also like this as this belongs to that category.
5. Cinematography - Awesome cinematography by Lucasz. And should be mentioned how well he showed even the small portions of the movie - village scenes.
6. Music and Background score - No complaints and very perfect.
7. Less songs - No meaningless and unnecessary duets.
8. No separate comedy track or no Brahmanandam or Ali- As the main script itself is humorous, there is no need for separate comedy track and hence no deviation from the actual plot.
9. Thanikella Bharani - Contrary to my above point, there is actually a small side track (hardly 10 min) with Thanikella Bharani, but it should not be considered as one as he is the part of the plot and his story is also needed. And he brought some glorious presence in the movie.
10. Narration by Nani - Who won't like Nani's voice and his narration? His narration added much joy to the movie.
11. Climax - The climax is single pointed and hence predictable but the writer surprisingly gave a genius touch and added some uniqueness in it.
12. Ending promo song - Best way to leave the theater while watching the promo song and small steps from Nani and the other heroes.
Minus Points:
1. Chevulapilli role - Not exactly a minus point. I found his performance similar to usual Tagubothu Ramesh performance. It would have been better if he showed much difference. Of course, it's a very difficult task as all the possible drunkard shades were already invaded by MS Narayana and Ramesh.
2. No overwhelming, spell bounding or magical scenes. Hence, the movie is easily forgettable and it only serves entertainment for those 2 hours.
3. For usual watchers of Mass Masala and some strong comedy entertainers, you may find this movie boring as you won't laugh breaking your stomach or no hero heroine romance.
4. No change of pace. From my previous experiences with other movies, I found usually a change of pace add more stars to the movie. This movie almost runs in a single pace and hence, you will be excited for first few minutes and then you will be used to it and will find less exciting. But having suspense in the plot compensated a little.
I wish good luck to all the cast and crew. Thanks for giving us a good movie.
Temper (2015)
Awful movie with bad influence on youth
First of all, I don't understand how it became the block buster and one of the highest grosser for NTR.
I tried very hard to like it, but it's just a commercial movie with completely false disguise of having a moral end.
The hero character in this movie is bad at first, who turns out to be good in the climax, but the character is so much evil (worst) and is not at all eligible to be idolized at the end. That's one major disgusting thing about this movie.
The screenplay is such that the audience are meant to enjoy the wickedness of the hero.
I had also tried to enjoy the comedy at least, but it is again just irritatingly heavy shouting, insulting and nothing delightful.
I can not give this movie more than a star cause this movie only have negative impacts and nothing positive at all.
The movies like Neninthe, Idiot, Amma Nanna Tamilammay etc from PJ were so good that this movie seems to be just a deceitful attempt from the director who is desperate for a hit movie and this defame his sincerity in movie making.
