De slag om de Schelde (2020)
So we won't forget this battle
This is good. Well done actors, writers, cameramen, director and crew. Special credit for the choice of filming locations. Incredible, a big plus in this movie. I read somewhere the characters lack development. I don't agree, just pay attention to Marinus played by Gijs Blom (outstanding performance). It's not a movie with a lot of dialogue. Not necessary, the story and history speak for itself. The English title says it all, it's indeed a forgotten battle...
Ferry (2021)
Ok.., not far fom good
Im not disappointed. That's something new for me with the few dutch movies i've seen in recent years. I wouldn't have watched this if it wasn't for the excellent series Undercover. Frank Lammers is clearly at his best, i wonder though if he can give the same level of performance in other roles. Elise Schaap is a great actress. Elise plays a naive small town girl fom Brabant. Though Elise is not from Brabant, as Danielle in the movie she speaks the accent. That's admirable but as a native Brabander i hear her trying and it's not ..eh..native. Huub Stapel playing a druglord from Amsterdam trying hard to insert an Amsterdam accent wasn't convincing at all. So Eline and Frank made the movie. They connect very well. The story is thin, it is what it is with hardly any full lines let alone a deep conversation. Basically everything is said with a few words. But that's ok, it suits this movie and the characters. Hopefully there will be a next part and maybe, if possible with this story and these characters, a bit more depth and surprise elements,...
Knightfall (2017)
it's a bit silly
While writing im still watching this show and i don't know why. Maybe because of a lack of new gems for me at this time. Until i found something better i will continue, i guess. That said, Knightfall is a bit silly. It tries very hard to be groundbreaking but it's not. It has all the clichés we've seen before in disappointing historical drama. I never have the feeling of watching something special. Like Barbaren on Netflix this show somehow manages t not drag you into history. Why? The storyline is flat and very basic. The usual intrigues, heroism and lovestory's seem to matter more than an actual depiction of the historic timeframe. The bad guy, the hero, the princess and even a seer in ep. 2! Maybe the makers watched a bit of Vikings after all. They should have watched more. Many scenes and plottwists are predicatable not to say laughable. It could have been good, if they made an effort, Templars speak into the imagination. That's why I did some extra refreshing research on wikipedia about the templars and crusades. That was interesting. This serie is not.
