I finished seeing this movie at 2am. So I need not say it gave me quite a fright. Stanley Kubrick once again proved his inimitable mastery at film making with this film. Even though the movie deals primarily with paranoia and clairvoyance, it also makes subtle references to child abuse.
Jack Nicholson never ceases to amaze us. His portrayal of the insane father is one of the backbones of the movie. The slow build-up of the plot showing ghastly forebodings ensures that the audience stays glued to the screen till the end.
Many of the scenes in the movie like the outburst of blood from the lift, and Jack's insane smile through the split open door lingers in your mind long after the movie is finished.
The Shining is clearly horror films at there frightening best.
