It (2017)
Outstanding!
Absolutely brilliant remake of this Stephen King classic. Right from the outset, IT will have you in the edge of your seat with all its suspense and toe-curling scenes. The visual effects are outstanding for a horror film. The new portrayal of Pennywise the Dancing Clown makes the character more scary and mysterious than the previous 1990 portrayal. A must watch film for any horror fan!
Come Fly with Me (2010)
Matt Lucas and David Waliams do it again!
Well what can I say, A true example of British Comedy.
I have decided to wait until the end of the series to give a true reading of how good or bad the series was (maybe the British Press should have gave it the same slack).
What I enjoyed about the series is Lucas and Waliams's no-fear approach to portraying stereotypes, something I believe comedians have been put off doing due to the rise of political correctness in the UK. You have Precious, an African Christian who always finds an excuse to not come into work, Ian Foot, A patriotic immigration who sees every foreigner as a threat and Judith and Peter Surname, a retired couple who always have "A holiday from HELL!". Then there's a spoof of the airline industry itself. Flylo, a low-cost airline owned by Greek etrepuneur Oma baba (a spoof of easyjet and Stelios). Irish airline and Flylo rival, Our lady Air (spoof of Ryanair)and flag carrier Great British Air.
I think the series is one of those unique shows, like Little Britain, that makes you go "That is just me/us." It is a side-splitting show that makes fantastic television and great entertainment. It is strong enough to be an adults show yet mild enough for 10 years+. A truly outstanding show. Well done BBC.
On Jan 28th, Come fly with me was re-commissioned for a second series. The DVD of the first series is out in March 2011.
Gulliver's Travels (2010)
Jack Black-Never fails to disappoint!
After reading mixed reviews on the latest Hollywood version of the popular children's story "Gulivers Travels", I was unsure what to expect. I went to the cinema hoping to watch "Meet the parents-Little Fockers" before realising it had sold out. I reluctantly chose this film over the "The King's Speech" not really expecting much from the film. This is the decision that I will never regret.
The film starts off In typical children's fashion with a stop-motion new york city (Yes, If this was a stop motion film, even the great comic actors such as Black couldn't save it), but quickly makes the transition into a live-action format and into the life of Mr. Guliver (Jack Black), a mail room worker who has held the same job for 10 years without promotion. He employs a young man to work with him who ,during Guliver's tour of the offices upstairs, gets promoted within his first day thus making him the boss of the very man who gave him the job just the day before. He says to Guliver that the only reason he never gets moved up is because he never puts himself out there to those higher-up.
Guliver has a crush on the travel editor of the New York Tribune, Darcy, that after 5 years leads him to being assigned on a trip to the Bermuda triangle... By mistake! After falling asleep on his speed boat into the triangle storms form and his passes out to wake up on the island of Lilliput, an island governed by little people. There, he is the giant hero who defeats the armada that tries to invade.
After finding the ship he sailed there on, he finds Darcy who is furious that he copied the assignment that got him the trip off an internet website. She forgives and they " Live happily ever after" and Lilliput's invaders are defeated.
This film won't disappoint. It is a harmless love story coupled with a comical storyline that shall not fail to be a side-splitting adventure for all the family.
Monsters, Inc. (2001)
"There is only one word to describe this film, and thats "Brilliant"" A Must See
There is only one word to describe this film, and thats "Brilliant". I was searching through my old VHS collection when I found this movie. I just forgot how good it actually was. The Toy Story soon to be" trilogy is better, but yet to me nothing animated will enter that league as thats timeless, but this film is certainly a fresh idea. The film is well written and appealing to its target audience. It would be great if there was a sequel about what happened after Laugh power took over. To be honest, if I could put my top five pixar films in order it would go 1.Toy Story/Toy Story 2 2."Monster inc" and 3.Wall-E.
Overall: Despite me watching this film for the first time in 7 years on a worn down video tape, it did not spoil the quality of the film. I would recommend it to any Toy story fan out there for something different, if they haven't already watched this phenomenon. It would look Fantastic in 1080p High Def on a shiny new blu-ray disc, partly the reason why i'm upgrading to blu-ray soon. A must see
Lesbian Vampire Killers (2009)
Another Rip-off British Comedy
Amongst my friends I am sometimes considered a harsh critic, but I think I'm just very accurate. It only takes one look at the overall reviews for this movie to know that there is method in my madness. I watched this film in HD on my mates Sky+HD box. I must admit the picture was impressive, but that does not hide that painful truth that this move is trash. The idea of two blokes on a lads hiking holiday in search for women may sound like the ordinary plot for a comedy, but this really doesn't pull it off. This movie is WEAK, POORLY WRITTEN and NOT THE SIDE SPLITTING COMEDY THAT I EXPECTED. However,in spite of this, this film does provide some cheap chuckles (Note how I use chuckle not laugh) in response to some of the cheap jokes.
Overall: If your looking for a comedy that will leave you in stitches, move along nothing to see hear... But if your one of those types that still think the "S" word is funny and you still laugh at old mans jokes then this is for you
Alice in Wonderland (2010)
Okay, decent. 3-D was terrible
Watched this film In 3-D at Local Cinema. i have to say, compared to all the Disney Films I have watched and owned (Both VHS and DVD), This film is probably the worst.
The Real-D 3D Technoligy really did not work as most of the film seemed to be in 2D.
However, I did enjoy most of the film but really as Disney films are supposed humorous and I didn't really laugh a lot during this Movie.
I don't think that I'll be buying this movie on Blu-ray/DVD anytime soon, but I will certainly recommend but not for 3d viewing.
Overall, this film was disappointment of a Disney film but not quite an outright disaster.
