Romantic

Watched it on Amazon and though it was well put together as far as production value. The storyline is very romantic and well thought through. Loved the female lead!

One of my favorite time-loop movies of all time
19 October 2018
I watched The House at the End fo Time several years ago and it has prompted me to seek out more titles that have such a skillfully woven story arc that doesn't let go after you're done watching. I came across a few, and interestingly enough, most were produced in Spanish speaking countries.

What makes this film stand out even more in its genre, is its atmospheric cinematography. I would watch it again and again just for its immersive intrinsic qualities.

Very well written, directed and shot.

Looking forward to more work from Alejandro Hidalgo.

Sam Elliott delivers the performance of his lifetime
24 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I had an opportunity to watch the film during its premiere at Sundance. Beautifully shot: romantic spans of ocean and countryside were breathtaking. Sam Elliott carried the film from the start to the very end. As the director had stated during the Q&A, if Sam refused for whatever reason to do this role, there wouldn't be this film.

Very emotional narrative. Depressing at times, but cathartic overall. It's a slow paced exploration of life, rejection, denial, depression, and ultimately death. The perception of death is a big theme in The Hero. Driven by a power poem by Edna St. Vincent Millay - 'Conscientious Objector': "I shall die, but that is all that I shall do for Death."

Great film for audience that enjoys movies like: "21 Grams", "Manchester by the Sea", and "The Hours".

Jacob's Ladder (I) (1990)

A melancholic horror
24 July 2016
Jacob's Ladder is a very rare psychological exploration of the human mind under extreme stress. A film that gets under your skin and stays with you for years after watching it. What's the secret formula? How were the creators able to accomplish such a smart movie that touches you to the bottom of your soul? I strongly believe the subliminal messages conveyed through very abstract and surreal imagery, as well as juxtaposing specific emotional moods - was what made it so impactful. The story itself is very moving and not for the light hearted. Can't really label it as a horror, thriller, or a drama. It's so unique that it deserves its own category: perhaps something like: Melancholic Horror. The story arc is poetic and the cinematography is extremely immersive. Not many other works came close to achieving this same sense of perpetual thought and reflection. Definitely a classic to be watched by the generations.
