Lucy (2014)
Awful film about how man becomes god
Morgan Freeman always seems to be playing the part of God Almighty. A part for which he is under qualified to play. In this movie, he plays the role of a university professor and again he is under qualified to play even this part spouting nonsense pseudo science and new age nonsense about the human brain.
Scarlett Johansson portrays a blonde bimbo whose dodgy boyfriend sends her in as his replacement delivery a package to the boss of a criminal cartel.
This must have been normal for miss Johanson considering that in real life she doesn't mind being the public face of a disreputable company that builds its factories on illegally occupied land. And just like real life a bundle of notes is stuffed into her grubby bra to help her carry out her decision.
The basic premise of the film is that a Korean drug cartel have manufactured an artificial recreational drug for the youth of West and Scarlett/Lucy is ann unwilling drugs mule.
However the contents seep into her stomach in a brutal attack by her Korean prisoners which causes the package to leak and in the process gives her superhuman knowledge strength and powers.
I'm surprised they didn't get Morgan Freeman to do the part of Lucy as she revels in her Godlike powers through out the film.
weak plots and story lines; 1. Korean criminal cartels manufacturing intelligence enhancing drugs for club ravers instead of the usual ones that mash their brains in.
2. Guy with British accent playing the baddys henchman.
3. Lucy does not die despite having a massive dose that is millions of times over the limit.
4. Drug miraculously allows Lucy to travel back in time and meet a dodgy looking ape that is our ancestor. And then she goes back even further in time to witness the beginning of creation. I'm surprised the film makers stopped there. I was expecting to see her supping tea and biscuits with the Angels and discussing lengthy philosophical matters.
5.Why does the cartel boss not give up chasing Lucy right to the end until a bullet finally puts him out of his misery? 6.Lucy transforms herself into a computer and then into a USB stick...neat trick.
6. Lucy drives like a maniac in Paris not caring about killing innocent people. When asked by the french policeman why the disregard she replies people don't really die anyway. She might have picked up this attitude in Israel a country she really admires.
Too awful to watch.
Edge of Tomorrow (2014)
so awful you'll watch it again
Considering the movie has been constructed on a Groundhog Day theme it fails to deliver similar results. Why are the aliens allowing time to be manipulated by such a feeble enemy as mankind? Why would an advanced civilisation that can manipulate time have such an Achilles heel that allows a puny enemy to overcome it through the endeavours of one single human being?
Wheras Groundhog Days repetitive scenes work because of its simplicity, the same is not true of EOT. There is too much action going on and distractions everywhere for you to truly enjoy or engage with the repetitive scenes.
The Bag Man (2014)
"isreali" the worst movie I have EVER seen (and I've seen a lot of movies)
After watching this movie I felt like I'd been the victim of a gangbang. In the start of the movie Deniro is offering Cusack a dangerous job of bringing a bag to a seedy motel in exchange for lots of cash. And thats the whole premise of the film."just don't looook in the bag," are Deniro's special instructions.
About three minutes into the film Cusack has the bag and is at the motel. And then the rest of the film is about him not looking in the bag and protecting it from people who want to look into the bag.
There is so much needless violence and nonsensical plot twists. Why does Cusack casually kill 2 cops in the adjoining room? Why does cusack need to kill the dwarf and the pimp? Why does Cusack need to kill the poor guy who runs the motel? Why does Cusack need to kill the three redneck cops? Why does Cusack need to kill Deniro and his goon?
More annoying than this is when Cusack asks the exotic lookingfemale lead "Are you from Israel?" Why? What relevance has this to the plot? Her bizarre answer "I'm not from Israel but I love Israel," is repeated about six times? Why? 😲😖 In the end of the movie after the Israeli lover helps murder Deniro Cusack proudly says to her "youre one tough hebrew."
I really really wish I had never ever seen this film.
American Hustle (2013)
a plot that moves at a snails pace
Everyone knows Bale bulked up for the role and right from the very start we get a flash of his portly midriff and balding head. And once you've seen that it goes downhill faster than a car left without its handbrakes on.
Despite their obvious talents the actors felt and looked one dimensional and underdeveloped. There are many absurd moments; take for example Bradley Coopers relationship with his boss. Despite inflicting serious bodily harm on his boss when he refuses to sanction his increasingly unreasonable demands, he not only gets away with it but in a disciplinary meeting he is actually praised for his actions.
Two hours is too long for this sloppy movie.
2012: Supernova (2009)
Tired Old Clichés Served Cold
Its three days to the end of the world and the planet is about to be blasted into eternal oblivion. Earth has never had to deal with such a cataclysmic event before and therefore we are lucky enough to have a brave Nasa scientist at the helm, a man who seems to make arbitrary decisions about the lives of 7 billion people without even once consulting the elected heads of State's.
No 'end of the world' movie would be complete without its baddies and this movie has two for the price of one. If the supernova explosion that is threatening to blow up our solar system (Poor planet Pluto gets it in the neck quite early on)isn't bad enough the protagonist also has to deal with terrorists wearing "Palestinian scarves" who appear out of nowhere and try to shoot dead the soon to be Saviour of Humanity and his family. as far as baddies go theyr'e not very powerful as a few minutes later they are both dead. With blood spurting out of their bullet ridden bodies the Palestinian Scarf wearers are quickly despatched by the hero's team who manage to arrive in the nick of time. Why they were included in this movie? What purpose did they serve?
By labouring to associate the Palestinian scarf (and those who wear it)with mindless criminality or terrorism- the film makers succeeds in putting the viewer off with pointless zionist propaganda. It seems that the director wanted people to think 'Hey! These people are horrible because even though its the end of the world and our brave Messiah is single handedly trying to save the world (not to mention their sorry ass's) and these guys are so evil they don't give up."
Unfortunately the racist clichés don't stop there. The two sidekicks of the hero (who spend a lot of time unnecessarily pushing flashing buttons in a control room) happen to be an uptight initially hostile Chinese woman ("Peoples Republic of China," she tartly corrects the hero) and a drunken Russian who declares he is from "The Peoples Republic of Vodka." Hmm. Saving the world is going to be hard work.
The only real hero in all this is the brave viewer who manages to sit through 90 minutes of drivel and aviods a massive brain haemorrhage.
