Meet the Robinsons (2007)
An Underrated-Instant Classic
This movie in incredibly underrated. I found the previews a little annoying what with the over-advertising scene of the small-role dinosaur and was forced to see it at a birthday party and a fell in love! It had me laughing out loud and that's a lot to say for a teenager watching a cartoon with friends (I personally love Disney, but you get my point). The plot was really well planned out while also being understandable to children. The characters were all so lovable and the animation was flawless. A must see! It just made me feel little again and not like I was watching the film, but apart of it. Just makes you feel happy inside. What's not to like?
Wendy and Lucy (2008)
A Load of Crap
A total utter waste of time. This is the kind of movie that only a movie critic can love. It's obviously intended toward a certain audience and I was excited to watch because of this since I normally like these independent-type films. In other words, don't think this is coming from a raving, idiot action movie goer there for no plot and all violence. Not at all. This movie is the type of ludicrous that Hollywood always wants to shove down us "normal people's" throat. It's supposed to be 'moving' and 'realistic.' Bluntly, it's a depressing load of crap. I see they are trying to express that real life can be hard. No duh. We all know that-thanks for the update oh so wise Kelly Reichardt. It's a very tedious film where we watch as Wendy goes through her routine like a "normal person." Oh, how I feel I can relate to her because she brushes her teeth and is lacking cash. The plot is missing value. A student in middle school even knows that there are rising and falling points in a story. This one is just a boring, straight line. No one is nice to Wendy but one man whose help isn't even enough for her. Movies are supposed to take us away from reality-that's why we watch them. And sure, you can say 'well, there aren't happy endings in real life,' but it's a lack of effort more than a large dose of reality. It just falls flat. There is no meaning or point-it's just there like a day in anyone's life. I feel no sympathy for this emotionless heroine. Not even worth trying to watch. Or writing this review for that matter.
Imagine That (2009)
Pretty Good
I was surprised actually. Eddie Murphy always seems to create those "family fun-way-to-cliché" type movies. And yet-I liked this one. And yes- it was cliché, but it was cute and funny. The little girl was quite the little actress as well! The soundtrack was also all Beatles so what's not to like? Though I do not like the updated versions they chose, it added a lot to the flick. The'bad guy' or I suppose antagonist is an overly stereotyped Native American, but come on people-don't be so defensive. Besides, we find out later that he is a very small percent of Indian and is, in fact, just a jerk. It had moral value and sweet moments. Worth a rental I'd say.
