Moonlight Sonata (2009)
Absolutely superb!
Moonlight Sonata is absolutely first class! And it's rare for me to use a term like this describing a new movie. Even my girl friend, who generally has rather different film tastes than mine, completely agrees. Do yourself a favor: SEE THIS FILM! Sonata seems to have everything: a great psychological thriller with an intricate plot that keeps you guessing, plenty of suspense, wonderful acting, subtle and inspired directing, and beautiful cinematography flawlessly edited, all set in gorgeous Northern California. These are characters and events you never forget. But it is the wonderful interweaving and exploration of counterpoint themes—a tragic tale linked to ambiguity surrounding concepts like "good" and "evil", "revenge and atonement"—that makes the film so engrossing. Kayalar (the writer and director) has combined all this in a stunning piece of film making. If ever a film deserved to be released to theaters generally, this is it. Outstanding films tend to be both critically and commercially appealing, but it takes a truly creative director to merge these two elements successfully. Kayalar is a rare example of a film director that knows how to do both. He's done it here. Moonlight Sonata stands an excellent chance of becoming a true film classic. Congratulations on accomplishing the near impossible. We loved the film!
