Love Is Blind: Meet Me at the Altar (2024)
I think that I want...
...to marry Clay's mom! (laughing) Now I have to write another 500 characters about this, and I have no idea what I'll say, but she was awesome - so calm, so collected, such a strong woman, and she told it like it was (to his dad). I just kind of wish she'd poured it on to him a little more strongly. Why do we have to write so many characters about this???
They sure led us down the garden path with this one - everything leading up to it made it look like Clay was all in, but no! That said, it was always all about him, and he always talked about what she did for him, what he wanted, not about his admiration for her - not really. OK, I'm out of characters, so I'm out.
Love Is Blind: What Could Have Been (2024)
See my review from Episode 6...
...where I say that Chelsea, that poor thing, needs some medication to treat her anxiety and depression: "I feel sick, I'm gonna puke, do you love me, do you still love me", and well as her inability to truly hear what Jimmy is saying. The fact that she won't let him finish a sentence is also a problem - not that she would believe what he says anyway, because her perception is skewed by depression. I have to come up with another couple of hundred characters to say about this, so I will say that I feel sooo badly for her, and also for Jimmy (since he doesn't know what's going on, really). I hope they can figure this out.
Love Is Blind: Secret Rendezvous (2024)
It's too bad that Laura thinks...
That she's Jeramy's mother. I need to come up with another 533 words to say about this, and there are not a lot of other ways to say it, so: Let me tell you, Laura: you do NOT get to choose what someone else wears. You get to say 'I'm not a fan', and then he gets to choose, and then you get to say 'I'm still not a fan, to the point that I can't tolerate this', and you get to leave. Yeah, if you want to have to later say 'I left because I didn't like his shirts', then that's on you. OR you could ask yourself, 'why do I not like his shirts?' and then continue and ask yourself 'and why is (whatever you figure out) a problem for me?' You aren't the only one who knows the 'right way'for things to be done. You only get to choose for yourself.
Love Is Blind: Feeling Uncomfy (2024)
This was painful to watch because...
... we need to get Chelsea some antidepressants to treat her anxiety ("I feel like I'm gonna puke!") and her insecurities ("do you love me? Do you still love me?"). Jimmy can tell her that he loves her until his lips fall off, and as long as her perception is skewed because of depression, she will never fully feel it or accept it. I wanted to speed through it or skip it entirely because it was so painful to watch. Watching the next episode is just more of the same: she is insecure about this, or about that, or about something he said, or about something he didn't say, and as long as she is experiencing this (which I see as depression), it will never be enough.
***I have just come back to this after watching the second to last episode (no further spoilers here) and will say all this (above) again: nothing will ever be enough for her until she treats her anxiety/depression.
Love Is Blind: First Class Love (2023)
Some of this is so hard to watch....
I'm watching this and just shaking my head... I just want to yell at Milton, "RUN! RUN! Get out while you can!!!" Lydia is SO controlling, so impatient and intolerant of anyone else's way of doing things. That woman needs some very pointed therapy before she gets into any relationship. And Izzy --> RUN! RUN! Get out while you can! Stacy is arrogant, really - she was that way while they were in the pods, with the other women. She doesn't listen well, obviously after this episode, and doesn't seem to know how to have a conversation without giving ultimatums; these are not good signs for a marriage. On the other hand, Izzy is a lovely man, open emotionally, patient and kind, and should be with someone who is way more like him.
I think that, after 5 seasons and pretty much nobody still married, we should conclude that love is NOT blind, except in a perfect world, which we don't have.
The Morning Show: Fever (2021)
I LOVED this episode.
Yes, it was pretty much about Jennifer Aniston - oh wait, I mean Alex Levy - telling us her truth about what it's like to be ogled and followed and judged and evaluated by people who don't even know her, and I thought it was awesome. Yes, I agree that she should have done less with hair and makeup, while battling a brutal virus, but the character is on TV every day and it would be natural for her to get dressed up before the broadcast; even so, if she was >that sick<, she shouldn't have looked so good. (Maybe I'm just jealous!). But the content was great, and her range of acting was also great.
Suits (2011)
I'm wondering if there is a quota...
I am rewatching this, along with the rest of the world, and started wondering whether they have a quota for how many times they say 'god damn' per episode. I'm only wondering about this because it shows up randomly and in sort of awkward places, like they had to throw in a certain number to meet the quota.
I offer this with my tongue firmly in cheek. Anyone else?
Also, since I need another 206 characters, I will say that it's so interesting now to watch Meghan Markle, knowing how her life has changed in the interim (and in a way that I think is great). Also - I wish we'd had more of Mike Ross being a kickass lawyer who came up with amazing ideas, and less of everyone in the office constantly bickering with each other. Minimum character limit met!
Next in Fashion: Wear The Earth (2023)
Before the judges criticize...
...I wish they'd remember that the designers only have 10 or 12 HOURS to make the whole outfit! I just watched episode 2 of season 2, where the teams made 4 looks. They kept criticizing that the cage holding up one of the skirts was so unattractive and distracting, and if I were the contestant, I'd be saying I ONLY HAD ONE DAY TO MAKE THIS! I continue to be frustrated that they're expecting runway-ready, couture looks to be made in such a short time. (In episode 1 of this season, they wanted something fit for royalty - in one day. Seriously?) This review has to be another 22 characters, so I'll just...
Love Is Blind: After the Altar: The Party Is Just Getting Started (2023)
Oh, the drama....
Why oh why does there have to be so much draaaammmaaaaa??? I think 1. (most importantly) Zay's interpretation of Cole's behavior has infected everybody's opinion of him and 2. (almost as important) Zay needs to have more therapy and get over herself. Cole is more honest than anybody there. (This is reminding me a lot of the false and unfair drama about Harry and Meghan; picture my eyes rolling). Alexa needs a stylist and Colleen should just end it with Matt; he's way too self-centered. Very few people know what's important in a marriage until they're already in it, and some never figure it out. The concept for the show is good, but the execution could be way better (like, have therapists available!).
New Amsterdam: The Blues (2019)
The show is great, but this Adderall storyline?
This is just WRONG. Yes, Adderall can help you stay awake, but it isn't *speed*. Adderall is not addictive, as it is water-soluble (water-based) and is out of the system in about 8 hours. I have taken it for over 25 years, and it helps one's brain stay *awake* and focused. Too much will generally make you more sleepy than speedy. I hate seeing this characterization of Adderall, which is a highly effective medication which helps thousands of us live productive lives. And AD/HD is a legitimate diagnosis which is not a choice but which is a chemical imbalance in the brain that causes the associated behaviors. It is entirely irresponsible of a show and its writers to show this kind of a storyline.
Dateline NBC: The Life and Death of Princess Diana (2020)
I thought it might be more sympathetic to her...
...but what a terrible shame that Penny Junor was chosen as their 'expert' on Diana. Ms. Junor has always been critical of Diana, and her polite demeanor did not mask her real opinion of Diana as, at heart, a pathetic disappointment to the Royal Family. The language she used throughout showed the thinly veiled contempt in which she held Diana: "Diana just fell apart", said not with any sympathy or understanding, but in the same tone as she might have said "She just wasn't up to the job" instead of "Yes, any young woman who thought she was marrying for love, and so publicly, and then found out about the other woman and the accompanying humiliation, would have reacted similarly". I am only 18 minutes in, and I will finish it, but it is sadly just the same sexist nonsense as usual. Also, as always, I beg Andrea Canning to find another cadence for her sentences, as I get tired of hearing everything said with exactly the same intonation every time.
Love Is Blind: The Reunion (2022)
Like watching a train wreck - just can't drive by it.
Reunion episode. Geez. Zanab must just be so insecure, because all I saw was Cole complimenting her and trying to be fun and playful, and *completely open*. She twisted everything he said, everything, which is understandable because she interrupted and talked over him *every time he spoke*, so of course she didn't know what he was saying because she didn't give him a chance to say it! She just made assumptions and ran with them.
Someone please tell Alexa that outlining her lips with a darker color just makes her look like she has a mustache.
Nancy was beautiful and articulate and composed and confident. Bartise made a great point about his sex life not being anybody else's business; the women sure did gang up on him.
I continue to be troubled by Matt's treatment of Colleen. He clearly, during the season, has both anger and control issues, and the way he sat through this episode, practically on top of her and all around her, very clearly showed control and jealousy just waiting to happen. Hopefully she'll get that soon - and I wonder how often she's had to talk him down already about routine daily things - and get out while she can.
Other than that I have no opinions.
The Crown: Queen Victoria Syndrome (2022)
Elizabeth Debicki makes a GREAT Diana, but...
... she really overdoes the 'head down, eyes up' look. Her voice is really good, though, as Diana. Also, Dominic West, while a lovely actor, is not a good Charles because he is not petulant enough; he actually has a very genuine smile, while we rarely see that from Chuck. :-) Chuck - oh sorry, King Chuck - is always self-pitying and probably only smiles at Camilla as far as we have ever seen; it's mostly self-pity and resentment that we see from him, hence my call of 'petulant'. I don't know why my review requires so many more words, but I'll fill it up with this so I can post it for your enjoyment.
Making the Cut: Festival Wear (2022)
The producers are losing track of their priorities
I watch this show to see new designers make great clothes in their own styles. For the life of me I cannot figure out why they are supposed to be able to do this in such a limited amount of time. (I'm sure I've made the same comments in the past on Project Runway). This episode took it to a new low: TWO outfits (ok, "looks" :::eye roll:::) in only SEVEN HOURS. We know the designers are tired, frustrated, away from home and their usual rhythms, and even when they try and fail to do this impossible task, they get yelled at! SO wrong. Is this the Jeremy show? Is it all about HIM and his hurt feewings? (Elmer Fudd says hi). Someone needs to tell him to get a grip and act like an adult.
And give the designers TIME! I know, I know, time is money and all that. But how else are we - and the judges - to be able to really see what each designer is about, and is capable of? I miss the early days of PR, when we got to see the designers' process, the clothes as they took shape, and really share the entire experience.
20/20: The Barefoot Witness (2022)
I have just cancelled my automatic recording of this show.
Oh dear God in heaven! Everybody is soooo serious, everything moves soooo slowly, everything is repeated soooo manyyyyy tiiiiimes! And Deborah Roberts - look at the camera! I know it's very stylish right now in news circles to look somewhere else, and I think it is ridiculous. Are you talking to me?? Then look at me! Are you reporting this story for some mystery person in the room with you? No, so stop looking elsewhere. This two hour story, which dragged along - and was pretty easily solved from the get-go - could have been done quite nicely in just one hour. I would rather watch a thousand reruns of Dateline than watch one more episode of this. I have always thought 20/20 was a really good show, but I'm over it now.
Cobra Kai: Taikai (2022)
I love this show! ~ but about Sam's nails...
When Sam got out of the Uber and looked at her phone, her manicure looked like it was lit from the inside! Very cool. Was that just the lighting, or is there a kind of manicure that I don't know about?
I agree with the reviewer who said that the show became a soap opera, but I think that is almost over now - the pointless and random group fights seem to be gone, and I think Season 5 will hopefully move back to mainly being about karate. (Will there be more seasons? I haven't kept up on that).
Both my sons competed in karate, and it is sad to say that there really are dojos who engage in that kind of unfair fighting.
Love Is Blind: After the Altar: The Future Looks Bright (2022)
Spoilers ahead
I have had such mixed feelings while watching this series: like the rest of us, the members of the cast seem to have had no idea what they are looking for, or what constitutes real and true love. Watching people get engaged after knowing each other for such a short time was kind of painful; I don't think there was even one couple that appeared to be well-matched. At the end of the episode, I was not surprised to see that the two featured couples had ended their marriages; one couple was completely ill-suited for each other, and in the other couple, the wife acted like she was the only one who knew how their marriage should be conducted (although the husband did have a lot of adjustments to make himself). And of course when you get a bunch of women together, especially in close quarters, there *will* be drama (sigh).
The idea that love is blind is a great one, and something to which we should perhaps aspire. But this evidently is not the way to prove it.
The Lincoln Lawyer (2022)
The show is GREAT, but for the life of me...
...I cannot figure out why they cast an actor - a fine actor, to be sure - who was born and raised in Mexico and has a definite accent, to play a guy born and raised in Los Angeles! As a southern Californian, the accent stands out to me and is jarring. Having read ALL of these books (H. Bosch and M. Haller) Mickey should not have this accent.
Love Is Blind: The Weddings (2022)
The show only gets 4 stars, but Salvatore...
...gets 10. I think I'd like to marry Sal. (Picture me smiling). He's beautiful, he's kind, he's considerate, he has great communication skills, and he has wonderful musicality. What's to not love?!
Bridgerton: The Choice (2022)
I'm surprised that the bride...
...wore white! White only became customary for a bride after Queen Victoria wore it for her wedding to Albert later that century. Until then, women chose dresses in whatever color they liked.
A Castle for Christmas (2021)
This Grinch says: completely forgettable.
I knew that it would be predictable, but really? Girl meets boy, they argue. They fall in love, all is good for a day. They argue over nothing, she leaves, he comes after her, they live happily ever after. Yes, sometimes that formula works, but this was just soooo predictable! There didn't seem to be any actual connection between the two main characters, either.
On the other hand, it was a wonderful reminder of the beauty and charm of Scotland, so watch it if for no other reason than to see a beautiful country.
LuLaRich (2021)
That DeAnne chick...
The founder, DeAnne, comes across as a not really bright (business)woman. Yes, she had the idea, yes, she worked with her husband to start the company, whatever. When she was being deposed, though, "uh, I don't really know", "um, I can't remember" - I mean, she didn't even know the address of their office! I can imagine her as someone who got 1) in over her abilities, 2) caught up in the hype, 3) started to believe the hype, and 4) got tired of the business part and was over it.
Her husband, OTOH, tells himself he's doing it to empower women, give people the chance to build a business (aka: pull yourself up by your bootstraps), blah blah blah, but really just liked the adoration of the crowds, the spotlight, and most of all, the big money. I see him as a typical republican who says "I got mine, and if you want some, get your own"; no sharing of all the excess with anyone else. The saddest part of the story, though, is all the women who lost out big time.
I have been involved in several multi-level marketing companies, and while none of them were that lucrative, I had good experiences at all of them.
La cocinera de Castamar: Donde no llega la luz (2021)
Is it possible for her to be more vapid??
I am giving the show, and the episode, 10 stars. However, 'Amelia Castro' is soooo vapid, so boring, I really don't know what anyone would see in her, man or woman. Is this how the character was written, or is she like this in all her appearances? Seriously - what is there to like about her?
Love Is Blind: After the Altar: Celebrations and Confrontations (2021)
Watching Giannina and Damian is painful.
I wish I could talk to that girl and say, "He doesn't love you" (and frankly, I'm a little suspicious of your 'love' for him too). A man who truly loves you
1. Doesn't need to figure it out.
2. Wants to be with you every single chance he gets.
3. Doesn't bring another woman to a party.
4. Manages to communicate with you, doesn't talk over you, doesn't throw things in. Your face, and more.
Also, I'm not sure what you see in him; I think your 'love' is more wishful thinking and wanting to be with someone, than it is *love*. Wake up, both of you move on, grow up some, and try again with someone else.
Signed,
These are things I know to be true.
The Father (2020)
Unbelievable performance by A. Hopkins
Really - unbelievable. Beautiful. Compelling. Within a few minutes I could already see why he won the Oscar (last night!). It does all become clear in the end, I think, although I might just watch it again to be sure. Olivia Colman is lovely, as always, so emotive... Really, a terrific film - just phenomenal, particularly because of Mr. Hopkins.
