Joe Rogan: Strange Times (2018)
Hilarious!
My husband watched this, and recommended it to me. I was skeptical, because I'm not a big Joe Rogan fan. I laughed so hard at this special that I was crying. My stomach hurt from laughing so hard.
American Sniper (2014)
Wanted to like it...
I went to see this with my husband, because my mom told me how wonderful it was. I'm not a fan of war movies. I hated Saving Private Ryan. I almost had to walk out during the opening sequence of Saving Private Ryan, because the battle scene was so intense. However, I had heard really good things about this movie, especially Bradley Cooper's acting, that I decided to go. Unfortunately, this was just not the right movie for me. I don't know if it was the sound system in the theater I went to, but I had a very difficult time understanding Bradley Cooper for the first third of the movie. The movie also seemed to stretch on forever. At one point, I looked at the clock and realized that we were an hour and a half into the movie, and he still had 2 tours to go. The other part I didn't like was when SPOILER AHEAD Chris Kyle shot and killed the sniper called Mustafa. I had done some reading on Chris Kyle before going to see the movie, and I knew that Chris was not the one that killed Mustafa. I mean, everyone else in the theater loved that part. Some people cheered. I also don't understand why they had to put in the scene where Chris Kyle shoots the little boy. That didn't happen either. END SPOILERS If you enjoy war movies, then this will be a good movie for you.
The Shrine (2010)
Don't waste your time
I'm guessing that all the reviews that say this movie is good are from people that were involved with the movie, or relatives of people involved with it. I wasn't even able to finish watching this movie, and I made it the whole way through Borat. I made it until the villager's faces began turning demonic, which basically means they put on the cheapest demon mask the producers were able to find at the local Wal-Mart. All of the scenes are horribly drawn out, especially when Carmen is in the mysterious fog. The only thing I found interesting was that there was not subtitles for the Polish people. Most people reviewing this movie found the lack of subtitles annoying. I actually liked that part. The American characters weren't understanding what the Polish people were saying, so I didn't either. It made me focus on their eyes and body language to try and figure out what was going on. Other than that, I absolutely hated this movie and would not recommend it for anyone.
Emergo (2011)
Apartment 143 - Boring
I had high expectations for this movie. I love movies about ghosts, and I love found footage movies. So, I figured this one would be perfect. I was completely and totally wrong. I enjoyed the characters and the back story. That's all I enjoyed though. During much of the movie, I had to turn the volume up all the way, and I still had difficulty hearing the dialog. Then, came the end of the movie. Here is a paranormal investigator, standing in a room with a girl levitating over her bed, and instead of focusing the camera on the levitating girl, the investigator goes back and forth from the psychologist and the girl's father. I actually yelled at the screen, 'Just point the camera at the girl!' I was also confused as to why this movie was in the found footage genre. No one dies. I would call this more of a mockumentary than found footage.
Beneath (2013)
Beneath - horrible, horrible, horrible movie
I don't think I can convey in words just how bad this movie is. I went into the theater with high hopes. I tend to enjoy independent movies. Not the case here. The premise of the movie was good. A group of teenagers decide to go across a lake to a place to have a party to celebrate graduating from high school. They get trapped on the lake by a killer fish and have to figure out how to get back to shore alive. Unfortunately, this movie was just bad. The acting...bad. The killer fish effects...bad. The ending...bad. I'm just glad that my husband won the tickets to see the movie. So, we didn't waste any money on this horrible movie. We just wasted our time. If it was possible to give this movie negative stars, I would. It's that bad.
Grave Encounters 2 (2012)
Grave Encounters 2 is dull and boring
If I could give this movie 0 stars, I would. The acting is bad and the characters are uninteresting. I didn't care about any of the characters at all. The pacing is slow. I found myself playing games on the computer because I was so bored. It takes forever to get to the "scary" part of the movie, and then the scary part isn't even scary. There's a few jump scares, but there aren't any genuine scares. The whole storyline of the second half of the movie seems very forced. The ending is ridiculous. Please, do not let this movie steal your time. Watch something else...anything else. The only thing that I did like was the special effects of the ghosts. That was the only part that spooked me.
Happy Feet Two (2011)
Save your money!!
I went to see this movie with my niece. She's seven, and SHE didn't even like it! Happy Feet 2 drags on for one hour and 40 very long minutes. The plot, and I use that term loosely, is all the penguins at Emperorland become trapped when a glacier slams into their home and traps them. Apparently, glaciers move at lightning fast speed, and none of the penguins were able to see it coming. It's then up to Mumble, Eric, and Eric's two sidekicks to save the day...through dancing of course! Obtaining help from some elephant seals and some other penguins, they all dance enough to dislodge a large section of ice. Then, all the penguins can walk out. Yay! Now they can go seek revenge on all those rotten humans that abandoned them when the blizzard rolled in. Maybe that can be Happy Feet 3 - The Revenge. (Hey, it worked for Jaws...oh, wait...) Here's the main problem with the movie...the problem of the penguins being trapped could have been solved in approximately one minute. Will the Krill falls through a hole in the ice while the penguins are dancing, and the group of krill decide to live underneath that section of ice, because they are safe there. Hmmm...the krill fell through a small hole in the ice. See where I'm going here?? The penguins could have just used their beaks to pick through the ice to make a hole, and then just swim to safety. There ya go. Movie over in five minutes. I also wanted to jab two q-tips in my ears to make myself deaf when Mumble's son is singing to convince the elephant seal to help rescue the penguins. Cheesy isn't a strong enough word...Velveetaey works better. Please save your money.
Farce of the Penguins (2006)
Just a fun and hilarious movie
When my husband rented this movie, I told myself I was going to hate it. I mean...Farce of the Penguins?? You have got to be kidding me! I mean, look at the DVD cover! It's ridiculous! About 2 minutes into the movie, I found myself smiling on the couch. In 5 minutes, I was laughing out loud. This movie is absolutely hilarious! Samuel L. Jackson is perfect as the narrator. Now, I will admit, it is very, very crude almost the entire way through the movie. So, if you are easily embarrassed, don't watch this movie. I also would not recommend watching this movie with your grandmother in the room. Other than that, sit back, eat some popcorn, and enjoy!
The Haunting in Connecticut (2009)
If you go thinking this is based on a true story, you will be disappointed
I was looking forward to seeing this movie for weeks. Every time I would see a commercial for it, I would point at the TV and tell my husband I wanted to see it. I had watched the Discovery Channel program about the haunting, and I loved it. I came out of the movie theater VERY disappointed. The biggest flaw in this movie is that a logical reason is given for about 90% of the paranormal activity that occurred. The family's son has cancer, and he is on an experimental treatment. The experimental treatment causes visual and auditory hallucinations, and the son is the only one that sees the paranormal activity. So, when they son starts seeing things, he thinks it is a side effect of the medication and doesn't tell his mother. The writers attempt to explain why the son is the only person that sees the ghosts in the house later, but it just seems like a cover up to try and make the story believable. The other part of the story I found disappointing I actually discovered AFTER I had seen the movie. I started researching online and discovered that this movie is loosely, and I mean VERY loosely, based on a true story. There's a very interesting interview with the author of the book that the movie is based on at this website: http://www.horrorbound.com/readarticle.php?article_id=61. Anyone planning to go see this movie thinking that they are seeing a true story should really read this interview first.
