Behind Her Eyes (2021)
Psych Thriller Fan? This is for you...
I'm a big psychological thriller fan. I prefer them over the typical 'horror' film. I like to have some meat to the plot. Rather than regurgitated gore and/or jump scares.
I love a good plot twist.
To be honest, when I started this series I was like 'Meh. It's okay.'
It hits the accelerator just past the midway point, just past some good character building.
I was not expecting the ending even with me trying to figure it out. The writing is so good. I think I will actually go back and watch it a second time to see it through a set of eyes in which I know what to look for.
If you like this genre, do yourself a favor and sit down and watch this.
Such a pleasant surprise for a show! Netflix! Please keep going with your originals.
The Affair (2014)
Can tell when writing changes... but still worth the watch!
Okay. If you've made it to my review, I am just here to affirm what others say.
Season 1 & 2 are so good.
Season 3... sucked. That's putting it nicely. Not sure if writers shifted. But, it didn't flow well.
(I stuck it out.)
Season 4 was better.
Season 5 was a nice wrap up BUT... could've done it in half the time. Found myself skipping forward in places.
The overall message was good.
Nobody is perfect. We are all flawed.
Forgiveness.
Life is short.
My three big take aways...
I Care a Lot (2020)
I guess people now only like cookie cutter movies.
This movie was so good. Don't listen to the naysayers. It's unique, quirky, fun. Even the title is great...
If you like your normal, run of the mill, 'happy', nicely wrapped and commercially acted movies. This is not for you. (Marvel, Titanic, rom coms?)
If you like, offbeat, actors who aren't the 'top billed', different scripts, beats to its own drum, doesn't follow mainstream plots and tightly packaged for sale.
This is for you. Very good!
Hereditary (2018)
A delayed, unsettling scare.
I have to say, I like scary movies, but I tend to like ones with less gore but leave a thriller, creepy factor. (Think of Hush, Magic, Skelton Key, What Lies Beneath, Carrie). I like original stories with a unique twist.
This one totally surprising. I went into it based off the one trailer I saw. I thought it was gonna be a typically psychological thriller and man was I wrong. It didn't scare me very much while I was watching it. It ended... and I just sat there like wtf just happened. Then the scare settled in. This is a totally underrated movie. (A month later and I still think about it! That rarely happens.) You definitely miss things that watching a Second time you may pick up on.
Great, unique. I'm so sick of the regurgitated horror films. Over them.
This was fresh and fierce. If you like unconventional horror. This is for you.
Give it a go.
