Well worth the watch!
18 October 2022
This one is well worth the watch if you like to watch movies for entertainment vs being preached at and woke-splaned. None of that here. All the action you'll ever need and the plot fits the action. Definitely get your popcorn ready ahead of time. The acting is better than I expected as well. The characters that are supposed to be likable ARE, the ones you're not supposed to like are pretty dislikable as well. The fight with the clown was definitely over the top. Pretty much non-stop entertainment with this movie. If you only watch movies for social commentary and angst, this isn't the movie for you.

Halo (2022– )

Who plays video games?
29 March 2022
Mainly young men play video games right? Why is this thing another woke feminist fantasy? There's like one white dude in the whole show when there are MILLIONS that played Halo at one time or another, and he seems to be led around by the nose by the female cast who are in charge of everything... like almost every single T. V. show and movie that comes out now days. How about actually making a show for guys to watch? Just one maybe?

The action scenes were pretty good, what there was of them before it descended into generic T. V. relationship dramaville, leaving the aftertaste of stale left-overs from the fridge you should have thrown out days ago.

I was excited to see they were going to do a series on Halo but after the first episode I can pretty much take it or leave it.

Oh, I also watched the little interview with the actor that plays Master Chief. Talk about scripted gunk straining to look spontaneous. Couldn't finish that.

Hope they didn't spend too much money on it.

Nothing happens.

Warning: Spoilers
Well, I toughed it out and hate-watched the whole season. What a waste of time, but there's mostly just other garbage out now days, so what the heck. The Japanese part of the show never amounts to anything what-so-ever other than the main character of that portion constantly reminding you of how moody, gay and Mary Sue perfect she is. Not sure what the point of that whole portion is. The Japanese seem to be the last people on Earth to figure out that there's aliens invading. The aliens are a major disappointment. Just undulating black blobs that can only be killed by a black piece of rock apparently that the almost-a-doctor mom's kid found. That actress has only a single facial expression through most of the series and seems to forget how to speak. Her whole story arch is also kind of pointless. Just a bunch of fleeing. Eventually a bunch of evil white people chase her and her family in the woods ... for some unfathomable reason. The combined stories of the kid with seizures and the soldier also seems pointless once they meet up. So the kid drew some sketches of the aliens before he saw them. A little late for a warning at this point, everyone knows what's going on and what the creatures/drones look like... black scribbly things that someone with no artistic talent would scratch out in a seizure with a single pencil.

Don't care how they explain all this tedium in a potential season 2, I'm not going to be watching. Apple needs to give up on Sci-fi. This was bad, "Foundation" was horrible, and "See" is also garbage and unwatchable.

Arrival (II) (2016)

One of my favorites of recent years.

I really liked this one for the ultimate premise vs any of the action scenes. The concept of learning a new language being able to essentially rewire your brain should strike a chord with anyone who's learned another language from scratch and gotten pretty good at it. You do start thinking differently when you think in that other language. When you get to the point where you're not translating from English to whatever anymore, that's when you realize that there's a lot more to language than words.

Most "Bond" like movie of all the Craig editions.
22 November 2021
I was pleasantly surprised that it was more of a classic James Bond movie that the other Craig/Bond movies. Overall it was basically nonsensical. Also, anything that resorts to "nano-bots" for their plot might as well just say "It's MAGIC!", since there's apparently nothing this mythical tech can't seem to do. Let's hope they wait about 15 years for the end of WOKE before trying to reboot this property.

Far closer to the book that I thought anyone could get.
22 November 2021
They did a very good job on this movie, sticking very close to the original book/story. I was pleasantly surprised. Casting is very good, acting is very good. I question the choice of having Paul's mom look like she's maybe his slightly older sister. Again, as for a movie adaptation of a novel, this is probably the best job I've seen to date. If you liked the book, you won't find too much to complain about. Which is saying a lot now days.

Save yourself the time.

Couldn't get through the entire first episode. Everything was ridiculously predictable. Just imagine the dumbest dialog and wait a minute, they'll say it. All the men are weak betas. Really don't need to see anymore of that garbage.

Lots of swimming in a dark pool...
25 September 2021
If you like to watch someone swim back and forth over and over in a dark swimming pool then this is fantastic. (If you make it to episode 2 you'll see). They must have dumped a lot of the budget on that set so really wanted to get their money's worth.

Already started heavily using the fast forward in episode 2. This has nothing to do with the Asimov books other that a few place and character names.

Massive disappointment. It's like it was designed to make sure nobody ever reads Asimov from this day on. Those that were fans of Asimov will hate this and people that were not familiar will certainly NOT be enticed to pick up the books by it.

Season 6 poisons the whole series.
19 September 2021
Unless you love woke, don't watch season 6. You'll be much happier just making up your own conclusions after season 5. Season 6 was painful to choke down and some episodes had to be watched with fast forward heavily deployed. In the end they took something that I had thought of as an overall enjoyable watch and toxified it to the point where now I'm left with a bad enough after taste that I'm bothering to write this review. Next step: look up the writer's names, memorize them and avoid anything they are connected to in the future.

Tenet (2020)

Seriously, don't waste your time.
30 November 2020
Here's how bad this movie was.

I recently watched Jiu Jitsu "staring" Nick Cage. I was able to somehow watch that one to the end.

I was not able to do so with Tenet last night. Fell asleep 3x, rewinded, realized the rewinding was a waste of time and decided to just turn it off with about 20 minutes of show left. I have no desire to learn how the movie ended.

My summary of the movie: Black dude with impressive beard wears fancy suits and does some random action scenes that always end with you trying to figure out just why the heck that just made sense to someone to put it into a movie. Dialog is abysmal, generic "Russian" bad guys etc. "Fancy" special effects of time reversal I was able to do back in high school in the early 80's using 8mm film.

Looking for new information? Look elsewhere.
10 October 2020
Just another rehash of already known information. I've seem most of this stock footage about a dozen times in other "UFO" type series. This is a good overview for people that don't already know all this or haven't seen the info elsewhere.

No it doesn't get better after the first episode.
9 April 2020
If you love plodding plots emphasized by even more horrifically monotonous piano music, then is is the show for you. Choked down the first episode, then when they started in again with that damn score at all times, I just started scanning episodes randomly. Yep, there's that insane piano pounding over and over and everyone has the same expressions on their faces that everyone else does constantly in every episode. Don't watch if you're depressed and contemplating suicide.

Joker (I) (2019)

Don't believe the 10 * reviews.
30 December 2019
The movie was truly awful. Had a difficult time staying interested in it or awake. There are hundreds of reviews under 4 stars and I have to agree with all of them so I'll not rehash them here. I found nothing likable about this entire movie other than the Joker's costume at the end. That was stylish. :) His green hair color was a fail. You can't just dye dark hair green, you have to bleach it first to give it some pop.

All the 10 star reviews seem to be a clone of each other, copy pasted using the same generic superlatives to praise the film. Words most of the 10 star people probably don't actually understand the definition of.

This film had no place in the super hero genre which you usually would take your children to go see. If you took your kid to THIS movie, simply put, you are a horrible parent.

Worth the watch. Just have to shut off your brain.
18 November 2019
Everyone else has already stated what's wrong with the show or what's enjoyable with it and they're pretty dead on.

My point in writing this is, I keep thinking that the show is the EXACT OPPOSITE of how a society of completely blind people would evolve. You wouldn't have armies, combat would be avoided at all cost. Cooperation would be the only way to survive. I would think the humans would be completely peace-loving and non-violent. Anything else just ends up with everyone dying for an accident, homicide, starvation or getting eaten by wolves (Which are surprisingly absent ...)

Not sure how having slaves would work either. You'd need pretty much 1+ guys to guard each slave. Not an efficient use of manpower.

I still don't get what they were doing with the power they were generating in the damn. Seems the only used it for executions.

*** EDIT for Season 2 ***

Choked down the first two episodes of season 2 and just can't take it anymore. If I hear they kill off the queen some day I might pop back in for another look. That character is like nails on a chalkboard and I don't watch shows that just plain irritate me more than they entertain me. I fully understand why she does the lilting voice bit, but why then only her? Oh, because then they'd have canceled it after season 1 episode 1...

Also, it has gotten just too hard to keep taking suspension of disbelief to new levels.

Classic teen horror flick. Worth the watch.
27 May 2019
It's basically Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but it's well done. Acting is good. I liked it since it had that classic teen horror feel to it. They missed a chance or two to make things truly horrific, but in general it was a good watch.

Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Season 8, Episode 3
4/10
Would have been nice to actually SEE even half the action.
30 April 2019
They went way cheap and hid everything in excessively dark scenes that were difficult to make out. Was that Joran's profile? Don't know, too dark to make out who that was. Might have worked on a full-sized theater screen, but on a 60" TV, not so much.

Tactics used in the battle were laughable at best. Seriously, so you're going to fight an enemy that can see perfectly well in pitch black darkness but you don't have sufficient fires and torches going to see your own hand before your face in most areas? That castle and the entire battlefield should have been lit up bright as day.

Who's going to kill Cersei now that they used the character I thought would be best offing her to take out the Knight King?

Also, pretty much another episode of little girls rule, men just drool.

At least all the female characters didn't get together for a group photo in the middle of the battle.
