The Canterville Ghost (2021)
Fun well filmed remake.
This story has been told and retold in film many times. This remake is a fun rendition with great location shots and beautiful camera work! Worth the time!
The Story of the Other Wise Man (1989)
I Love this inspiring film!
This is the story of Artaban, the other wise man, who spends his life seeking the King of Kings. He always gets close but is sidetracked by someone in need, and instead of pushing on in his quest, stops to help. This is a lesson in kindness and charity. Despite Artaban's fervent desire to give his gifts to Jesus Christ of Nazareth, he relinquishes them in order to help those less fortunate. He finds at the end of his life that when he helped others, he was in truth doing these good deeds to the Lord. An inspiring film!
Freetown (2015)
Excellent and suspenseful!
The story of these brave missionaries is quite inspiring. To be hunted in your own land is something most will fortunately never have to face. You cannot watch this film without feeling your heart break for the tremendous difficulties the people of Liberia had to face during their civil war. Sadly, such hatred, violence, and oppression is still is found in many places around the globe.
As I watched this film I kept thinking how grateful I should be for living in a country free from civil war and oppression. We in America should realize how incredibly blessed we are and how much we have to be thankful for that we can go where we want, when we want, without our very lives being threatened.
Paths of Glory (1957)
Do Not Waste Your Time On This Exercise In Depression
I just finished watching Paths Of Glory. I now wish I could have those two hours of my life back. This film is nothing but an exercise in the depressing. I kept thinking that the film would show some purpose, some justice, something to cheer for. But instead it starts off dark and depressing, and it ends dark and depressing. I don't know if the makers of the film want us to feel that all military generals are evil sadists, or just the French Generals. I don't know if they want us to feel that there is no justice in the military, or just no justice in the French military. If I could have given less than a 1 star rating, I would have done so. Don't waste your time on this film, you've been warned.
Poirot: Appointment with Death (2008)
Poirot has a soul
It is refreshing to see that Hercule Poirot has perhaps an appreciation and an understanding of religion. He is shown reading the Bible and praying. Einstein once said that the more he learned about the workings of the universe the more he became convinced there had to be a Supreme Creator behind it all. Poirot is perhaps learning that as well. David Suchet is synonymous with the character of Hercule Poirot for those of us who've become fans of the show. But just as important are the characters of Colonel Hastings and Inspector Japp. It is disappointing that they don't appear in later episodes. While it's true that these characters don't appear in several of the books, they would have been a welcome compliment to Poirot's character in the screenplays. After all, screen adaptations are rarely exact adaptations of the book. And the screenplays would have benefited from the likable characters of Japp and Hastings.
