Znachor (2023)
Poor writing and disrespect to Polish culture and history
Good stuff first - scenography, filming, costumes and first scenes.
The rest is utter garbage. 1. Little character development for the title guy (Professor Wilczur aka. Antoni Kosiba), he is just some background to his daughter's (Marysia) tale. 2. Main love story is not credible - one scene Marysia despise the young count Leszek and the other scene they are in love, without any reason, plot twist or whatsoever. Plus no chemistry between the two. He looks younger than her while in the book he was 30, she was 19. 3. Complete lack of respect to the times and place of the story. It's the eastern borderlands of Poland in 1930. It's not just the modern language that should not be there, it is also behaviour of the characters that looks like from 2020. Marysia frequently shouts at other people, is rude to many of them is bossy and at some point sleeps with the count on a pile of hay on the second date. Another point - Christianity (orthodox) at that time was super strong and faith was extremely important for people then. This was a big part of the story background in the book. But not for Netflix. All crosses, prayer scenes or language references were deliberately removed. If you don't want to stick to the times where the story is placed, just write another story and do not call it a 1930's book adaptation. 4. Key part of the story was removed - the miller (Prokop) and his family, who took Wilczur under their roof had huge impact on his life. 5. The court scene at the end... well just super disappointing at every level. Guys, please watch 1981 version. That's a masterpiece. The 2023 one is just another Witcher by Netflix...
The Morning Show (2019)
Turns out to be a big FRAUD at the end
A very entertaining show that gets you seriously hooked up since episode 1. An intriguing plot with a wise notion that social issues have different points of view that have to be considered and that the world is not just black or white. And then... In the last episode a complately unrealistic turn of events is procured to prove that there is actually only one point of view, the righteous one. Deus ex mahina saving metoo hashtag at all costs. Logic can be discarded when ideology is to prevail. Disappointing.
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
This is how you make a movie!
I have always had problems with taking my girlfriend to see superheroes movies. Yes, she likes Robert Downey Jr. so I managed to make her see Iron Man and Avengers... but still it was a huge challenge to go to a cinema with her and see TDKR. But after all that I must say it was worth every second spent on convincing her, every minute in the cinema and every penny paid for the tickets. Twice during the movie did she look at me and said "It's awesome". And while going back home she couldn't stop being excited about what she had just seen and praising the director, the script, the plot and the atmosphere created by Nolan. I am so happy to finally have the same opinion as she does when coming out of the theater. A good movie is not the one that has the biggest number of great opinions sent by zealot fans. A good movie is the one that is acknowledged by the viewers that didn't even want to go to a cinema. You may not like action/superhero movies, but you must take your hat off to what Mr. Nolan did. This is how you make a movie!
1612: Khroniki smutnogo vremeni (2007)
Not only unrealistic, but made without basic knowledge of film-making
The movie was terrible. There were very big holes in screenplay and direction... The most important problem was the characters. They, especially that Polish knight, were totally not consistent. You don't know what actually drives him, whether it is love, passion, greed, hate or power... the director actually didn't have any logical concept on that. The makers also didn't have a consistent idea on how to put fantasy moments into the movie. The unicorn, the oracle and others could be, without a doubt, removed causing no loss for the movie. But the stupidest moment was when the Russian defenders almost destroyed the whole Polish army with a gun made of leather during one night. That made me laugh for a few minutes. But it wasn't funny... it was pathetic. One thing I liked were parts of battle scenes. They were pretty realistic (considering the way they were filmed, not their probability). But this is not enough to make make this film worth watching.
