Scandal: White Hat's Back On (2013)
Love story aside, last 5min knocked it off the park
I was irritated and confused by the unwanted love story of 2 leading characters. The web series initially promised so much. It was fast paced. Lots of surprises. But the love story brought the whole story to a screeching halt. And it's frustrating to see the indecisiveness of Olivia Pope. Where did the fixer Olivia Pope go? I don't need a confused lover.
SEASON2 was long and dragging most of the times. 22 episodes Seriously! I was about to give up on the web series. But to my utter surprise, the last 5min of this episode knocked it off the park. I just didn't see it coming.
I cant belive I am saying this. I will actually watch Season 3.
Sooryavanshi (2021)
Last 30min was dismal
The movie started well. It was engrossing with the terrorism plot with fast paced screenplay. Towards the 3rd act it completely fell all apart. It became a freaking superhero movie. Not sure the need of Ranvir Singh and Ajay Devgan. Ajay Devgan was there to promote his sequel.
The movie is quite illogical and a typical Rohit Shetty Masala entertainment. Go with minimal expectations.
Thappad (2020)
A slap to patriarchy!
An audacious taboo subject. I can understand why people dont like it. It hurts their male ego and Tapsee's political opinions ( which may have nothing to do with the movie).
A well crafted subtle movie depicted mundane lifestyle of a housewife. She happily supports the family. But a moment of emotional response from her husband turn her life upside down. She sees a different perspective of herself, her relationship and realises the patriarchal issues which in a different times she would have neglected it. No more!
Great acting from actress Tapsee Panu. Anubhav Sinha is getting better movie after movie. I am curious to see what he does next.
Unthinkable (2010)
Quite Disturbing! And awesome acting!
Religious extremism and cliche is quite common in Hollywood. It's a commonplace now. But when the line between good and evil is blurred then it becomes quite engaging. And that is where the movie succeeds. Last 30min are awesome.
Martin Sheen my god, he is awesome powerhouse actor. He certainly steals the show. Well supported by ever reliable Samuel Jackson and Carrie Moss.
But this movie is definitely not for faint hearted and quite disturbing.
Chaman Bahaar (2020)
Good simple story!
This movie gives a proof of how a simple story can be funny and interesting. It reminds me of Basu Chatterjee movies of 70s and 80s.
The ending was realistic and provides the societal gap between individuals. There cannot be any other ending.
Great acting by Jitender Kumar. He excels in these kind of roles. I am keen on what he does next.
Undekhi (2020)
Illogical and bad
Native of Sunderbans having gorilla tactics skillets, seriously?
There are many such illogical subplots which makes it unbearable to watch.
Only silver lining is Dibyendu Bhattacharjee.
Otherwise stay away from this web series.
Titans: Nightwing (2019)
Final episode nosedives!
Season 2 really nosedives as we come to the end of this season. The web series get messed up with too many characters in an effort to bring all of them to a logical conclusion. The result is absolute stupidity!
I still do not understand what was the need to bring a new character like "Subject 13/Connor" in Episode 6. The character was half baked and did not get flushed out as it should have been.
There were too many throwback scenes disrupting the storyline and slowing down the pace. I never cared about them.
The ending of last episode kept the promise alive, but I fear the web series may be cancelled. It would require real efforts to bring it back to the promise it showed in Season 1.
The President Is Coming (2009)
Pretty original low budgeted movie
I just stumbled upon this movie in a video parlor. Frankly speaking I never had any expectations on this low budged movie. I was quite a pleasantly surprised by the story line.
The movie is quirky, politically sarcastic and immensely hilarious. It has an interesting premise of the famously publicized visit of George Bush visiting India back in 2006. The American Embassy hires a PR Agency to shortlist 6 unique Indians and choose 1 India to "shake" hands with Bush. The choice would be make by going through few competitive rounds.
The movie shows these 6 candidate's personal funny moments, opinions and reactions and funny apprehensions in the competitive rounds. The film successfully depicts Indian crazy euphoria of their American Dreams regardless of how stupid they may be. Each of the candidates are desperate to win. The film successfully brings the best of the sarcasm in the entire socio-political circus.
I specifically liked acting of Anand Tiwari( the freaky financial broker),Konkona Sen Sharma(arrogant Bengali writer) and Shernaz Patel ( PR Co-ordinator).
Overall the film is a great home video entertainer with popcorn. Trust me, you wont regret it!
M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016)
MS Dhoni is engaging is best in 1st half and ordinary in 2nd half.
MS Dhoni movie had a great premise. The story of one of the most popular cricketer in India. MS Dhoni has struggled early in his career to achieve success. Dhoni had his mercurial success in a short span of time. And the records speaks of it. In his road to success, Dhoni had his fair shared of controversies. After all Indian Cricket is always front page news all the time.
As far as the movie goes, the first half captures aptly his struggles and frustrations in life. Unlike Yuvraj Singh,Dhoni had to work his way to the top. The first half is the best part of the movie and Neeraj Pandey nailed it perfectly.
The trouble started in the 2nd half where Dhoni enters Indian Team. The movie clearly stays safe away from controversies and conflicts with teammates. It does not give any any inroads to what Dhoni thinks in those controversial times. My guess is that Neeraj Pandey started with the right intent but end up making a superficial content to keep Dhoni happy and content. Also there might be objections from BCCI and players like Yuvraj Singh, Viraat Kohli, Virendra Shehwag etc. It is very difficult to make a biopic of a living legend. Hence it left the movie high and dry.
Also to make the matter, the unnecessary introduction of love interest ( 2 of them). The subplot of love life of Dhoni brought the pace of the movie to a complete halt. Neeraj Pandey is not good with romantic scenes ( its a Karan Johar zone), we saw the example in his previous movies like Baby and Special26.
Great performances from Sushant Singh Rajput( the best of his career till date!).
Finally the length of the movie was 3hr 5mins. That was awfully long.
The movie is a mass movie capturing the best cricketing moments of Dhoni in his career. They are memorable and people will definitely love it. It will surely be a blockbuster.
But definitely it is not Neeraj Pandey's best!
