Unthinkable (2010)
torture still continues, shocker!
this movie is about torturing a terrorist. and it's not even unique about that, cut fingers, electrify them, sack em, shower em with cold water... that's it.
yes, nothing more. anyone seeing more than that, just tries too hard.
after watching this movie, can you chitchat with your friends, whether torturing a person to save a city is moral or not, you can. what's in the movie, torturer tortures, fbi gal says don't he is a human being too.
whoa, such deepness. unthinkable!
don't waste your time.
The Box (2009)
fail
when i read some short description about this i thought, hmm, something like death note, kill people pushing a button instead of writing their names down, can be interesting. but it's full of flaws and since those flaws what makes this potentially "not bad" movie "fail" there's no other way to explain it without listing those. in no particular order; .main guy working at nasa can not be an astronaut because he failed psychology test. how? why? we don't know, so what's good about telling us about this if you are not going to explain? stupid.
.when the man with half face asked main girl what did you feel when you first saw me, pity? she said she felt love... lies. anyone with that kind of face will freak you out. we can't stand the cripple and freak because if he mates he will produce another freak like himself. natural selection. you can't blame people for their basic insticts. and if anyone can like a cripple that's another cripple, so that doesn't change anything for humanity in general.
.you live in a box, you ride a box, you watch a box. so that's why a box with a button is interesting? stupid, half baked half arsed analogy. if it was a globe with a button they would push it again. a dodecahedron would be even better i bet! .diaz's performance sucked. she just keep that sad face throughout the movie and even when she smile she still looked sad. she looked very old for her husband as well.
.what those jet motors was doing in that place? what's their function? just surreal decorations? yes.
so you will see, plasma like or jelly like blue gateways that wobbles, you will see main guy trapped in water floating in the room and well... you will see a box and white winamp visualisation like tunnel.
it's just all about a moral problem, would you kill people for money? aliens testing us. they just don't tell you after you push the button they will make other people to use it and you will be the "random" person who is going to be killed.
Ink (2009)
the best movie i've seen in 3 years
let me start with what i don't like; the blind guy and how his eyes cross taped. the idea is interesting but the tape was so shiny new, it wasn't fitting with the enigmatic/dreamy atmosphere. i mean, it was like, they just bought a black electronics tape from the next hardware store and applied on actor's face just in two seconds and patted him from his back and sent to set or something... i don't know. and ink's nose, i keep watching the movie my eyes on it... when it is going to fall? anyway, i loved this movie so much, i'm going to ignore these "little things", yes. besides, incubus folk and their headset was freaking superb. fighting scenes and the music was so in rhyme, it doesn't felt any violent, it felt like art, like, forces of universe in action, the evil and the good, yin and yang. and as an indie film, this make a good blend of happy children's fantasy and dark science fiction. some butterfly effect, some the crow, some pan's labyrinth and even some x-men... if you are not a freaking perfectionist, you will love this movie, it's full of little beautiful fresh ideas.
11:14 (2003)
no character backgrounds, no interesting.
diane killed someone. michael hit by a car. george robbed the local mall. leslie and her friends drinking in the car and being jerks... see, not interesting, because you don't know who are these people. when you make a movie of people with interlinked funny stories, you "at least" have to make one main character with background so we can give a damn about what's going on. that's what's wrong about this movie. since we couldn't establish an emphatic connection with any of those characters, it just doesn't matter, how the movie ends... or how the movie progresses for that matter.
watch and burn.
Heroes (2006)
people voting TV shows never below 8 or what...
if there's one thing good about this, it's the visual effects, just that.
like, an episode ends like this; some dude with sniper rifle about to kill two villains inside the house, he just needs to touch the trigger.
but then, what the hell, next episode starts with those two villains making love on the ground. sniper, for some reason we are not supposed to know, didn't shoot until he can miss. there are tons of stupid stuff like this that i can not define with the word "flaw", it's an insult. they say, consistency? ribbit! just watch it you idiots, people fly here and stuff...
Firefly (2002)
nothing special really...
i'm sick and tired "sci-fi" shows and movies where they say a few sci-fi words like "terraforming" and then showing you a few computer-made spaceships models and then make you watch completely non sci-fi stuff like bar fights, fencing duels, an old lady with a horse saying this world is mine shooting the captain with an old rifle in the grand canyon... i mean, is it only me who feels like being fooled? where's that science part? no, you are watching a-team with a spaceship really... yet a-team is not that bad so my vote was 5 out of 10 (it's 6 actually but -1 for hypocrisy)
for example, i like battlestar galactica a lot more than this because it was at least maintaining the mystery and the fantasy keeping it psychological/metaphysical all the time (even tough that means failing at sci-fi department again). like, that's something interesting too. much more interesting than a bar fight. bar fights are freaking too normal for science fiction stuff. i don't know what in this to give it 9...
Elephant (2003)
watch your starfield screensaver better
first of all, i couldn't even finish the movie, stopped watching when it start showing that green skies again and then those people sleeping... i said, i don't "have to" finish this, i don't care if there's a big turn of events or whatever, any film that is boring me this much for a complete hour has no right to tell me "watch the whole thing"... watching teenagers walking through the corridors for 3-4 minutes without a single thing happening is a reference to first person shooter games? or it is a minimalistic approach? i don't care in which "cool" way do you name it. it's just pointless. no, it's pointless and stupid and unartistic. you know, if you are killing people/burning houses/whatever "pointlessly" that's something to watch and it's not "really" pointless. so when i say pointless i mean it. this movie, or, at least the first freaking hour (if not more) pointlessly pointless.
i tried this after the movie "polytechnique" i must say. there was a user comment saying how this movie and poly similar films... well, sticking the camera someone's face for minutes-wise maybe.
Dark Corners (2006)
one of the best psychological movies i've ever seen
stalked by creatures... where are those creatures? there's not a single creature in this movie (imdb plot description) i've to give you some spoilers to make you understand what this movie is all about; thora has psychological problems and in her nightmares she lives another life as a super hot dark girl (she should really stay like that). as movie progresses reality and nightmares gets closer and closer to each other and in the end you realize that this all or at least a big part of all was the reality and we were watching it, just from her perspective.
putting all the pieces together is really hard, if thora was the murderer (both shrink and dark thora has a smashed fingernail so they are probably the same person) who was the blonde thora? someone completely else? was that guy dark thora's ex-lover and they part ways and she turn back and killed his wife (blonde thora)? either that or blonde one were also thora so we have a multiple personalities psyco here... i mean, in the end, shrink kills blonde thora, dark thora turns into blonde thora's husband and kills the shrink. dang, who is who?
so it's that kind of a movie, it's surreal, it's psychological and it's not a movie where creatures stalking you and then killing you.
Masters of Science Fiction (2007)
your usual cheap science(?) fiction...
OK then... it says "hosted by professor stephen hawking" and then hawking says the following thing i'd like to quote; "From the very beginning, we have wondered how life began, what our purpose is and where we are headed. We have struggled to understand time, matter, the infinite universe, who we are and if we are alone. Great minds have imagined the most wonderful and the most terrifying answers to these questions. We invite you to join us on this great expedition" sounds promising, no? when it comes from hawking? well, not. first episode is a memento rip off, you know the movie right? second episode is about some alien cocoon which at the end of the thing grows wings and flies away? yeah, that's what i call science fiction. then third episode is about this bio-robot of sorts designed to walk on landmines miraculously begin to like Christmas songs for no reason or whatsoever. your usual robots are people too thing if you ask me...
hawking calling these stuff "wonderful and the most terrifying" ? boy, maybe i was thinking a bit too highly about him.
True Blood (2008)
Artificial drama with funny vampires
I didn't like this show and here is the list why:
1) Vampires has Switchblade Fangs that clicks. It looks so unreal, so artificial. Both click and the look that is. 2) People keep dying in the town but no one really scared at all. 3) When i saw Anna in X-Men series i thought she is one hot girl but after this i think she has just funny lips and a fairly long nose. 4) I hated Buffy, I didn't like this, I liked Blade and I loved Underworld. Meaning, i like my vampires in vampiric places, doing vampiric things, charismatic and most importantly serious. 5) What's with the "girls likes hard sex" message going on?
I watched all episodes so far because I heard this is from the director of "Six Feet Under". Well, take Claire from that show and put her into this and i might understand how she is interested with vampires. Here, we have a telephatic so just because she can't hear his thoughts she is interested with a vampire? No. Because she show her interest with Eric right away when he entered the bar. So save the telephatic reason.
Sookie just doesn't have what it takes to be an interesting character or and much more probably maybe the character is just okay and my problem is with Anna... She seem so innocent and so young to have the balls to be with a vampire.
