Thai Cave Rescue (2022)
This is what Disney was in the past!
This is a fantastic miniseries! I hate the fact it's dubbed, but I understand why it happened. As a member of Generation X, I love the fact that we introduced America to anime. The story is too deep to allow for subtitles. Most people would not watch. It's a 100% classic! This film is a banger! The use of local actors and geography is perfect. It's a Western story told through Eastern eyes. If you know the story, and read or watched the details, you'll appreciate the film making. It's not perfect; however, the spirit and the passion shine through! Boys and Girls, watch closely; this is how you tell a story on film (video)!
Boss Level (2020)
The payoff for grinding a game!
Have you ever had to level grind in a game? If you don't know what I'm talking about, this movie will not appeal to you. The plot is simple and straightforward. It has an easy twist. It's an old fashioned style movie. It's also Joe Carnahan being a Boss! This movie is just plain fun! Enjoy and don't over think! Say that for Nolan.
The Dark Tower (2017)
On a second watch. . .
After watching the movie again and checking reviews and sources, I have a better appreciation for the films attempt. I was too young to read the first two books during their publication cycle; however, I did read the first three by 1992 and continued in real time. This movie is a sequel to the series of books. It can stand alone; however, if you know how the story ended, this is something new. The only constant is R.F. Don't let the "fans" run you away from a good film project. Watch the film, read the books, and understand Stephen King creates worlds (or at least R.F. And Castle Rock, Maine).
Stargate: Atlantis: Inquisition (2008)
On a THIRD watch
After watching this episode for a third time, it's way better than the regular fillers of SG:1. It's on the cheap because they have to save budget every year. However, it does form a decent and coherent story line. It opens the idea of a great political galactic plan. The flashback clips aren't random, and the explanations are on point. This episode was a great example of storytelling on a budget. I did see this episode during the broadcast schedule, 5 years ago, and tonight. I like it much more over time. The studio did a good job with leftovers.
After Earth (2013)
Stop making this movie something it is not.
This was a super-fun, coming of age, father and son movie. I repeat, this is a COMING OF AGE movie. This type of movie is not meant to be original; it is a classic storytelling vehicle. The only thing that is original is the location. I cannot understand the hate level of this movie. It is survival sci-fi plain and simple. Jaden played a scared teenage boy running for his life and making the most childish mistakes. He portrayed a realist teenager in case some viewers have not talked to a teen in a while. Teens are not particularly articulate or wise. Both Will and Jaden played their characters exactly as their world dictated. To have them perform in any other way would have been a fail. Drop all expectations and disbelief and just watch the movie for what it is, don't over think it.
