Jeepers Creepers 2 (2003)
Somewhat disappointing
I thoroughly enjoyed jeepers creepers for what it was; a decent horror flick with some unique characteristics and a catchy tune. The sequel got nothing with it.
The film is almost as The Titans mixed with The Predator. The intelligence level of the victims seems lower than average for this genre, and the only thing that reminds us that this is a sequel of the first is that the creature still looks alike, although now behaves completely different.
Maybe I had my hopes up too much; but as it was, it was too predictable with no likable characters, a story filled with holes and just not particularly fun, scary or interesting to watch.
If you like horror flicks, chances are you'll like this one. If you enjoyed the first and hope to get a good sequel, you'll probably be disappointed.
Ying xiong (2002)
Pretty darn good
Reading the other reviews, this film has had some bad remarks on it. I, for one, really enjoyed it, and thought it was much better Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The different colour schemes throughout the film depict the different views of what happened; I think it was brilliantly done.
To say the story was lacking is worrying seeing as this is a piece of true history of China; Overall the story was excellently told, with fair acting and absolutely gorgeous cinematography. My mother, who dislikes martial arts films and hated crouching tiger, loved this film. The film isn't evolving around the martial arts, but around a separate story, with martial arts on the sideline (shown as an art and philosophy, rather than just a fight). It's definitely one of the better films I had seen this year, and I hope many more like it will come out of China.
I'd give it an 8.5/10, so I'll round it up to a 9.
The Hot Chick (2002)
Great film, excellent work from Rob
The film comes to a slightly slow start, but after Adam Sandler's speech about Nelson Mandela it's unstoppable. I viewed this with a couple of friends and found it hilarious. Rachel McAdams' acting was below par, but fortunately she's only in a a very few scenes. Rob Schneider's acting was top notch and he even looked kinda sexy in a cheerleading outfit =). The story isn't very serious, so take it for what it is. If you liked Duce Bigalow, Male Gigolo, you'll love this film.
Kung Fu: The Way of the Tiger, the Sign of the Dragon. (1972)
Side-note
'KUNG FU was a martial arts show about an asian drifter who was part american the irony was BRUCE LEE was originally slated to star but was deemed not asian enough'
It was actually because Bruce Lee was asian that he wasn't chosen to perform. They dressed up an American to look as Asian as possible and hired asian martial artists to perform the kicks and moves.
They Live (1988)
Good story, terrible acting
I'm not sure what people see in the fight scenes; the choreography is way off, as Piper attempts to deflect punches Keith had no idea he was going to make yet. The fighting is awfully unrealistic, especially with the police fighting scenes, and give a good nostalgic memory of the 'Four Fists', but a lot less entertaining.
The story is reasonable, but definitely ruined by overly cheesy lines and bad acting. I chose to watch it due to reviews here, but I couldn't see anything to justify the time I spent watching it.
The Usual Suspects (1995)
Okayish
This film didn't do much for me. It seems fairly obvious from the start, without the clues, who'll end up as mr Keyzer.
Saying that, I didn't like Reservoir Dogs all that much either, so it's all a matter of taste I'm sure.
6/10 from me
Billy Connolly: Live 1994 (1994)
Some comedians make you laugh, some make you cry
but Billy Connolly will do both. I love comedy shows, but I've never been a big fan of stand up comedy. At least not until I saw Billy Connolly. A friend of mine brought his video over, never heard of the man before, but I have to say it was fantastic. I've honestly never laughed louder in my life at anything, this man is a genius! He comes on-stage without preperations, without scripts or without any clue what he's going to talk about, and just blurts the night away. No matter how many times I've seen any of his stuff, I invariably find myself rolling over the floor. The ultimate comedy genius, if you haven't seen him before, go! go get some of his stuff, rent buy or steal it, you won't regret it!
Dog Soldiers (2002)
Good film
I guess it's a bit of a low budget film, but the story's good and the acting excellent. If werewolves were real, I guess this film would come pretty close to reality (yeah yeah, if if). I'm not a big Alien/Predator fan, but I really enjoyed this film, as did many of my friends who watched it with me. It's not OTT, it's got good humor, and it'll definitely keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
9/10, good job
