Reviews
Horizon Line (2020)
Watchable, but only to laugh at how utterly horrible it is.
I'll keep it short.
Likely youve seen the other reviews.
The story is laughably stupid.
The acting is atrocious.
And logic / continuity are thrown out the (plane) window entirely.
If you do choose to watch just don't expect all these people telling you to skip it to be wrong.
Blair Witch (2016)
Watchable, but barely.
First off before I even get started I just want to point out that this movie cost 5 million to make and so far has already made 20 million. I don't think the filmmakers care if we liked it or not. And from what I'm seeing on the reviews I think we can all agree this movie was crap.
I think my major issue with the movie is I just don't really see the point. It's very obviously just a cash grab and I'm going to assume that the majority of the five million dollar budget went to marketing with their foolish "the woods scheme".
Since Blair Witch 1 I have been obsessed with found footage movies and I can tell you right now there are a few B rated movies that are actually freakier than this.
I'll stop rambling now and summarize.
Bad
- jump scares - illogical story - way too much screaming - story holes (peter? Time travel? Girls foot?) - too much subterfuge instead and no answers lol
Good
-some cool camera angles -succeeded in achieving the "being chased" feeling (almost a con for ruining the original) -good acting for the most part
Its a remake. Remake's suck. But I suppose it was watchable. 4/10
The Babadook (2014)
Don't read this review. Just go watch the movie.
I'm happy that I have seen a few other reviews for this that simply say "no review needed. Go watch the movie." You can trust that I feel the same way. So really, unless you are like me and you've come on here AFTER watching the movie, and want to know how other people felt, just stop reading and go watch it.
So, people who have already seen it, are you feeling like I feel right now? Do you have legitimate anxiety, even though no other movie has ever frightened you? I bet you do.
How bout this? Was there a point in the movie where it was almost unbearably tense and scary, to the point where you, for the FIRST time ever, almost had to turn the movie off? I bet so.
This movie is perfect in every way. I don't care about analyzing the ending as I feel the movie's main message is very clear.
One thing I do need to mention is that this is easily the best directed horror movie I've ever seen, perhaps movie in general.
I could go on for hours but I won't. No one will read this anyway.
With that said. 10/10.
Annabelle (2014)
Unless you're very desperate for something to watch, Pass on this.
It's 4am, I've wanted to go to sleep for the entire duration of this movie, but I rarely turn movies off, and now instead of sleeping I just felt I pay it forward and warn you to pick a better movie.
The premise is creepy, and I will admit the director does a good job and creating a decently frightening atmosphere.
But the movie as a whole is a flaming pile of *insert whatever poo reference you want here*.
It really feels like its just these filmmakers cashing on the on the genre/series. Pass on it. If you don't, you'll forget you ever saw it in less than a day.
The Possession of Michael King (2014)
Still an awesome movie after the second time!
Hey all. I had to log in to my IMDb account after watching this movie for the second time.
I'm very surprised that this movie has such a low rating. I'm a sucker for these types of movies, I will admit that, but with so many crappy movies coming out these days, this one really stands out.
I won't ruin anything. All I have to say is that if you like the found footage / demonic possession type movies, you will most likely think this is the best one you've seen so far.
It has an engaging storyline, truly frightening suspenseful moments, decent jump scares, and an ending that makes sense and doesn't make you angry (like some of the other movies in this genre).
Overall it just has a genuinely creepy vibe to it, and thats the type of movie that resonates with me. It feels REAL at times.
Kudos
50/50 (2011)
Watch
Having seen the trailer or if you've heard about this movie from word of mouth, I'm sure you don't need me to tell you to watch it. I'm positive you were already interested and its just a matter of time...
With that being said I do want to add that I love this movie very much and I think it was perfectly done in every way.
The directing was spot on, and the script/plot were perfect as well. I also think the cast were all great choices. Seth Rogan plays his role of the asshole best friend well, and the bitch girlfriend, the over protective mom, topped off with Joseph's cancer patient role.. everything was wonderful and very touching.
This is a must see movie and it teaches us that life can be short.
Get it if you haven't already, but something tells me you have.
Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star (2011)
Save yourself 1.5 hours. Unless you watch everything.
I read another review and it painted my idea of this movie pretty clearly. But I will put it into my own words.
While I will admit there are like 4 lines in the movie that made me laugh hysterically (mostly Kevin Nealon parts), the movie itself is disaster. There is no way to explain the outright awfulness of it, but I will try.
It's hard to believe that such an amazing cast would even SHOW UP for this movie. Bottom line. And yeah, Nick Swardson is usually hilarious.. but come on. The character Bucky Larson is the most unlikeable character I've ever seen in a movie, and I've seen thousands by now. And that alone makes the plot unbelievable.
I suppose there is a whole, "even guys with small dick's deserve love and can get a hot girl" message there somewhere, but its clouded by stupidity, and its never very moving, because there is just NO CHANCE Christina Ricci would ever touch "Bucky Larson" - Stephen Dorf has a line in the movie "Am I in the Twilight Zone?" That is the only place where the story of this movie would ever be even remotely believable.
And to make matters worse, there is ONE conflict and it happens in the last 10 minutes of the movie. The rest is literally climbing action. There's no climax. It is seriously the worst movie I have seen in years.
Don't bother. The Hangover 2 (so horrible as well) was better than this movie, and I think I laughed more here... That's saying something about the script/plot of this movie. It's just a disaster.
1/10.
Sunshine (2007)
If you haven't seen this, do yourself a favor and do so now
Its not too often when a gem like this escaped my radar for 5 years without me having heard of it. Especially when its full of such a wonderful cast of characters.
The movie itself seems to be a clash between Event Horizon and the show Defying Gravity (if you haven't seen that show.. wowowow).
The plot is straight forward enough. Mankind's final hope of salvation from a dying sun is in the hand's of the crew members of the Icarus 2.
This movie has a great pace that never slows down once its starts to accelerate, and to me pace is the most important thing in entertainment. It never wastes time on boring scenes - everything is important and plays to the main storyline.
The acting was great. There's a little twist near the end that might be unexplainable to some, but I figured it out. The directing is wonderful, as is the soundtrack - though it might have used another 1-2 songs, the major overture played during every riveting scene (which is the only reason I gave it 9 instead of 10).
I also enjoy how the movie doesn't try to explain anything to you. It lets you figure it all out on your own while following a very straightforward storyline.
Great movie, I'm glad I happened upon it. Watch it!
Running Scared (2006)
Watch this
Watch this movie.
From beginning to end, this movie is a nonstop thrill ride with twists and turns around every corner. A great cast of unique and colorful characters, awesome directing and wonderful storytelling help to keep this movie chugging along at a locomotive pace. You won't want to take your eyes off the screen.
I can't find anything negative to say about this movie.
It's not a cult classic or a legendary film that will go down in history or anything like that. But personally, I find most of those movies aren't enjoyable.
It's a great action thriller and you will definitely not be disappointed. WATCH IT.
Hostel: Part III (2011)
Worth Watching... maybe?
Okay. So, the other day my friend randomly messages me and says, "haha, how could they make a Hostel 3?" I gingerly reply with, "Pretty easily." These days the crap that's getting released is unfathomable, so I was not surprised to hear there was a Hostel 3.
I ended up downloading it for sh*t's and giggles, expecting it to be the normal gore fest some of our society has grown attached to. IE: SAW and the original Hostel movies.
While the gore is there, as expected, this movie changes things up a bit. I will admit that, even though my overall feeling after the movie was that it sucked and it was pointless (could be due to the horrible ending), it at least kept my attention throughout.
There are twists and turns all over the place. It is a well thought out and told tale of betrayal and psycho rich people. I do believe a lot of people will like it. The acting is well done, and like I said the premise and storyline are decent, it's just.. come on.. Why make movies like this..? Do people really enjoy seeing such disgusting sh%t? Movies aren't art anymore.
4/10. Could have been a 5 but the ending was f^cking ridiculous. You'll see what I mean, as I'm sure you'll watch it.
