The Jungle Book 2 (2003)
A trashy remake
On a scale from 0 to 10 this would be 1 because I enjoyed the new main theme. Aside from that it is repetitive, a project with no soul just to grant easy money. The animation is done well and most of the old carachters appear more as a tribute to the original film then for actual narrative needs. Very odd the pack is not mentioned not displayed and Bagheera has a very marginal role as a troublemaker.
It marks a clean break from the intent of chosing one of the two worlds and solves it by having jungle animals and kids meeting on a daily basis to play (utterly ridiculous development spoiling the morals of thr first installment).
Lastly, Shanti's carachter (the fetching-water girl) is so irritating that I would rather have left her to the imagination as after the first film. Save yourself time and leave this unwanted sequel where it is
Under ConTROLL (2019)
Unpredictably spectacular
I am a huge fan of the original Troll 2 and therefore I met the news that a sequel had finally been released with heavily mixed feelings.
I was delighted to view the output, had I bet I would have lost because this was enjoyable against all the odds! I had a pleasant time and ended up laughing out loud a quite a few times.
The link between this and the first move is quite loose, but hardcore fans like myself will spot plenty of references to the original product to their delight, on top of George Hardy's return in the same role.
König was somehow able to accomplish the impossible job to produce an enjoyable sequel to the once labelled 'worst movie in history.'
The only observation would be that obviously this was produced meant to be bad unlike the first one which was unconsciously terrible, so that element of charm was lost but it would have been impossible to reproduce.
As spectacular as it could possibly be, definitely hitting the 'to bad is good' bullseye!
The Lion King (2019)
it doesn't work
What worked as a cartoon here does not. The lack of expressions due to the cg has successfully managed to wipe out all the emotions brought by the old one, drama, love and jokes all come as ineffective here. Also they avoided making decisions: it begins as a proper remake with identical scenes to the original one, and then it changes. I think both ways could work but not as a mix, as it made me believe this was a copy and paste remake it made me then disappointed when I realised that some of my favourite scenes had disappeared. I have no reasons to watch this a second time instead of the old one really.
Joker (2019)
Not a masterpiece
The amazing performance of Phoenix distracts from the weak storyline. The film is done very well but the references to Batman are far from what I expected. This could just have been a good psychological drama about a serial killer developed due to a chain of unfortunate events, I can't see how it relates to batman and Gotham city. Joker was also never a simple human. Again Phoenix is amazing in here and will look into how he trained to get into the role, but for me definitely not the masterpiece everyone hails at.
Green Lantern (2011)
Disappointing
While the plot is catchy, the script is weak and the film ends up perceived as a succession of scenes without a clear resolution. Shame, I liked the initial part
