Rites of Passage (2012)
thought provoking
I'm sorry to say I agree with the "Concerned Chumash Citizen"about their plot summary. Being Native myself I can say that many of our cultural beliefs, and spiritual ceremonies are STRICTLY FORBIDDEN to be shown,or talked about publicly. There are good reasons. Many of these traditions, and ceremonial practise's are ancient, and secret, and handed down through generations. Above all they should not be taken lightly,or practised by people who are not experienced. It's not that we are "selfishly keeping them to ourselves"!It's a matter of deep respect for all things spiritual.I have seen with my own eyes the result of doing these kind of things the wrong way,and it's SCARY to say the least. Only certain people trained, and taught in the "Old Ways" are allowed to do ceremonial, and spiritual things. And there's usually something gifted, and special about those who do them. I find it to be disrespectful, and insulting if just anyone does it,and it's embarrassing for our people as well.We respect other people's beliefs,so it's only fair to respect ours.

Sad,beautiful
I am a huge fan of Korean cinema, and this is one of my favourites! This movie touched me,and stayed with me long after it was over. It got me thinking, and any movie which does that is good. Early on as the story gets going,it sort of leads you to think maybe there's something dark, and fearful about the children. As the story slowly unfolds, and the truth reveals itself; it becomes so shocking, and incredulous, that shocks the faint of heart. My deeper thoughts on this movie was how the innocence of children, and their belief in anything. The well being of children when the most basic needs such as love, kindness, and respect is given to them, how healthy they become. And when those simple things are denied the outcome becomes sad. I am a mother, and perhaps that was why I was so affected, but I can't help but think how anyone would be affected. the story was told so beautifully that I was haunted long after it was over. I can honestly say I've never seen a movie quite like this, and still after a few years have not forgotten it.
Gan-gi-nam (2012)
Worth watching!
All right!Another really good Korean movie! The English subs as usual took a while to be released,so unfortunately a lot of people had to wait.I heard a lot online about people watching it anyway, and pretty much getting the point of it,but in my opinion one should wait for the subs. There's a lot of hilarious banter! Especially with the male lead! The female lead was breathtakingly beautiful! The story was mysteriously interesting enough to keep me hooked till the end. With enough twists to make you want the "good-guy" to come out on top.My GOD! Korean cinema has an amazing knack for storytelling unlike anything else, yet unique to themselves, and that's why I've become hooked on it!When a new one is released I obsessively check every day till I can see the next one.For anyone interested-Watch it,give it a chance, and you just might enjoy!
Eungyo (2012)
Eungyo-A Muse
What to say about this movie?First let me say that there are not enough reviews for Korean cinema in my opinion.I an a HUGE fan of Asian cinema, and I wish everyone could see just how good it is!The main aspect I noticed in this movie was "Humanity"in all it's beauty. And this is Korean Cinema in it's finest! The fragility of youth, age, and love is portrayed so artfully is what makes this movie so strong! There were scenes that were so real, even in dreaminess that they took my breath away. The main character"Eungyo"was beautiful without even knowing it.When the movie ended, after a while of silence, and wiping my tears I felt this movie deserved a review, and that I had to honour the creation of it.It's a movie I will never forget, and I was deeply touched.
