Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru (2016)
A candid look at one of Tony Robbins events
With some movies I can go wow, that was really good. With this one I found myself in tears of joy and sadness reflecting on my life and experiencing compassion for others.
I don't know else really to put it other than, to really get this movie/footage of his event, you need to feel it. His life purpose is to get to the bottom line of nearly everything. Watching this movie could be, for the right people, just the jolt they need to take action and do better in life. If so, then he succeeded.
It was well done. I showed an honest view of his most popular seminar experience.
I thought the interviewer at times seemed quite cold, at times of understandable emotion for Tony and others. I do however thank the director and producer(s) and all involved for making this. It was awesome!
Love Is All You Need? (2012)
One of the most important films for current times...
Yes it is fairly low budget and the acting is not "perfect" however if you are straight like me and ALLOW yourself to go there, to imagine this world exists and put yourself in the shoes of if you were gay and the outcast and the loneliness and the pain that could occur.
If you allow this to happen within you, you may have an awakening like I did.
I live in an area that is predominantly Christian and people often only act Christian when it is easy to do so. The real test is to see others out in their daily routine.
Let me say this, there are few actual "saints" out there.
I bawled like a baby watching this, especially towards the end.
If this movie moves you, share it!
We need to LOVE people. This world needs it desperately. Even a smile can change someones day.
Apocalypto (2006)
Nothing like this film out there
I watched this last night for the first time and I am still in awe. I don't know how Mel Gibson made this film. It really astounds me. All native American actors in most of the film.
I won't write much about the movie though I will say that it takes you somewhere else, to an ancient mindset. An odd and sometimes strange yet wonderful mindset of an ancient culture.
There are characters that we can love, have concern for, see importance of family and of community and even humor. Also they hunt, they kill animals and live off the land.
There are heartbreaking scenes and others that are truly inspiring.
It seems that intelligent cultures have the tendency to control or dominate other cultures that are less advanced. This is present in this film.
I would call Mel a mad genius. There is often a borderline between high intelligence and madness.
A movie has not moved me as much as this film, in a long time.
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
The high ratings for this movie is saddening. Hours of my life I cannot retrieve.
Yes a give it a flat out 1. 1 has (awful) next to it and that is what this movie is in every way.
So many people just love this film. If you are considering watching it be prepared for violence without conscience, gang rapes, dialog you will not understand, more violence without conscience, more gang rapes (with all the men clothed and of course the woman nude and trying to fight for her life) which is very disturbing.
Basically a group of guys that live with utter hate for everything, hang out and some twisted bar where all the coffee tables are statues of nude women spread and ready for sex.
There is not one individual in this movie that has any redeeming qualities of a decent human being whatsoever.
The main villain gets caught and is submitted to experimental techniques to help him detest or fear ever doing crime again.
This film was such an utter waste of a few hours. Many more will probably want to watch this film to see what the hype is all about.
This movie is filth, drizzle, swill.. get my point?
Kubrick loves hate and violence, loves the overuse of sex.
So many people think he was a genius, and that this film was a masterpiece. I have just come to the conclusion that there are some people out there, well many, that cannot get enough violence, acts of hatred, acts of defiance, acts that are shocking. What empty lives these people must have. Then they try find how deep this movie is and the various deep meanings. THERE AREN'T ANY. It is a mess. Chaos. A bunch of characters with no redeeming qualities.
Kubrick believed mankind was born violent and hateful. To each their own.
Very simply put, this movie is sick, twisted, hateful, disgusting, and people love it. What a shame.
The One Percent (2006)
Excellent movie. Helped shed some light on some things that have bothered me for years.
First of all I am not going to critique how well I think this film was made. It was an independent film and low budget, but the content was very interesting to me.
How one views this film will depend on, for one, what financial bracket they fall into and how they view money. I love the reviewer that basically said the film maker was a socialist, just like the Nobel prize winner in this film does.
I'm sorry but no matter how intelligent the Nobel prize winner is (I don't remember his name and it doesn't really matter to me) in this film, he did not seem to possess what I consider to be much more important than some great ideas. He did not seem to possess much compassion or caring for humanity in general. He seemed to be very proud of his own theories and of capitalism that is so obviously failing in America.
So perhaps I speak to the middle class or poor when I write this review, if IMDb even allows it to be posted. This is the kind of film whose time has come. Today is April 4th 2011. There is a huge gap between the rich and more importantly decision makers and the fading middle class and poor in this country. This is happening in other countries as well and of course has been happening all throughout history.
This movie is more than a rich kids guilt trip. It is his acknowledgement that something is wrong. He doesn't feel right about it and is trying to do something about it despite how much it might shake things up. The family image. The images of other families.
The fear that the rich seem to have and the need to have more. It is crazy. It is repulsive to me. A kind of thinking I cannot understand.
All I will say is this. It is just a matter of time, in America, before enough people get fed up, and yep I am talking about the fading middle class and the poor. And if the rich think they are scared now, they have no clue what is about to come. This isn't a threat. It is just what I am pretty sure about to happen, yep, I'll say it, revolution.
