The Guilty (2021)
Remake vs. Reimagining
Americans aren't Nordic Europeans in any sense - cultural, economic, political, psychological. With that in mind, using same story doesn't make one film remake if it's done from completely different socio-cultural perspect
ive. This is obviously reimagining, and as such is standalone work of art that doesn't need any comparison to be given objective ratning.
This is great film and IMHO deserves 9.
Small Crimes (2017)
Glad I didin't follow my "six star rule"
I usually don't pay attention to sub 6* movies, but love Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, so I took a chance with this movie. I'm so glad I did, because this is absolutely great flick. Great actors. great photography. Good story. Very Good directing.
This is probably my first or second review ever and only did it because it's completely nonsense that this move has sub 6* rating! i don't understand why! This is above 8* flick!
Joker (2019)
Film like no other
One needs to be at the top of its craft to make film like this. I'm struggling to find excuse why I didn't give it 10/10. It's just I don't believe in perfection that 10/10 represents, but this masterpiece is as close as it gets. 9.99999/10.
Didn't believed Joakim could top his Master performance, but Joker is on different level. This is hard film, but it's riveting at the same time. It's so immersive like no other comic book based movie.
Photography is hypnotic. This is the best version of Gotham City ever. Script is so layered and "tight". No silly nonsense and holes. Directing is the definition of craft. Tod is in league of its own. Casting is flawless. Main role is wow! Just wow! As someone wrote "the hype is real". It's magical. Yet disturbing. Uncomfortable, but fascinating. I need to see it again, I want to see it again, but I'm not sure I have mental strength, because this is not fun go out flick for idling brain. This movie will light up all of your gray cells.
Ad Astra (2019)
Who are you matters for this movie
Disclaimer: This is my first IMDB review.
1. This is not sci-fi opera or action flick. 2. This is not son - father relationship movie. Those things do exist in film and are great, but they are all just setups for movie to work as a medium. This movie is about self reflection that's inevitable fo any middle age man. So if you're not over 40, and struggling about who you are, why you are and what have you sacrificed to be that person up until that point in life, this movie will suck for you as it is evident by so many low scores and lousy reviews.
I've seen movie with two of my buddies also middle age as myself, and also sci-fi suckers who regularly moan about physics in sci-fi moves, but after leaving theater all three of us agreed unanimously that this is great movie!
So if you're man under 40 you'll be most probably bored with this movie and there's no point seeing it, or taking your girlfriend or wife to see it, although she might enjoy it more. :D
Bodyguard (2018)
Binged to oblivion
Maybe I'd feel little bit different if I haven't binged this show 'till the sunrise... but boy oh boy that last episode! It's criminal it made me give it 1 star.
Thing is first 5 episodes are really good. it's 8+ stars, yeah that good. But finale... it's disaster. It had killed bunch of my brain cells. it's one of those shows that made you hate yourself for bingeing until the end! If you want my advice, don't bother watching since ending is what it is, and will completely ruin your experience.
