Night of the Punks (2010)
A fast, bloody, and entertaining ride.
I saw this short at the Sacramento horror film festival last night and I absolutely loved it. It had the crowd laughing and cheering throughout, and I would love to see it again.
It follows the story of one small Indy punk band going to what they think is just another gig. Without spoiling too much, the result is essentially the band members fighting off a horde of demons to survive.
The filmmakers lovingly recreate horror movies from the 80's, as well as bringing a contemporary horror/comedic feel that is very similar in tone to Shaun of the Dead. It's just as fun too, the special effects and gore in this short are fantastic, they look top notch and had the audience squirming in their seats. The script is tightly written featuring what has god to be the most memorable one liners from any short film. The characters are fun and likable, each are unique and are played convincingly by the young cast.
Overall, this is a fantastic short. An audience member made a comment after the film to the director that they would like to see a feature length version of this film. And I completely agree, I loved the story, and I loved the characters. and seeing these characters in an expanded story/film would be amazing.
IF you have a chance to go see this short, I highly recommend it.
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
The longest two hours of your life
this movie, is by no means bad it is revolutionary for its time and has one of the best endings in history, one that even when you find out exactly what it means, you still wonder just what the director was trying to say. The ending stays with you for days, weeks, you can't stop thinking about it.
the other thing you can't stop thinking about is how long this friggen movie is. After what feels like yo reached the three and a half hour mark, u look and and see that it is only a two hour movie, and you are only an hour into the movie that is a sad, sinking feeling my friends.
the beginning is very interesting, and the ending is fantastic the middle is what i have problems with. at first the main focus was about the black monoliths, for about 40 minutes, thats all its showed or talked about then dave come along and all that changes. Now its up to dave to stop his spazzed out computer friends HAL.
Now looking back, HAL had actually no reason to be in the film except for letting the audience know why dave is the sole survivor of that ship.
To top it off, the whole time, there is barley any music, just dave talking to monotone HAL, and boring as hell SOUNDLESS SHOTS THAT LAST MINUTES in space, i know there is no sound in space, but can't you add music to it like you did in the beginning of the movie? despite this, the HAL moments were actually entertaining, it just was a little boring at times.
This is the only reason why i did not give it a perfect score, it has this huge epic feel to it, yet the only thing that is epic about it was the beginning and the very end, the middle, well is just dull, and the only reason one maintains interest in the movie is for kubricks awe inspiring shots Some movie has about 3 good money shots, 2001 is RIDDLED WITH THEM, one cant watch 2 minutes without an incredible shot! overall, a good movie, weird but good ending, incredible shots, but the middle lags ebough to be nit pick about
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
One of the best movies i have ever seen!
A clockwork Orange, is a tour DE force of sounds and images. Never has the optical illusion of motion with the mixture of sounds that is movies, affected me so much. I came in, expecting the strange, the sublime, i heard many things about this movie and had high expectations. But after i was done watching, it didn't have that much of an impact on me, i thought it was OK, i did not get the message at the time, butthe next week, i watched it again, and i got it, i got the message, i understood the genius! the next day i watched it again, and after that day i became in love with this movie! Stanley Kubrick's best! he takes this movie by the reigns and steers it into the perfect movie. the images in this movie, while not as epic as 2001 a space odyssey, our still certainly incredible! the scene of Alex and his droogs will stay with you for ever! speaking of Alex, Malcom Mcdowell is incredible, he steals the show, the dialog that he speaks is odd and captivating.
the music is mesmerizing, its hypnotic, classical music playing opposite such "ultra-violence" is not the type of music one would first think of for this type of movie. As for the violence, it is not that violent now, in fact it isn't, back then people were over exaggerating! they had grind house movie worse than this all the time! the real main problem is the rape scenes. There is a lot of it, and i can see why people would find it disturbing, but to me, the way they are shot, makes them just one of the things to love about this movie.
Most directors give you all the answers, so that you can understand the whole movie the first time you see it. Not kubrick. The first time you see this movie, you are tooo distracted by the weirdness of this film to tkae anything out. But the second time trhough, its much more clear.
overall i have seen this movie many times and it never gets old, it is a classic, and one of the best films ever made!
Iron Man (2008)
NICK FURY IS IN THSI MOVIE!!!!!! and it should be called tony stark instead of iron man
first off stay after the credits to see nick fury, he talks about how tony stark isn't the only superhero in the world, which makes sense cuz tony is in the incredible hulk.
anyway just got back from the theaters and all i can say was that it was pretty good.
i liked robert downey jr. and jeff bridges a lot. Terrance howard didn't do much and gweneth palrow bugged me a lot! anyway to sum things up ice and neatley, The movie showed very little of iron man, it needed more action, downey jr. stole the show and the director knew that making the focus more on TONY stark than IRON man himself so the movie should be entitled TONY STARK instead of iron man if their was more action this would be a perfect movie, but sadly it isn't i liked it but probably wont be seeing it again.
Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008)
this movie is funny, but too bad i couldn't laugh
i actually have not seen in a LONG time a movie that made me laugh hard, the first harlod and kumar didn't make me laugh hard, but i still love that movie, and this one didn't make me laugh hard, but i still like it i guess.
i mean the only things i truly laugh hard at is when im hanging out with my friends or stupid viral videos, and nothing on the big screen could ever compare to the insane conversations i have with my friends that aside the movie made me smile throughout, cringe at moments ( cock meat sandwich comes to mind) Some parts were bad and seemed like it is impossile to laugh but i managed to not laugh, just smile Neil Partick Harris' shroom trip with the unicorn should have been funnier to me, and i made myself laugh so taht i wouldn't feel out of place with my friends who were laughing tere asses off i giggled, kind of chuckled at a lot of parts but never completely luaghed but i cant blame this movie, or can i? i mean its my fault that I don't find movies funny anymore so when i review comedies i cant judge on how much i luaghed, but on how the people around me laugh.
but then again, i am usually dying from laughter on these stupid viral videos, so i still have a sense of humor but normal movies just cant satisy my craving for humor.
good things about this movie, the actors playing harlod and kumar are great. They seem like real friends and are fun to watch.
The originality and its tendency to go TOO far is always fresh.
so it is something that i can assure will amuse many, most people in fact.
but im just the odd one out i guess.
one day i hope there's a movie that i don't have to FORCE myslef to laugh.
Transformers (2007)
the best summer movie ever serially!
i came into this movie expecting a lot and tahnx to the advertising of this film, which barley showed any action, my already high expectations were met! first off the special effects are the best i have ever seen, and the last battle in the city has to be one of the best action scenes ever! no im not an effin campainer, this movie has been out for a year i don't think it needs any more campianing anyway, good cast for the most part except for the three computer nerds, lead by that Australian chick, they were pointless shia labeouff, is the same as always which is a good thing, hes funny and makes the robots believable megan fox is hot, and that alone makes her a good actress LOL anyway i was never a fan of the show, and im still not a fan of the show or toys i just love this movie though if u haven't seen it, why the hell not!
Doomsday (2008)
a piece of crap best not seeing
this is literally one of the worst films i have ever seen it completely RIPPED off at least 6 different movies, in fact i'm almost positive they used stock footage from mad max to save time, thata how similar it was! i am pretty sure they said the main characters name ONCE, and didn't even mention the names of the other cast! the action was stupid and boring, nothing new and everything old! there was no gore at all, and the only good rip off they had the one about zombies, guess what, they barley used that plot! yup just a heap of steaming crap unfit for even the most mediocre of audiences the only reddeming quality is the overacting of the main bad guy with the mowhak, Sol i think his name was anyway do not go see this movie!
