This show ran on CBS, either right before or right after "Freshman Dorm". Unfourtunately, I've read the propaganda prepared by the show publicity department, I Feel qualified to pass judgment on it. Produced by the ubiquitous Aaron Spelling, the show stars a veritable bevy of has-beens who were on the comeback trail in 1992. Jennifer Beals ('Flashdance' came 7 years before), Drew Barrymore (who we all now love), and the tasty snack Brian Bloom (who at the time was conspicuously absent from his roles in soap operas three years prior to this), the poorly dressed Lisa Hartman and some chick named Tuesday Knight. Lisa plays a retired prostitute who gets some boarders so she can afford her knockout house on the beach. Jennifer Beals is an attorney whose fiancé had recently died. Drew plays an aspiring actress (how fitting considering her reputation back then). I, for one, can't wait for this to be released on DVD. There's nothing like a show about plastic California people to help you forget your woes! B+

Babycakes (1989 TV Movie)
10/10
Yay!
7 March 2005
I have this movie taped from the early 90's off of the lifetime channel, before lifetime became as pathetic as it now is. This movie rocks! it is a definite favorite of mine. It is heartwarming, charming, and hilarious. my best friends are all like the character of keri! but more importantly, Ricki Lake is so great! she plays the role of a lonely twenty-something so well! and it strikes a nerve for anyone that is fat and has had troubles getting the perfect guy to notice you. it is a true picture of what some people will do (i.e. me) in times of desperation! It's funny at the same time. such as the cute way ricki continually bumbles around is clumsy. i guess that might just be part of the role, however, it really makes me giggle and take awe. my boyfriend and i cuddle up and watch this movie a lot during the winter, it is a great blizzard movie! make some s'mores and get some cocoa, this movie will match the warmth you start feeling! the character of rob, played by the very beautiful craig sheffer, is a fun thing too. he's a very charming person, and it's so good that grace ends up getting a guy like rob and not someone like olivia!

The Outsiders (1983)
4/10
heart warmingly poo-tastic
6 October 2004
i originally thought "the outsiders" was a great movie. that was also in jr. high, now in college, i must say that this movie does not compete with other movies. it follows the book to an extreme and the lines and scenes feel forced. catchphrases flourish in this movie but the lines, "Stay Gold" and "This one's for Johnny!" are the most remembered. Matt Dillon was a very cheesy actor in his earlier career, and though this movie hosts a whole lot of popular names it isn't worth seeing... unless you are very hard up for some barely pg-13 young rob Lowe cleavage. the movie has a good heart but shouldn't be taken seriously by anyone above the age of 16. it was made in the early eighties, takes place in the early sixties, and was written in the mid-sixties. the movie ages well for its heavy load of cheese, but that shouldn't convince anyone to buy it, rent it only if hard pressed between porky's and James and the giant peach. also, though most was filmed in California the Oklahoma scenes are present. the white trash remarks are good but the white trash twang is over done, even if you are like me and come from a family like johnny and pony-boy's... yeah, this movie also leaves the very inspirational name of pony-boy for us to gawk, cherish, and ridicule at the same time. 4/10 rating

Cookie (1989)
9/10
as the cookie crumbles...
21 July 2004
i bought this movie at a random video rental store about three months ago because on the back of the box it explained the movie to be like desperately seeking susan. when i went home and watched the movie i laughed, i gagged, i pondered... i noticed there are five key points to this movie. 1.) directed by nora ephron, who brought us "hanging up", "sleepless in seattle", and "you've got mail", "cookie" is some what a coming of age story about a girl named cookie. She is in a mixed up family, basically she's the result of an affair her dad had with a single woman. and when her dad comes back she's forced to grow-up and accept her family 2.)in the beginning she strolls around new york city with her best friend Pia, who is played by the fantastic rikki lake, "babycakes", "cry baby", "hairspray". Eventually Pia is forgotten about in the movie as it becomes angled toward her family issues. 3.) the family issues are SO stupid. her dad comes back from jail after about 15 years and realizes he no longer is big and important to the MAFIA scene any more. how stupid... the father is horribly portrait, and is just all around stupid, not funny at all. 4.) after cookie starts working for father she meet vito, an incredibly sexy guy, with whom i now love, and though cookie keeps messing up vito and her eventually end up together. 5.) this is what makes this a fairly good movie... at the end where they fake the father's death cookie wakes up with vito and a song comes in. it is the song "should be so lucky" by kylie minogue, my anthem! and really the soundtrack is fairly good, so i do recommend seeing this movie its a solid 7 of 1-10.

Eight Days a Week (I) (1997)
8/10
an 8 for eight days a week
27 March 2004
this is a very good movie, i thought it would be so pathetic and stupid though for the longest time, so i never rented it. but peter is an adorable, "real-life" character, and erica is okay too. i love that matt is devoted to his friend, but it would have been better if matt had been gay, with peter as his love intrest. the music is sub-par, and nothing special, but not detestingly bad or anything. a great coming of age movie for anyone. this movie is truly 6 or 7 seven years before its time. i don't know how this movie did in the box office or anything since i was merely 10 when it came into theaters but if it were to come out now it would be an enormous success. sad thing is that that is the last thing, tv or movie that josh schaeffer (peter) ever did, i wonder why? but anyway i whole-hearted suggest and recommend this movie to anyone not sure to rent it or buy or what-not. VERY-VERY GOOD! and i thought that it would be bad because it had keri russell in it, how wrong i was... you won't regret it, watch it!

Welcome Freshmen (1991–1993)
classic rarity from my childhood
23 March 2004
i remember when this show was on the air along with other grand shows like "hi, honey i'm home", and "clarissa explains it all". the golden oldies of nickelodeon... *tear, how i miss them so! this show lived longer than "hi honey..." and about, if even, half of the time "clarissa..." i remember the merv, safety advice, because merv was a little runt, and grant was the smart black guy who wore a lot of white and light lime green, and walter was a gross, white trash kid, i believe alex was really popular, and possibly a cheerleader, and erin was the good-girl that was very nature-friendly. mr. lippman, was a nearly bald skinny principal whose boss-man was always breathing down his neck. i can't really remember the begining song like most people usually always remember, but i do remember that this group of people were considered the under-classmen, hence the name, and were looked down upon and teased by the upper-classmen. they also always sat around this little indoor tree thing with steps around the sides, it was their hang-out place. a very good show, i miss it greatly even though i was only in 2nd grade when it was on.

True Stories (1986)
david byrne's commercial for his band
21 February 2004
"true Stories" is an excellent movie for people into '80's retrograde. it is narrated by david byrne, but i still don't understand how he knows everyone and how they can talk to him without a name. john goodman sings karaoke and wears a lot of baby blue outfits, truly making this movie worth renting, but not buying unless you are just a big fan of david byrne, the talking heads, or john goodman, but don't pay much for it. swoosie kurtz plays a unique millionaire who hasn't stepped out of bed for ten years and is the true entertainment of this movie though byrne's blantant, dry, sarcastic charm does make you want to just love him forever. like the tag-line, it is a cool multi-purpose movie. the type you would watch when in a slump and there is nothing better to do. :)
