Las chicas del cable (2017)
Will not continue SOLELY due to wrong choices in music
The storyline is OK-I even thought I'd appreciate it more because I worked for the phone company for 15 years. But why ruin it with incorrect period music? It really detracts from the story and maybe I am more sensitized because I am an American and Hollywood has spoiled us with better aligned choices---I just can't see aggravating myself trying to watch such an incongruous effort. Sorry actors.
San shao ye de jian (2016)
Great movie, great costumes,Wuxia
Loved this movie ~ did I understand it all? nope - but I loved it anyway. The dramatic costumes made this so much fun and a little romance made it enjoyable for someone like me who doesn't know all the Asian innuendo.
Ricky Gervais: Humanity (2018)
Social media affects humour
I love Ricky Gervais because he says what he wants - and usually in a pretty fun way. People really are basically stupid and that's partly why he's so funny - and gets everyone to look and even laugh at themselves.Pay attention to what you take away from this - that's part of life's lessons.
Sherlock Holmes (2010)
This is not a Holmes/Watson movie to watch as such
Why this was written as a Sherlock Holmes movie I will never understand. No fault to the actor but every one knows Holmes should at least be taller than Watson ~ that was my first clue to major disappointment. And for Mycroft to be totally evil and not be upset when Sherlock is shot dead - don't worry, he wasn't - was another ridiculous character assassination. As for the rest of the story it would have been much more interesting to have mechanical dinosaur monsters, including the giant octopus and dragon interacting with new hero/villain characters. I feel like the writer was just too lazy to do real character development. Bummer.
Cold Case: Strange Fruit (2005)
A 1963 timepiece portraying B&W racism at home and the job.
Good acting, good story, good placement of details. Besides the usual insightful flashbacks ColdCase employs, I found this episode to be well supported by the choice of music and the timing of MLK's speech to the beating and subsequent death of Zeke Williams, a ploy that I would normally find corny and trite somehow works. Touching on all the tough issues of B&W racism, it accurately portrays the 'slightly' more subtle prejudices of the North. Mathilde's rape serves as a steppingstone to illustrate the complexities of relationships between the races. Tough love and self-preservation run neck and neck in a losing race to save family and Zeke's life. This episode is an excellent medium to encourage discussion about racism and how it plays out in real life. I would love to know if anyone knows the name of the last song played and the singer. Simply a beautiful closing to a tragic tale.
