Serenity (2005)

A good beginning.

If you are fan of movies like star wars then you will definitely definitely like Serenity. It has powerful script. All characters are very well presented in the movie.

Performances of two main characters Nathan Fillion as somewhat confused spaceship commander and Chiwetel Ejiofor as smooth talking assassin were good but rest were OK and not that special.

The only downfall of the movie is that it has no star actor and it is neither from some famous director. For a movie to be financially hit across the world it would need some face or some name to represent it for publicity. And this movie lacked exactly that. In fact myself never heard of it till I searched movies on IMDb with rating as sorting criteria. Unfortunately as movie did bad financially we may not have any sequel to this.

This movie is absolutely worth watching in my opinion 9/10.

Predators (2010)

Nothing great.

Predators bears lot of similarity to the first predator movie. The theme of the movie the background music etc were similar to the first predator movie. The only difference was the environment and some new breeds of predator. One can easily predict who will survive in the end and the rest of the cast will die. It was funny to see Brody changing his voice and sounding somewhat like Clint Eastwood. Danny Trejo was wasted as I think he could have been given a little bigger role otherwise the casting was OK.

All in all this was an OK addition to the series.

I give it 5/10.

The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Best of all time!!!

This is the best movie I have ever seen. In a way I feel I am in a prison of life myself. Restricted to doing certain things. Sometimes I get frustrated and feel as I should runaway to some place where I could feel free. I hope and dream for it sometime. This movie just reminds me of my feelings so much. I love Andy Dufresne most in this movie. Although critics say Tim Robbins didn't do enough to express the character but my personal opinion is that he was made for this role.

I can go on and say more but I said the most important thing which I feel whenever I watch it.

I am glad to visit IMDb. I never heard of it before. Some 7 years ago I saw it at no.2 in the rankings and decided to watch it immediately. Only other movie which even comes close to this is Citizen Kane. But that is about past and this one is about hope and freedom.

I give it 11/10.

Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983)

An Indian Masterpiece

I don't know if this movie is best Indian movie but I also don't know if there is any Indian movie better than this.

(1)This movie has the best casting in Indian movie history including Naseeruddin, Om puri, pankaj kapoor, Ravi Baswani(a surprise and great performance from him), Satish shah, Satish Kaushik, Deepak Qazir(another surprising performer), Bhakti Barve, Rajesh Puri - All at their best. (2)Very few people must have noted the background music. So simple but yet so effective for the movie. Great music!!! . A great usage of song "Hum honge kamyab" also. (3)Arguably the best comedy movie I have ever seen(may be Andaz apna apna is a close contender in Hindi cinema). But this movie is full of memorable scenes that you can even remember the whole movie. Not just comedy it has murder, mystery and some horror also.

Apart from all this the subject of the movie is very very important. It just tells that our legal(law) system itself has the biggest corruption(back then in 1980s & even now) so it is very hard for common men to get justice or to fight against corruption. In fact it may be the case in any country.

This is by far the best black comedy movie I have ever seen.

Truly an Indian Masterpiece!
