Slipstream (1989)
Finally a decent release, if only on streaming
I love this film!
I was one of the few who saw it in the cinema back in 89 as a young teenager. Been waiting ever since for it to have decent release, now finally, on its 35th anniversary, it gets a release on streaming platforms.
9 is my score due to nostalgia, but will probably be less for most.
Still, you get Mark Hamill as the bad guy, chasing the ever good Bill Paxton, along with Bob Peck ("Clever girl" from Jurassic Park). You also get appearances from Robbie Coltrane, F Murray Abraham and Ben Kingsley.
Some of the effects stand out and look unfinished, but overall I think it's a good looking film, especially now since you can actually see what's happening on-screen. Time to bin all those horrible US public domain DVDs.
Since its the 35th anniversary I was hoping for a nice Blu-ray release, while dreaming about a 4K release. But this'll do for now I suppose.
Wolf Hollow (2023)
Bad in almost every way.
The few 10/10 reviews here are obviously from people involved with the film, related to people who are or were part of the crowd fund. It's not even close, not even in the horror genre alone, or even the werewolf genre. It's bad.
Good for the makers for getting their film made, but more time should have been spent on the script, especially the dialogue. Way too talky for it's own good.
The cinematography isn't great either, often finding the camera placement in awkward positions, giving a very messy feel to scenes.
I understand that it's a crowd funded film and had a very low budget, but the script should have been worked on a lot more and fine-tuned before deciding to green light the thing.
Like I said, congratulations to all involved on getting a film made. But next time, spend a helluva lot more time on the script, it's one of the most important aspects of any film.
Best of luck in the future.
