Hawkeye: Ronin (2021)
Great for the most part
Great story and very nice to see more of Yelena and there's some great scenes with her, but this episode also lies a little.
Reindeer is tender and lean. Whoever wrote that bit can't ever have tasted it. Not really important to the plot (at all), but still.
Having a reindeer dinner is actually a Christmas tradition of mine. A very delicious tradition!
Dungeons & Dragons (2000)
It's sh*t, but it's a wonderfully nice sh*t
Almost everything about this production sucks or is at least well below standard, but it's done with love and devotion and that shines through.
Expect nothing, then lower your standards a bit more and you'll probably love this film.
This is a film to watch if you're more than averagely interested in this genre and have a very open mind.
It wouldn't hurt if you'd made a few short films yourself as a hobby filmmaker. You'd appreciate the effort and be more able to enjoy the good parts.
Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)
Bogus!
After watching the previous 2 films.
Evil Bill: Not bad...
Evil Ted: Yeah. Let's make it bad.
Dominion (2015)
Interesting, especially if you are a storyteller or budding filmmaker
This has an undeservedly low score. I think most people went into it with the wrong expectations. If you think this'll be comparable to the best Hollywood sci-fi then yes I do understand the 1's, but it was never meant to be that.
Most people who gives 1's complain it's too slow, well I appreciated the slow pace from a storytelling perspective. Not everything has to be fast paced and explosions.
The acting wasn't great, but mostly ok. The effects were sometimes quite ...well... laughable. The choices the characters made was smarter than most A-type sci-fi horrors, but there were some stupid choices as well. Maybe a bit too much information in a short time. It could have been better as a mini-series of sort as 2 full length films.
ENTERING SPOILER TERRITORY
Some people complain about the start didn't make sense when the full film was viewed, At first I agreed, but when I wnt back back and watched the beginning again, it totally made sense, though it was massively misleading.
EXITING SPOILER TERRITORY.
If you enjoy slow pace and a narrative over action you should watch it. However you should not go into it expecting something great, but as something than can be appreciated if you're the right kind of person for it. Film students for example I think can enjoy this. They won' be blown away, but htey can appreciate the effort.
Stargirl: Icicle (2020)
DAMN! That's impressive Norwegian
I've never heard a non native speaker (especially in acting) pronounce Norwegian that well. the writers biffed the natural grammar and flow a bit though (sønnen min instead of min sønn... or son mine instead of my son, but wow. GOOD job!)
Of course the son follows up later in the episode with ABSOLUTE gibberish and the mom with what sounds like more Danish, but grandpa Jim France absolutely nails it.
Also I continiue to love the work of Luke Wilson. If you haven't seen idiocracy, then now's the time. It feels VERY relevant!
Star Trek: Picard: Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 2 (2020)
Biffed it
The series was great until Picard decided to be a traitor to all organic life. (happy he died, disappointed (but not surprised) they brought him back.)
Even if the portal closed the signal was sent and the super synths should be on their way to exterminate everyone. That is unless the writers are massive idiotic hypocrites. Soooo I'll assume we never hear of the super synths again.
The Orville: Identity, Part II (2019)
Stupid
The Cylon, opps sorry Kaylon should be ripped apart. I sat saying to myself the entire episode "if they try to redeem him...."
And they did... predictable and very very stupid
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Spoilers
The idea going from Judgment day is inevitable to the saviour is inevitable makes this load of trash utter trash even before you consider all the other things. It's a betrayal of Terminator 1 and 2. Avoid.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Great film, not Epic, but great.
This was a LARGE step up from Last Jedi which for fairness sake I will admit to thinking was decent despite some massively bad moments.
Trying not to spoil anything I'll sad the bad moments in Last Jedi still bug me, but the things I disagreed with in Rise of Skywalker is kinda ok with me.
A worthy end to the sequel trilogy.
