This film will fill you up with joy. Great music, songs, voice actors, flawless animation with a touch of magic. We all dream of becoming popular for one reason or another but what price are you willing to pay for your popularity? Thelma is here to remind us that we are beautiful just the way we are! When you believe in yourself, the rest of the world will believe in you too! The colorful narration takes you on a different dimension where everybody has her/his own peculiar personality ... far from standardised perfection but so uniquely brilliant. This is not just a movie for kids but a little gem for all!

Wake up!
6 May 2024
For those sci-fi lovers who enjoy mind bending plots, this is definitely a must see. The atmosphere is eerie and dreamlike just like most of the characters in this show. It's a mystery within a mystery within a mystery and you don't really know what's really going on until the very end so you'll find yourself completely mesmerised by its convoluted beauty and avidly wanting more and more. The acting is brilliant too and the music play a fundamental role in the entire series. From excellent high quality horror movie style synth music to classical piano you will be abducted into a surreal dimension where art and madness cohabit hand in hand. An eye opener, in every sense!

A piece of heart!
18 April 2024
I knew nothing about this movie but I was intrigued by its title because it reminded me of John Lennon's song.

The acting is outstanding especially from the boy playing the addict: Nick. As I don't have any children, it never occurred to me of the odyssey that family and friends of people with addictions have to go through. I was a child in the 1970s, growing up in a small industrial town near Milano, in Italy. I remember seeing so many young heroine addicts collapsed in the streets, they used to steal everything. I was so terrified I promised myself never to use heavy drugs and so I did. However, the culture of drinking and taking drugs has always been there even in developing countries where you presume people to have less existential crisis compared to the achievement-oriented West. Yet, in many cultures, some drugs are connected to spirituality such as smoking hashish for Indian sadhus or drinking ayahuaska with the curanderos of the Amazon. Organized societies may make us feel less insecure during our brief permanence in this life but truth to be told, the only way out of our collective nightmare is to return to our heart and stop listening to our fearful ego. Love is the reason why we are here and our home should be in our heart rather than our head.

Excellent season 1, boring season 2!
14 March 2024
I watched the first season without knowing anything about the plot let alone the actors involved in it. The first season is brilliant with lots of humour, adventure, magic, cutting edge technology for those times, herbal medicine and poison spirits and so forth. For those who are not acquainted with Chinese historical dramas, there are basically two types called wuxia and xianxia. Wuxia is about martial art heroes while xianxia is about immortal heroes namely fantasy historical dramas. The xianxia genre is based primarily on Taoism and sometimes Buddhism as well. Generally speaking, there are three realms: the demon realm, the mortal realm and the immortal realm (Heaven). Every realm have different categories but don't be fooled by origins because not all demons are bad and not all immortals are good. Humans in the mortal realm can decide to become immortals by joining a sect and practising cultivating immortality. In Noble Aspirations (The Legend of Chusen) two boy children are given to a sect of immortals after every single person in their village mysteriously get brutally slaughtered. The entire first season is about a group of youngster who have to go down the mountain for the first time to gain experience in the mortal realm. It's a wonderful adventure with magic everywhere, mystery, unlike alliances, romance and martial arts. I strongly recommend the first season if you are into fantasy adventure shows. However , the second season is completely disappointing !

The Last of Us (2023– )

Give us more!
14 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
As a middle aged woman, the last of my thoughts was to watch a zombie movie but then, I stumbled into this and I got instantly hooked. Every single character is unique and visibly broken, after all is a post apocalyptic movie so it makes perfect sense unlike the avalanche of cheap horror movies where they all look healthy and with their hair always in place. The atmosphere is so depressing that the pain of every single character is almost palpable. Joel and Ellie did an outstanding job in showing their fear and anger but so did the other characters. This is not a zombie story though the undead are like that due to a virulent pandemic infection. When global tragedies like that happens, the true nature of a human is revealed. At the very beginning, Joel is running away by car with his daughter and his brother, along the way they see a family of 3 with a little child desperately asking for help but Joel refuses to help them thus condemning them to certain death at night in a place crowling with infected. It may be a coincidence or fate but soon after he will have to experience the death of his own daughter. This series is a journey into rock bottom feelings yet, when you are lost in the darkness seek for the light. A masterpiece in every single aspect: thank you for giving us this. I want more!

One (great) woman show!
14 March 2024
The plot may be a little sinister but Milly Bobby Brown's performance took it to a completely new level. All actors and actresses did an excellent job in portraying their character however Milly had to cover a moltitude of different emotions and feelings for most of the film. For example, when she was lost and scared, she looked lost and scared; when terrified, she looked incredibly terrified; when outraged she looked ready to kill just by her own glance. Her skill in portraying emotions is outstanding given the fact that she was the only human and couldn't utter a single word to express herself. The story is quite original, actually perfect for a computer or PlayStation game. Throughout the entire movie, the only time when I raised my eyebrows was for the CGI effect when in a couple of occasions the fire and the dragon looked totally fake they almost reminded me of the first original Japanese Godzilla's movies. If you are a gamer like me, you are gonna love this movie but if you are a Walt Disney's fan, just start running and never look back!

UglyDolls (2019)

Inspirational movie for all!
13 March 2024
I've already watched this animation movie 3 times and enjoyed every minute of it. I'm a 56 year old woman who's been pretty much bed ridden for the past five years because of a mysterious disease. The situation has given me a chance to binge watch all sorts of movies and series but for a very few, I'm compelled to rewatch them again as they are a tonic for my beaten up soul. Ugly Dolls is one of them because it is imbued with HOPE. Technically speaking, the animation, the details and the voice over acting are brilliant but what I love the most is the message: never give up! The songs are great too and you'll find yourself singing along without even realising it. Standing ovation for this precious masterpiece which has the power to fill our heart with hope and positivity; two rare pearls that make your own life so much easier. Thank you!

A sci-fi masterpiece
26 February 2024
Finally a great sci-fi story! As all sci-fi lovers know, the genre has been contaminated with an overwhelming amount of special effects, monsters and aliens of any kind as well as unlikely superheroes and a tremendous lack of a proper story. Not in this case! The character building is very well built, as like in other British show, every single one of them is truly human in their behaviour independently from being a human or not. Unlike American sci-fi where there is a clear line which separates the good guys from the bad, in this more realistic British version, they all mess up big time due to different reasons but primarily due to fictitious beliefs and raw feelings such as jealousy. This show deals with human feelings in a way which has never been presented before though some may argue that Blade Runner was probably one of the first movies to deal with android emotions. However, as the movie industry has evolved since the first android show so have our emotions toward them particularly because, in Humans, the synthetics are so similar to us as if we, humans, were suddenly given a chance to see ourselves in a mirror. A mirror that someone would love to smash into pieces because, what emerges from the show is that the truth is not for all!

It lacks momentum!
17 February 2024
What a disappointment! It started great but half way through it I fell asleep. Don't get me wrong, the acting and performances are truly outstanding yet, the story gets boring after a while despite the professionality of the cast. Good singing and dancing but the story lacks momentum. There are not that many characters nor locations so it looks like a budget movie with great expectations. It is not an original movie either as there have been other (and better) interpretations of the same story. My advice to the writers: make something original from scratch!

I really don't understand why movie makers keep making the same movies over and over again while our imagination is limitless and so should be our products. I am not sure how the movie business works but with all the young directors wanting to make movies,we should give priority to those with original ideas.

Hold your breath!
17 February 2024
This series is going to take you to another realm: literally. There have been a few movies about the exploration of human state of unconsciousness and that's not easy task. It reminds me of a song by Billy Eilish "Where do we all go when we fall asleep". The sleep can be at night, during the day or in a coma but it's still a state where we all look unconscious from the outside. However, what's really happening to our consciousness? We know that near death experiencers tell of an incredible realm when their brain scan as well as their heartbit was a flat line according to their surgeons and surgery team so if you are interested in knowing the unknown, watch this series.

Good acting, convincing plot and good visual effects . It needs a sequel!

A jewel!
9 February 2024
I had no clue what this movie was about when I started watching it. From the beginning until the very end, I felt completely absorbed by the story. The title, Slumberland, gives you a hint about the topic but the level of fantasy, the impeccable special effects, the camera movement and clever editing really make this movie a masterpiece in its genre. However, that's not all, the character development, acting and storytelling are top notch as well. I 'm not a teenager but a grown up 56 year old woman who happen to love fantasy movies. I had to watch this film three times to get all the jokes and references. This movie can be sad, hilarious, adventurous and incredibly surprising.

Many of us have shut down our heart because of grief and pain; this movie will teach you why it is so important to open up your heart again. A big thank you to the writers and all those involved in the making of such jewel!

This is kind of magic!
7 February 2024
Before reading this, first make sure you are not dreaming!

A great adventure where not everything is always as it seems. There have been a few movies abou the same subject, notably Inception and Slumberland just to mention a few. There are some interesting points about this movie, first of all it's bilingual German and English, second some dreamy landscapes are stunning. I don't think the producers had a lot of money to spend on special effects however, the outstanding acting and the captivating thriller story really make this movie a little pearl. I assume its target to be teenagers but I am a 56 year old woman and I was literally glued to the screen. If you are into sci fi, mystery and mild horror then you must watch this!

Stereotype galore!
30 January 2024
Disney should realize that in the era of information, neither children nor adults are interested in seeing the old stereotypes being recycled over and over again. I am a 56 yo woman and I love animation movies. There are lovable monsters getting a proper education to become professional scarer, supposedly "evil" characters surrounded by minions, vampire family with adorable in-laws, naughty pets going on adventures while home alone and not to mention a deeply philosophical and eye opening animation movie which talks about the meaning of life after a near death experience. You would expect Disney to create a masterpiece to be in the same league as the aforementioned movies but nope, it's the same warm up soup they have been serving for decades. A perfect goody good girl, a handsome but occasionally moody king, a reserved but compassionate queen and they all sing... Aren't you bored yet? Yeah, the idea seems original but I just couldn't keep my eyes open and I fell asleep. I guess this would have been an amusing story back in the 1930s but for us, animation movie lovers, it's a waste of time!

Cute story!
30 January 2024
At the beginning, the movie seems a bit slow and nothing truly eventful happens. However, the second part is full of surprises, funny and adventurous. The acting, the voice over actors to be precised, did a very good job in impersonating the characters and expressing their emotions. The animation is flawless and carefully executed, some of the characters are truly funny and lovable while the poor cat is pathetic. I guess the cat is meant to be that way but after a while it disturbs the rest of the characters who are perfect in their imperfections. To sum up, it's a cute movie, rather enjoyable in the second half while the first part can be a drag, it's been overstretched.

Life Changer
18 January 2024
I've watched this movie at least 5 times. The first time I was so depressed all I could think about was suicide and it opened my mind. The message is very clear: don't waste your life. The animation is flawless, the story great and the character development very cleverly done. If you feel down or somehow can't make sense of your existence, watch it! Music is also another protagonist of this emotional movie where you laugh and smile at the sound of jazz. Joe is just one of us with a dream and to make his dream come true, he will go through a surreal journey accompanied by an unborn soul who represents innocence. Watch this movie with an open mind and especially, with an open heart.

Dreamy and messy love in the 3 realms.
28 November 2023
Have you ever watched a XIANXIA drama? Basically there are 3 realms: demonic, human, immortal.

XIANXIA is a Chinese fantasy genre characterized by WUXIA (historical, ancient China) elements.

In this particular story, you have a very immersive plot garnished by a great sense of humor, outstanding acting and magic everywhere. The lead characters, two twin girls, have to act to be what they are not because of a confusing accident at the beginning of the story. It's not just a comedy, the visuals are breathtaking with well executed CGI and martial arts fight. If you love fantasy and comedy, don't miss out on this little jewel!

A little jewel!
26 November 2023
The atmosphere in this movie is palpable: a cocktail of nightmarish claustrophobia in a prison like setting. Most horror movies rely on gore and visually shocking scenes to scare the audience but this one, though it's way more subtle than that, will truly make you anxious and terrified. The actors, especially the young protagonists, did an excellent job giving life to a deliberately constructed dead environment. The idea is original and to understand the mystery, you have to watch the movie until the very end. The story is captivating and you won't be able to get away from the screen once you have started watching this film. I highly recommend it to those who enjoy mystery horror with a twist.
