Pond Stars (2014)
Great show they really know how to remedy complex water feature issues!
This is a very interesting show that many other self-proclaimed "experts" could learn from. They work hard to resolve issues that many face when tasked with creating or improving water features. A couple of years ago and even recently I have forwarded info about the show to our local mayor to reach out to them for our local Fountain City Lake that is chronically plagued with issues that their team resolves on a daily basis. To no avail so far, laugh out loud. You will enjoy this show if you like successful creative problem solving.
All the Way Home (1963)
Great Dramatic Presentation. Wonder Performance by Film Great Jean Simmons.
Based on superior American writer James Rufus Agee's (1909-1955) A Death in the Family, this is probably the very best version of the biographical true story. Completed posthumously, the story was awarded a prestigious Pulitzer Prize in 1958. This movie is well crafted with a superior performance by the very talented Jean Simmons. Cinematographically this production will always and forever stand as most accurate as the set location is real life Knoxville, TN in which Agee's childhood took place in the early 1900's. Many of the names and places referenced in the production are the actual names. If you by chance attended the 1982 World's Fair, the scene where the steam train passes is the actual World's Fair site. Enjoy.
Tom Sawyer (1973)
Great Family Film. Superior Casting and Performance. Classic.
Huge Mark Twain fan. In my opinion this is the very best production of Tom Sawyer. Great choreography, costumes, and sets. It does have a musical element but it doesn't detract from the production but instead complements it. The movie does not have a juvenile feel to it could be enjoyed by the entire family. If you enjoy this movie you should check out Huckleberry Finn that features cast reprisals. Enjoy.
Huckleberry Finn (1974)
Classic. Wonderful Standout Performances by Harvey Korman and Tim Conway.
Huge Mark Twain fan. In my opinion this is the very best production of Huckleberry Finn. Great choreography, costumes, and sets. It does have a musical element but it doesn't detract from the production but instead complements it. The movie does not have a juvenile feel to it and could be enjoyed by the entire family but with parental discretion as this deeper cultural issues are explored. If you enjoy this movie you should check out Tom Sawyer. It features cast reprisals and is a bit more lighthearted. Enjoy.
Heart and Souls (1993)
Superior Standout Comedy. Downey and the entire cast deliver!
Surprisingly deep portrayals for a comedy movie by a stellar cast. Well written and well put together. Nice special effects that aren't overwhelming but complementary of the production. One of my favorites. A good family movie one that everyone should be able to watch together comfortably. You will Enjoy.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)
Wonderful Family Movie. Simply a Classic.
One of the great Dick Van Dyke's best performances. Fantastic sets. Wonderful cinematography. Musical component complements and does not overwhelm the production. You can be comfortable watching with the entire family. This movie was so well put together that I thought it had been produced as a feature by Disney Studios. You will enjoy.
For Richer or Poorer (1997)
This is a fantastic comedy movie! Watch when not distracted.
This movie requires your undivided attention. Many of the one liners are off the cuff. If you don't get it you are distracted by something else. Try watching again when you can actually enjoy it. The movie has a congruent cast that complement each other. Evidently very poorly promoted by the studios as it should have been number one for sometime. It is a must have for any comedy movie collection. Kudos to the costume department and the cinematography team as well who did a wonderful job. An easy choice when you need some comic relief.
Scrooge (1970)
Hallmark for ALL other productions of Dicken's Christmas Carol
Huge Charles Dickens fan and to me this is by far the greatest Christmas Carol adaptation of all time. Stellar casting with an incredible performance by Albert Finney who is spot on Ebenezer Scrooge. It seems that all subsequent productions attempt to imitate his wonderful portrayal. Rich period sets. Outstanding cinematography. I don't usually enjoy musicals but this has just enough to complement the dramatic presentation. The production is also well choreographed. Truly a classic adaptation. Simply the very best.
A Death in the Family (2002)
Stellar Casting, Spot-on Dramatization. Based on a True Story.
The casting was great and includes a stellar performance by one of America's best actresses, Annabelle Gish, of Hollywood acting royalty. Eloquently written by, truly one of America's best writers, James Rufus Agee (1909-1955) who died fairly young but had much greater potential. Having only slight recognition in life, he was awarded a Pulitzer prize in 1958 for this posthumously completed piece. The movie deals mostly with young Rufus and his family growing up in Knoxville, TN. The period setting was true to the early 1900's. The cinematography was excellent. This motion picture is not an action thriller, so, if you're expecting that of course you would be disappointed. If you seek a dramatization that has an intimate feel and an good translation of life you will enjoy this film. Although some parts may not be suitable for very young children, this is a rare movie that you can watch with most all family members and not have to feel uncomfortable with certain scenes.
