I have fallen and I can't get up

Can you make a Indiana Jones movie with a 80 year old Harrison Ford? - Sure. If you're Disney, you can make anything you want. But can you make a good Indiana Jones movie? No, not really. The technology to pull of the de-aging effects is still not here. And what was it that made the first 3 films so special? A lot had to do with the practical effects, real filming locations and a witty dialogue. Dial of Destiny felt fake from the beginning. A digitally de-aged Harrison Ford running on a CGI-train took me right out of the movie. There where some attempts of humor, but it may have worked better with different direction.

What's next for Disney? A new Home Alone movie with a 50 year old Macaulay Culkin? Please take some risks and come up with fresh ideas.

Where is Pancakes House?

One of my favorite movies by the Coen brothers. The writing and directing is absolutely amazing. Love this style of black comedy - very unique, but it never takes you out of the movie. Cinematography is done by the legendary Roger Deakins. Casting is also spot on. Watch this movie for acting alone and you won't be disappointed. Frances McDormand, William H. Macy and Steve Buscemi all give memorable performances. But even the smaller characters are brilliantly acted. Peter Stormare and John Carroll Lynch are the best examples.

Just sit back and let the story suck you in to the wonderful world of crime, drama and laughter - Enjoy!

Definitely a must-see!
5 February 2023
One of the best movies about racism in America. It has a good balance of drama, suspense and humor. The artistic liberties taken by Spike Lee to include modern footage and events make this film stand out even more and delivers a real punch when the final credits roll. A powerful message delivered in a tasteful way.

Cinematography, music and acting are all excellent. The casting is spot on and the dialog feels natural. John David Washington, Adam Driver, Laura Harrier and Topher Grace shine in their roles. Even the minor characters are well cast with Jasper Pääkkönen performance being the most impressive.

BlacKkKlansman is definitely a must-see!

Hitman (I) (2007)

Probably better than you think
4 February 2023
While playing tribute to the source material Hitman ultimately does it's own thing and it does it well. The action scenes are very stylized and memorable. Some influences are taken from Luc Besson, which is understandable and enhances the experience. Acting is good aswell. Although Olyphant only took the role of 47 to pay the bills, his performance does not reflect it. He plays the part well and gives the character probably more depth than the original choice Vin Diesel would have done. Supporting cast is strong aswell. Best being Dougray Scott, Robert Knepper and Henry Ian Cusick. This was also Olga Kurylenko's breakout role who became Bond girl soon after.

Stands the test of time
4 February 2023
It's hard to believe that Underworld turns 20 years old while writing this review. Why this vampire flick still holds upp in my opinion is that they tried to use as much practical effects as possible when filming the action. A big part of it is also the cinematography, set design and general atmosphere of the film. Many scenes are filmed in a cothic looking Budapest and the Matrix inspired costumes also help to make this early 2000's movie really stands the test of time. The acting is not great, except for Michael Sheen and Bill Nighy. But the movie doesn't take itself too seriously and it never gets boring. A great looking action horror if you ask me.

Overrated

Surprisingly mediocre for a Orson Welles film. Camerawork is superb, but that's about it. If you where experiencing a thrilling film noir, I'm afraid 'Touch of Evil' is not for you.

Not your typical Hitchcock film...

Not your typical Hitchcock film. A bit too slow moving for my taste, but it has it's moments. The story picks up momentum in the second half, so you're rewarded for sticking with it.

Not as good as I thought
13 August 2022
Maybe a bit overrated, but one could definitely understand why it's considered a masterpiece. What stands out the most is cinematography and set design.

A story that goes on in circles
13 August 2022
My least favorite of Kurosawa's films. The story didn't pull me in and instead went on in circles. Soundtrack was also a disappointment - Reminded me too much of Maurice Ravels's Bolero. The only two highlights where acting by Toshiro Mifune and cinematography by Kazuo Miyagawa.

Lacks a distinct visual style
12 August 2022
A well made film with important story and good acting. Lacks a distinct visual style. More handheld footage would have helped to add a more documentary-style atmosphere which would have benefited the film.

Impressive cinematography
9 August 2022
Even though I had some pretty big issues with the moral of the story, I still liked the movie as a whole. The camerawork and cinematography were impressive, so it's easy to understand why it's considered a classic.

Surprisingly enjoyable!
8 August 2022
Why they keep on making Predator movies, I don't know. Because the original was perfect in every way. Still, 'Prey' is surprisingly enjoyable. Action and acting is very good. It's respectful to the lore, but feels fresh at the same time. Manly because the Predator in this movie is more aggressive than we ever seen before and it takes place 300 years ago. So it's not your typical Predator movie - and that is what makes it stand out.

Surprisingly watchable
7 August 2022
This Lundgren flick doesn't have a great script and the performances by the main cast aren't very good. But 'Silent Trigger' has an unique atmosphere and some decent action scenes. So it's surprisingly watchable.

You're better off watching 'The Lego Movie'
2 October 2021
I guess 'Free Guy' has a high rating manly because of Ryan Reynold's charm and because it's about the video game culture. But it really wasn't nothing new or fresh. So you're better off watching 'The Lego Movie' which is kind of similar in a way, but funnier and more heartwarming.

More topical than ever

Great inside look into the newspaper business of the 1950's, which is more relevant in today's media climate than ever before.

Humphrey Bogart gives an excellent performance here.

A must watch for any action fan. It has it all - Simple, yet clever story. Nail-bitingly good action scenes and Keanu Reeves :)

Has a unique style
14 July 2021
One of the best dramas from recent years in my opinion. It may be too slow moving for a lot of people, but I was hooked from the first scene. Everything feels so believable, because of a unique documentary style filmmaking and the use of non-actors.

Not great, but has heart
14 July 2021
I had mixed feelings when I left the cinema. On one hand I really liked the relationship stuff between Johansson and Pugh, but on the other hand I was really bored each time there where big action scenes. It would have benefited from less action made entirely practical (no CGI) to fit the grounded tone of the film.

Bloodshot (2020)

Predictable and unexciting
19 April 2020
I was kinda looking forward to this one, because I like my superhero movies a bit darker in tone and the trailer made it seem that way. That is unfortunately not what I got. I can't figure out why they couldn't turn this source material into a R-rated movie. One must really difference itself from Marvel and DC to to make it in this business. It can work, just look at 'Deadpool' and 'Logan'. Me personally would have used 'Brawl in Cell Block 99' as a source of inspiration - a movie with lot of black humor, violence and gore. In right hands, I believe this mix could have been a success.

'Bloodshot' is not offensively bad, but also does nothing interesting to keep my eyes focused on the screen.

Beautiful coming-of-age story
18 April 2020
Some directors really know how to create a distinct mood and Luca Guadagnino seems to know how to do that. He has made a movie that feels incredibly authentic and this is is largely due to the brilliant acting by the whole cast.

The King of Netflix movies
16 April 2020
My god, what a well made Netflix film - Enjoyed every second of it. Based loosely on the works of Shakespeare, 'The King' has both drama and nail-biting action. It stars Timothée Chalamet who really deserved a Oscar nomination for his performance, but the supporting cast where brilliant as-well.

Years ahead of its time
13 April 2020
Years ahead of its time when it comes to cinematography and storytelling. A bit too slow-moving for my taste, but great in so many other levels that it didn't bother me too much. The performance by Peter Lorre was really memorable - I must make sure to watch more movies with him.
